Ok time for some bragging
What are some good race's ya's have had lately?
I'll start off :)

The one that I think bought the demise of my old turbo, racing a Walkinshaw with a 355 stroker, meant to have 380 rwhp and do a low 12 once tuned, I raced it untuned with "only" around 300 rwhp. 2 people in the Walky, vs 5 moderate sized people in my car. From 80 to 200 dead even, they got about half a car length at the start (damn turbo lag) by the end of it I got about half a car length. Not bad....
Lancer GSR with EVO motor, 170 kw @ wheels. Just me in my car, two people in the GSR. 70 to 160 km/h, dead even.
From standing start till mid 3rd gear, Porsche 993 RS CS (3.8 litre, stripped out). Didnt appear he was interested, so didnt launch. He wheelspun a bit off the line, and I got bad lag, so he got a car length off the start, got this down to half a car length by the end of it. This was with the 16 inchers.
STi with Autronics running serious boost, exhaust and filter. 4 people in my car, 3 in his. 60 to 150 odd he got about a car length.....
VS GTS 215 kw. 2 people in mine, 4 in his. 4000 rpm 3rd to about 6000 rpm, I got 3 car lengths. Did this 3 times in a row. Pull up next to him at the lights "do we really need to do it again?" Him - "yep". So 6000 rpm launch and by 80 km/h or so had 5 car lengths. Too easy 8)
VU SS ute, exhaust, extractors, filter, auto. Him in his car, me with a full car of heavy guys. Rolling start 70 to say 150, dead even.
Not bad....
Hopefully with the new turbo we can claim some more scalps :P

Edit - all these were done on private roads or race tracks

Edit - all these were done on private roads or race tracks

LOL, of course thats what i was thinking ;)

Dont have that many stories, but i do have one which shoked (more pissed me off) me from last night.
Went past a standard looking 180sx and saw he pull out and follow me. At the lights, i didnt launch...he may have and was just ahead of me at the top of 1st. BANG into 2nd and then he took off  he was about a car length ahead at about 90 when we slowed......WHATS THE GO???
Im thinking maybe he launched and had a bit of lag as i did a grandma take off.
Also i had my gf in the car and he was alone.....not saying she weighs that much LOL

im still scratching my head this morning. Maybe i had my boost problem again as i didnt really seem to be going anywhere.

dazed and confused

Maybe he had a bit of wheelspin then it hooked up in 2nd?

My most recent enjoyable one has been a brand new M3.
Running from 80 up to 170 (when I backed off) I gained about 4 car lengths. That was all of 3rd and just into 4th. :D :D

His face went from arrogance to embarresment very quickly.

Maybe he had a bit of wheelspin then it hooked up in 2nd?

i dont think so, was a really strange race :? are those things that quick standard? or was my car having issues?

nice one evade, would love to be able to stick it to those rich pricks :P
i do like the new M3's tho

I think they are mid 14 or so second cars?

markmcrs
12th January 2003, 09:29 AM
It could have been running a SR 20 with garret T28(Roller bearing turbo-off 200sx) Their factory boost is something like 7-9 psi compared with 11-12 psi the Liberty's start with. We usually increase our boost by 3-4 psi whereas they can DOUBLE theirs. Add an aftermarket computer and bigger injectors and those things fly.

thanks Mark, that makes me feel better. But it did look stock to me :x

although i did have a nice run just then with a VX SS, was pretty even but i think i reckin i was about to pull away in 3rd....but we all know what speed we are doing by then so i was reluctent to push it ;)

VX SS the other day giving me the big rev's and shit. He went passed me and changed lanes in second and stuck to his ass like like a hemi. My girlfreid did'nt beleve that i could keep with one with an exhaust on him.

Very nice looking cordia the other day. There was three lanes that were taken up by me the cordia and grandma. I was going to give the big dump when a motor bike came up beside me and decided he wanted my lane. So instantly there goes the big dump, there goes the cordia but by 140, and rev limiter I was 2 car lenghts in front. He started with 5 car lengths. The bike took of like grandma until he relised he was in the WAY!!!.

Im sick of these v8 drivers taking off slowly as if there not interested and then nailing it - trying to catch us off boost!

markmcrs
13th January 2003, 10:36 AM
It's all part of the fun! I have a V8 commondore as well. It can keep up with my mate's evo 4 lancer from 60 up but off the line i've got no chance- the distance he gets in front in first gear is the difference at the end of the run.In my Liberty I almost feel guilty launching hard against RWD's. Some of the best runs i've had have been when I give them a chance off the line. I was pestering a 180sx(SR20) for a run one night but he wouldn't bite as he knew he would be playing catch up. So I putted off the line but kept the revs up. Then it was on! I only beat him by a car length but it was more satisfying.

I get at least 2-3 people who want to come out in my car when I go cruisin on a fri or sat night. I have a dog box and 3300lb clutch so I have to launch at no less than 6500rpm or else I bog down. They love the look on the faces of the people next to us when all 4 wheels break traction. My mates also like to spin shit when those same people ask WTF?! Their two favourites are; It's an auto with 5500rpm stall or We don't know , we just stole it! Silly but it makes the night more interesting!

[SPESHAL]

ooo ooo ooo, i just remembered about the fun time i had up the hill the other day.
Well im house sitting at my parents place for the week and they live up in the Dandenongs. For those of you who dont know the Dandenongs, there are some great roads, particulary the main road up to my place (Mt Dandenong Tourist rd)

Well any way i cant help but boot it up the hill, overtaking whoever gets in the way. So i come flying arond this corner and there is a HORN looking Griffen thingy....you know the ones out of Grand Turismo.
He see's scream up his butt and over takes the car infront and i follow. I pretty sure his car was faster cos of my lag, but when i hit boost i crawled up on him.
It was great fun watching the the handling of his car, almost no body roll, but not AWD :D
So i stuck on his ass all the way up the hill, still not sure if he was really pushing it, but it was fun nether the less.

So much more fun actually driving, not draggin.

Paul, its a PAR dog box. Tony rigoli put it together for me. I've had it 18mths. I wouldn't reccomend it though(Very long story!) I've replaced 1st & 2nd gears once already due to worn dog engagement-$500ea-partly my fault as well. It gets stuck, yes stuck, in 2nd gear if i'm not careful. Easy to rectify but a total pain in the ass. Although I've heard they have recently eliminated that problem.

I had a similar experience to you, jake, except it nearly turned ugly. I was driving a mate's RS and was heading towards the foothills in the eastern suburbs when I caught up to a VX Clubsport 255kw. He sensed a chalenge so sped up. I had no trouble keeping up with him so he kept pushing harder and harder. Coming around a sweeping right hander his back end let go and nearly swiped the guard rail. He managed to drive out of it but I decided to back off and about a km up the road he pulled into his house. So he got shown up on his own road!

I was sitting at the lights minding my own business, when this REX comes up next to me. Looked pretty nice, big 3" out the back sounded nice too. The lights go green, he lets it rip!, I think to myself, O.K why not. I come up next to him at the next intersection, and he's in there with his women (who keeps peering over with a arrogant smile on her face by the way) looking pretty happy with himself. I notice the lights are about to go green, his revs go up, I let him know I'm in this time. Whoosh where off, I get a car length on him , then two, then maybe 3....seee ya! Next intersection, looks like someone is too embaressed to come up next to me! Oh well, the rest off the drive home I reckon I was smiling just like his women was earlier...ha

Don't mess with the RS!

Beating a WRX has to be about the best  I'm a member of WRXSA and I displayed my car at last year's Clipsal 500 with the club. I really just wanted the free parking with esky storing facilities as I had tickets already. Anyway, one of the member's made fun of my car in good spirits but I vowed to put him in his place. Sure enough, who do I pull up next to one saturday night a couple of weeks later. Well I blew his doors off then slowed down to see what he had to say for himself. He comes out with 'I think my clutch is slipping, could you smell it?' To which I replied; "sorry, I was too far in front!' He soon found a side street to conveniently pull into soon after

Love beating the REX and whipeing that "I'm the king of the road smile" off there face. I think there are a lot of cars out there who think they've either got it over the RS because there to old or they can peg them back no worries. One of my mates had got a Skyline gts r33 and I get him every time(he just can't launch off the start like the RS). He's got about 165kw at the wheels too!. He comes back slightly but I'll still take the win thank you!

Lucky you guys never lined me up on the street ...my old bog standard version4 sti import would cut high 12 sec 1/4s ......I used to beat Vic (rs sti)...I have owned heaps of Rs ( I owned a modded one in 1994...13.0 at 102 mph then)...it was damn quick for a standard car......although I used to drive it 110%

Well I'm ashamed to admit it but I dusted off a collar and tie boy in an R32 GTS this am - with the 2 kids in the car! Not normally my thing, esp with younguns but there was no other traffic and he just plain deserved it  He found a side street soon after too!
Who was the WRXSA rexer you beat Mark? Good to see you teaching them some respect. It suprises me how few of them realise just how similar the RS is drivetrain wise and think you're just some poor relation.

Your kidding - right? They are hardly very fast, I raced one that was mildy worked (you know the normal stuff, exhaust, FMIC, boost) and I honestly thought he wasnt racing, thats how much I smashed it. Granted my car is a bit modified.
I also raced one with 400 odd hp, had him 1st, 2nd and 3rd, he only got by in 4th gear.
They are definetly not "very fast".

Stock or mild GTS-t R33's aren't that quick, but i've got a mate with a highly modified R33 GTS-t that will give any of you a hiding to remember! :)

Seriously though, its not so much the car but the driver. I used to own a pretty modified 180sx SR20DET manual, and used to dish out hiding to WRX's all the time, modded or not, and many of them on launch too, and thats not a word of a lie with plenty of people who had to see it to believe it for themselves. The truth of the matter was that I knew my own car, and had plenty of experience launching and driving it quickly, so that was my advantage. I could launch it with virtually no wheelspin, and just nail it as it we setup very well, in short it was a weapon on the street.

A car is only as good as its driver, regardless of what mods are done. Period.

slayer_1971
23rd January 2003, 05:38 AM
:) I agree with "PASHN8".....It all comes down to the driver and how familiar you are with the car....

The Liberty RS and Skyline R33 GTS are very similar in terms of 0-100, 0-400 so it all comes down to driver skill....

My previous ride was actually an R33 GTS and I found that yeah, they're quick, but not fast at all. And if you don't have good tires and a sound knowledge of how to launch your own car, you will get beaten, time and time again. I should know!! i had shitty tires and I'm crap at the whole launch deal. I used to get beaten by modified S14's, S15's all the time. But hey.. it was fun.

The WRX's used to just beat me off the line and after that it was just a matter of reeling them in. Once they're modified or in STi guise it was all over. My R33 didn't have too many horsepower mods, mainly driveline and handling mods. Great car to drive, good balance... but taking off is a bitch.

I've driven one more recently that has an RB26DETT conversion with two great big turbos, and the largest Titanium f**k off exhaust I've ever seen and this thing would kill most people on the street, but even with 275's on the back this thing has traction probems, so you really have to know how to drive it.

Hopefully I'll have some B4 kill stories once I get my ride... :)

Nick, it was the one and only "SIR WRX".
From what i've just read in the recent post, a few points have stuck out;
* Skyline drivers need to be given a head start to avoid total embarrasment.
* Talent can make up for lack of kw's at the wheels.
* A select few owners of inferior cars(read 'nissan') can make there cars quicker than yours by forking out wads of cash on the things.
This last point reminds me of the time I NERALY got beaten by a CHARADE! I took pity on him and didn't launch then all of a sudden he was off. I barely caught up to him by third gear! Luckily I got a second chance at him wre I gave it the full monty. Victory was mine but it came as more of a relief than satisfaction. I discovered soon after he was running 21psi with FMIC and fully rebuilt worked motor. I can just imagine how many V8 boys he has humiliated

rsnick

21psi!!!
I knew a guy who had a poo brown MkII Cortina, complete with stock wheels, hubcaps and everything but with a turbo'd Alfa twin cam. Best sleeper I've ever seen. It looked so crappy you just wouldn't even bother - until you'd been wasted by it. His father was a complete nutter and built some insane cars. I saw him at Fueltronics one day in a bog stock beige Volvo 244 with a Mazda turbo V6 in it or something!

Well I have entered the 4,6 & lawn mower nationals which are on tomorrow so I may have a few tales to tell. I'm hoping to get as close to 13.0 as possible. It's bracket racing so talent and consistency will be the key to winning. The hardest part will be cutting a good light. I haven't had my car at the drags before so it will be a steep learning curve.

Well I didnt KILL anything as such (apart from my coil packs I think :x ), but on the cruise I went on Friday night I had some fun (private roads of course). I had me + passenger in my car
#1 - 13.1 @ 107 mph Silvia. 2nd gear pretty close, 3rd gear managed I to pull away a bit, wasnt a very good run though.
#2 - 12.4 second RX4. 2nd gear pretty even, 3rd gear RX4 pulled about a half to a full car length.
#3 - 12.8 WRX wagon with Holinger dog box, VF22, FMIC, Motec (has more in it than the 12.8 - was bogging down). 2nd, 3rd, 4th (he had driver + 2 passengers). Was even through 2nd and 3rd, 4th he got a half to a car length on me,
#4 - 12.7 second RWD R31 Skyline. He had two passengers, it was just me at this stage. 3rd gear got a half a car length, by top of 4th I had a car length and a half maybe.

Not a bad effort 8)

had another interesting run not too long ago. rocked up behind a current shape SSS. looked stocked, except for big wheels and lowering. he took off infront of me and chirped 2nd. didn't think anything of it and pulled up next to him at the next set of lights. i saw he wanted to run so i thought, what the hell...

we both took off and at the top of first, we were dead even.
top of second and i manage to pull a car length.
not knowing what was going on i bang it into third and then pulled another 2-3 car lengths.
was pretty pissed off that i didn't beat him by more and went home.

anyway, found out the next day, he's got an SR20T and a mother of a FMIC behind the stock bar!
