Do any of you guys know who to go though to get modified RSs.
I have spoken to Just Car and they cover everthing but they are $1860
Young and Cool are $1100 but they don't cover agreed value and reckon the Red book value on a '92 RS is $12,300. I'm 26, 60% NCB no claims but had a licence susp last year. DOW!

Just Cars and maybe Shannons would be your best bet, unless the amount that the mods have cost you equal a third of the lower market value of your car. Then u can try RACV ( i hate the pricks) just watch the width of your wheels.
$1865 is what i pay, with not as many mods as you but i am only 21 :(

hope that helped a little bit.

and oh yeah, if Shannons ask you if you are part of a club, say yes ;)

Stay away from RACV if you can. They will charge the earth to begin with, and will whinge and complain about everything you do to the car.

They will also do anything to weasel out of a claim, especially theft (I know coz my mum used to work there) as my girlfriend found out a couple of years ago. She had a 1999 323 and it was stolen and never recovered. They told her that they had to investigate the theft coz it was 'suspicious'. Even though they never elaborated on why, they decided no to honour the claim on these grounds - 'suspicious'.

She had to fight them through court and of a $22,000 agreed value on the car, all she got back was $17,000 and had to pay her own legal fees out of that. It took 17 months in total!

I'm with JCI and have been happy with them so far, and some mates have had claims and reckon they are pretty efficient (they are part of AAMI).

Lately I've been going thru insurance companies getting quotes, at the moment I'm with CGU paying $483.60 a year with $1150 excess because I am driving an Liberty "Rallye" with body kit, spoiler, mags, tinted windows and foglights, I am strongly against the amount of excess (I would feel so damn sorry if my girlfriend has an accident and has to pay $750 on top of $1150!!!!, shes only 21! that is so wrong for 10 year old car!).

So got quotes from RACV, AAMI, RACV will cost me $638 a year with $450 excess.... AAMI will be $518 with $450 excess. I've argued with CGU but they said THAT I modified the car after factory, but its factory fitted body kit & foggies & spoiler from Subaru, its an Limited Edition Liberty its a real mistake for CGU!!!!, so now I am switching to AAMI for $518 + $450 excess if i have an accident.

I'm 25, Rating 1, car is garaged.

Insurance is a HAVE!!, its only good for prangs and smashes. If the car gets stolen and cleaned out, i'm out of pocket $2000 no matter what gets stolen.

Waste of time!!!

Thats why paranoia runs wild in my head.!

alpine raven and ruby scooby:

guys... go with AAMI :)

I was with them with my car wen it waas stocko.... about $600 for 30yr old.... no claims, no accidents, no suspensions. I forget what the standard excess is.... bout $450 i think.

I'm still with them after the conversion... still $600.... same excess...effectively the same car.

Only reason I went ahead with the conversion is coz they changed their guidelines last year.

As long as you are over 25 (both you guys), you can make as many modifications to your car as you like..... as long as they are LEGAL and you NOTIFY them that youve done them.

I told them all that has been changed on my car... they logged it on my policy, sent me the revised policy certificate... and all is sweet.

Give them a try..... talk to them about their changed guidelines.... if a call-centre operator tells you that's not true, ask to speak to a supervisor. Insist they check and you will find someone who can verify things.

Good luck..... paying over a grand for an over 25 is rude, and ridiculous and totally unnecessary.

Cheers

Thanks Dave,
An Subaru fella who cleans and details them told me go with AAMI as its worth going to, he also told me a lot of Subaru people go with them as well..

Well, I'm going ahead with them tomorrow.

the only downside i came across with them was that its not agreed value... only market value :(

i need to get onto them, wen i get time, and find out what my options are for getting an agreed value outta them.... maybe increase my premium a bit, if need be, to compensate for the mods

i tried Shannons and Just Cars.... but they wouldnt touch me due to more involved reasons. at one point, until i found out about AAMI's changes, i decided not to modify, as i couldnt get insurance to cover it.

note tho..... its only a "guideline" change... its not a set-in-stone (or paper) policy change...... its merely a guideline for call-centre staff to reference when deciding to offer insurance coverage or not - depending on your age.

sorry, you more youthful of us enthusiasts...... you under 25's are still limited to certain mods.... i think AAMI does it on a points system.

I asked.... there is no paperwork they can send/fax/email detailing these guidelines, coz i wanted a copy of it on paper... but the supervisor said there was nothing official they could provide me with... but assured that it would all be cool. I have taken the chance, and i guess its up to you guys if you do the same.

IF any of you enquires, and is lucky enough to convince someone to give you an actual copy of these new guidelines, then that would be awesome... .and posting it up here would help out a LOT of members :)

Good Luck
Cheers

i have just been recently looking, i'm with GIO, and they have been very good, but as that is about to be transfered to RACT, that will be very bad, i went to see them, and apart from being stupid expensive, as soon as i mention modifications... NO, NO! they say.so i don't know how that'll work, maybe they will ahve to insure it as its being trasferred from GIO.
I went to AAMI, and they seemed really good, no problems for turbo car with limited mod if over 25, and free mod if over 30, yay! and dirt cheap too... all comes crashing down as soon as i want my GF on the piolicy so she can drive it. absolutely no way can i get her on the policy for any money as shes under 25... grrrrr. so i have to start loioking about as RACT are useless as...

I can back up spinifex, with our two drivers over 30 AAMI are definetly the best price and I checked them all when I picked up my 2nd Suby in December. The allowance of modifactions is also a welcome change, surely if we modify our cars we look after them more and have less accidents and thefts because of our extra care.

Its about time the rest of the insurance companies followed suit.

Insurance underwriters are the best for price but you cannot have a fine etc in the last 5 years, the guy i bought my RS from got his insurance for around $800

Insurance Companies are bastard to deal with.. they're always hard to get on with, they want to get away with money and rip you off...

But you have to fight them then you win!! Last January I wrote off my car (not a Sube!) and they were saying I was at fault, but I was clearly not at fault and they wouldn't accept my photos which was clearly shown on the accident scene. Until I asked them to pass me to the manager or supervisor so they put me thru, he took over my case and asked me to send a CD ROM to him in Melbourne and had a look at the photos and it was simply was his fault, he could see it clearly of what happened to the accident.. Just that they want me to loose and pay for his damages because I had 3rd party insurance and other party had full insurance and I wanted $2300 for my car to pay me out. That is how they make money from ripping other people off. Like $900 excess just for $300 damage, the rest goes to the insurance company!! no bull really!

HuNgRy Bastards eh!

Hi guys, i got a quote from just cars about a month ago we had a agreed value of 13000 with all the mods done and it was only gonna cost me 1300 and 700 excess. I thought it was pretty good considering i have lost my licence 4 3 months im only 18 and never had insurance before. i didnt get it cause i had to find that in one lump sum which sucks but i will. Also anyone out there that has done a conversion to a rs turbo engine it isw nearly half. i got a quote for 3000 if it was a aus delivered rs but because mine is a gx conversion they say it is just a gx modified???? figure cause i cant, i told them everything is the same in mine as a rs turbo, i think they are a little tapped in the head

thanks Shaun

insurance can also depend on the person you talk to on the phone....
my sis works at aami and she is constantly telling me of when people call up they speak to people who shouldnt really have jobs there and they put through ridiculous prices on insurance....
she recommends call up one day get a quote.....call up another time on the same day and speak to someone different....and DO NOT quote ur quote number and get a new quote and see if they match....ull be suprised
