I have been looking in the trader this week as I want to but another legacy (with less k's mines done 230 000).

Now I know the differance between GT's and RS's but I have also seen RS type R and sti RS RA legacys advertised.

I hear that type R's have stronger gearboxes and sti RS RA's are lighter but thats all I really know about them.

Any one else know anything about these cars (power, weight etc) as there is a nice RS type R for $5000 that I want (as soon as I sell my RS)

The ra was lightened.. had more power.. had stronger box.. had different suspension and such... was basically like the equivalent of an sti nowadays... :)

I had some info on them a while ago.. however will look for the site for you.

Yeh Jake, they arent common! Basically as far as i know they Type RA Legacy RS was similar to the STi WRX now, faster, better gearboxes, lightened, etc al.

Type R was a milder version of RS, but not as hard as Type RA.

Get that up ya.

The ECU's from Type RA goes straight in!!! How good is that, good luck trying to find 1 though. Fucking rare.

According to the info I have, it had the same motor as the RS, no quick ratio steering like the RA and a different transmission then either one.

Rare no way this week there are two sti RS RA's (ones $6000 and ones $7500) in the buy sell and one RS type R (for $5000) as well as loads of RS's if ya want a look go to

http://www.buy-sell-exchange.co.nz

go to search (canterbury region) then search for -> subaru RS

but thats NZ for you we have little to no car manufacturing market to protect so get heaps of imports. Are RS's rare over in Aussie ?

I want to find out more about this RS type R I might go see the guy who owns it, but the RS RA sounds mint I might have to save some money for one.

NO FAIR!!!

we rarely rarely see any of that shite in oz. there's an abundance of libs/legs in NZ. i think all us Oz boys are gonna have to organise a couple of containers full of parts and the like!!!

Well what are you waiting for Adam!!!

As for the RS-R and RS-RA. Both have no rear spoilers.

RS-R - The engine & transmissions are the same as RS. Different supension. Basically all I think it was, was just a cheaper version of the normal RS that you could convert into a rally car.

RS-RA - based on RS-R but with a hand finished motor same as 100000km speed record car. Variable quick power steering, and different suspension parts, similar to RS-R. There were four models A, B, C & D. The close ratio boxes and 16 bit ECUs were only in the later models.

The RS RA sounds the ticket with "forged pistion" I reckon it could run heaps of boost

I don't know about the close ratio gear box my car is a daily driver and it might use way more gas but it would probably be worth it.

I is strange though the jap website contradicts the gearbox link saying that thr RS and the RS type R have the same gearbox :P all very interesting
