just joined the other night and been lurking about, thought id introduce myself. names michael but everyone calls me cray. live in perth and looking to get an rs as my next car. not much around, but ill be taking a trip back home to melb in a cpl of weeks and my olds still live there. so might try and get the old man to track something down for me and freight it over.

first/curent car is a 1980 toyo corona granny mobile...pimp style red velour interior..5speed...nice n neat. learnt how to drive in it and had it for about 5 yrs now while i was a poor student. but i got a job now so its time for an upgrade. dunno much about the mechanics of it all..so looking for somethign neat that will give me no trouble. dont have a huge budget either, so its gonna be hard.

speshal: do u live around the leeming area? if so i think your car was my inspiration to get an rs. yours was the first one i saw, or should i say heard, pullin into the carpark at work. which was early last yr and just recently i thought i saw/heard a loud lib with some bigass gold wheels flash past down farrington rd. didnt get a good look, but it kinda fits ur description. awesome car that.

anyways sorry for the bigass post...but thats me...ill go back into lurk mode now and keep learning from you guys.

Hello and welcome cray.. its probably a good idea buying a RS from here in Melbourne cause from what Speshal tells me they r still going for top dollar in Perth..

There arent that many down here either, a couple of guys in these forums r looking for'em, and r finding it hard locating a clean example..

Good luck, and if u have any questions just ask away :D

Hey Cray,

Cant say ive been lurking for too long as ive only just joined (as in about 30 mins ago). I live in Kalgoorlie and a mate told me about this forum only this morning. He also drives an RS but lives in Perth. I come from a similar background having also owned a 1979 corona during my uni days. I have since bought a 1978 Celica and my current car is a 92 RS. I have had it for 12 months and i must say that it is bulletproof. Bought it privately for 13k with 126000kms on the clock. It was absolutely stock until the other day when i re-did the air intake. A dream to drive and they take very well to any sort of mods (just check out the cars in this forum!) Get one now!

I am sure you blew me off the road going along Leech H'way@ stock Rd approx 4wks ago. Can I ask how many KWs @ the wheels you have. Currently looking at my cooling system, now running Redline Water wetter but do you know if anyone modifies the intercooler radiator in Perth, alternatively is making the water pump run at its high speed all of the time a reliable alternative. My synchros are also starting to act up, everyone I have spoken too says the Redline oil is the dogs b**locks, is it worth a try??? Also fancy a set of KONI adjustables I presume they are pretty good.

Cray,
I also live in the Melville area, cannot recommend an RS high enough, for what you pay(if you can get one), they are excellent value for money. I sometimes think about changing mine for a R33 GTSt but whilst they look nice I would always fancy my chances in my RS. I have dragged WRXs ,STis, heaps of HSVs etc and have never been embarrased.

RS Turbos are great.

I dont remember wasting another RS? I would never do that to our own kind :) Was it me - SPESHAL on the plates? Give me a bit more info and I might remember, that would of been JUST before the old turbo blew. Blew you off the road, as in raced you and beat ya? Hrmm.
I'd say 170 kW @ wheels now, going from past dyno results and modifications since....
Not sure about modifying the water to air bit, try Maximum Motorsport for that one, they are advocates of the water to air system.
As for redline, yes its the ducks nuts, worth a try :D

Charcoal RS,

Yes i thought it may have been easy to guess who it was. The fact that i dropped the name Kalgoorlie in there must have been a dead give away due to the fact that now that you have gone there are only 2 RS's in town (im pretty sure anyway). Catch you when im in Perth next, shouldnt be too far away...

thanks for the friendly welcome guys. the hunt for the rs continues, no joy yet. gonna be in melb from feb9-14 and hope to checkout a few cars. doubt ill have much luck as anything decent will be snapped up by the other melb guys who r looking.

charcoal rs: is ur charcoal rs a wagon? i seen one turning onto progress drive in bibra lake this arvo. din get a good look at it but i think it was lowered with some kinda half decent rims.

also a marone one through the parking lot today. i just keep seeing em and makes me want one even more. my ears have become attuned to the sound of the flat four. think im gonna give myself whiplash the amount of times my head swings around when i hear that sound. awesome...just awesome.

Hi Cray,
Sorry mine is a sedan, looks completely std apart from the exhaust. My baby is in for a Redline gear oil change, does anyone have any comments on this stuff, also getting my intercooler pump to run at its highest setting all the time, does this work??

the intercooler pump switches itself onto high speed when the throttle opening exceeds 80%. There is no need to have it in high mode when not on boost - it will simply shorten the lifespan of the pump/bearings.
