Now because RACV wont insure me with the 17s, i am going to go back to Just Cars. I called them up the other day and told them that id like to continue my policy. The lady said ok, but you are going to have to take your car into a AAMI check centre.
I was like WTF? she said because u let your policy laps they AAMI are going to have to go over your car and check thats nothing is damaged and your mods are ok. :x
So.....now im going to have to take off my wheels (tyres dont meet load rating), change my induction back to standard and remove the BOV. Not to sure if there is anything else.

But im just wondering if anyone else has experianced anything like this before? and will they car about the air filter and BOV?

i HATE insurance companies with a passion now :x

You have to get yours inspected? WTF? I started my policy with them and they've never even seen the car before! I wouldn't worry about taking off the wheels though dude, they aren't going to check tyre load ratings, they'll just look at stuff like wheels not scrubbing/ rubbing etc. What have you done to the induction? If it's only a panel filter still with some piping i wouldn't worry about it, pod may be some trouble though.
BOV you could paint black and they'd never know the difference.

i've already posted this in the message titled WHEELS.

CGU are good to deal with, i pay about 1400 on rating 2, i'm over 25 but i've got a 22 year old named driver on the policy. I made a claim last year and all i did was fill in the paper work and pick up the car when it was ready. I didn't hear a word from CGU.

CGU allow 3 mods but no lowering.

Try them direct, if the price is high i can give you the number of my insurance broker.

Vic.

Whats the deal with my JCI policy. Last year as a 24 year old rating 2 I insured the RS for $1049 and they never questioned my mods.

However when I had my Corolla they insisted on an inspection. The guys basically walked around the car about 2 metres away from it and asked me to leave it running. He ticked some boxes on a checklist, shook my hand and said "thanks mate, that'll be fine". He gave me a receipt and I went.

They also just like to check for dodgy repairs or obvious damage that you might want to lodge a dodgy claim on later on.

They generally ask to see it if the mods you list are many, or if something is unusual (my corolla had wheels 4" bigger than standard, a bit unusual!).

They can just call anyone in. It is just like taxes, keeping an eye on things.

Just had the inspection done and boy was i surprised 8)

Got there told the lady that my car had to be inspected for damage and mods. She prints off a little bit of paper as a guide and has a look at the car. Walks around it rubbing at a little mark i have on the rear bumper "how long has that been there?" me: "since i got it".
Then she looks at it, has it been lowered me: "its got standard springs in it" which is true, the she asks about the body kit and i tell her its standard.
She say ok looks good to me.
We go back inside and she calls Just Cars and give the all clear and now i have insurance again at $1865.

plus $450 standard excess
$400 under age of 22 excess
$400 excess if the wheels are damaged or stolen (wheels are insured for $2k so that mean i would get about $650 if my wheels are stolen) :x
/me goes and buys some lock nuts

ahhh well what can you do about it.....

oh yeah i forgot to mention that i got pulled over by the cops on the way there for no apparent reason :?:

Vic, does CGU do pay by the month? I know Just Cars don't :(

I'm paying $2020 full comp on my RS, 23yo, rating 2, 1 6 month licence suspension. I'm might have to make a few calls...

They don't do pay by month, it would be nice because my insurance and reg come at the same time.

I'm with George.

Almost makes you want to go an put that back bumper of mine with cracked paint into a wall and get it all fixed on them - just to get my money's worth.

Seems excessive for the amount of times you might need it in a lifetime. :x

Hey Budge.. whats the deal with Insurance brokers in general??, they do all the work and find u the best deal? r they expensive?..

DRMAT

If you want the cheapest car insurance you have to find someone who only does car insurance cos that way they don't have to cover their other sections like property etc. That is why car insurance has gone up since Sep 11 cos all the insurance companies use each other to cover payouts and as they all got screwed with property damage and such the cost gets passed on somewhere.

Just Car insurance cover my car for $2480. Seems expensive but the car is insured for $26000 (96 Legacy Wagon) . I'm 22 with rating 2 no accidents and no loss of licence(also touching wood) but a few speeding fines. Racv quoted upwards of $4000 , told them to go jump and the rest weren't much better. Insurance companies don't like under 25's in twin turbos much :x
