Hey people!
I need some advice. I'm about to purchase a dual APEXi N1 exhaust system for the mufflers. I will be looking to fit them to my B4 once I have possession of it.
What does everyone think about how the Dual N1 setup would look on the back of an MY01 Legacy?
My current plan is to go with a single pipe straight from the turbo to the cat 3" and then use twin 2" pipes from the cat to a resonator (1 resonator for each pipe) and then into the 2.5" N1 muffler.
Does this sound like a good plan? Is there anything else I should think about?
(I know the 2nd part of the question should be in Technical, move it if you want)
Thanks in advance

squall why don't you run twin pipes all the way. One from each turbo? I don't much about this, if it will work or not, but it seems the obvious way.
I saw the underneath of one today at technik tuning and the setup up is well weird. One turbo has a cat straight after it yet the other doesn't, then there is another cat further down after the 2 dumppipes merge into 1. I have heard/been told that you need a cat straight after the turbo for emmission's reasons, so it doesn't make much sense.
my 2 cents

Hey Squall,
How are you going to go with a single pipe from the turbo when there are two turbos? Best bet i think is to get large collector pipes from the turbo (or nice dump pipes if you can find someone to make them!) into 3" back to where the pipes join into one before the cat. So you have already pissed off the first cat right after one of the turbos. Have your nice 3" high flow cat then why not have a single pipe that splits ito two for the mufflers further back? I don't know that you will need the resonators as well as the mufflers, but i don't know how loud those mufflers are, i don't run a resonator on mine. The only prob you are going to have is space to fit a twin system and twin mufflers.
A twin system all the way from both turbos won't work i think cos they have that crossover pipe in front of the engine that runs stuff as well and that is where the oxy sensor is also. I doubt you could fit a whole twin system underneath anyway. PLus remember you are going to have ot have your second pipe come out somehwhere and you aren't going ot have a cutout for it so routing will have to be careful so as not to damage bodywork etc.

Thanks guys!
Someone else mentioned the two pipes for two turbos thing to me the other day. i imagined that because the twin turbo setup was sequential rather than simultaneous that it only had one exit area. Obviously that's incorrect.
I do know a place that will do a custom exhaust so getting a full system that works with two pipes to the cat and then a single pipe to the mufflers shouldn't be a problem.
I have been advised that these particular mufflers are pretty bloody loud, so I will more than likely require a resonator to keep the noise down. I don't want to be EPA/Cop bait this time around.

read the bottom post, or the long one from me.

I'm still not sure a full twin system will work man, have a look att he layout of the pipes. I don't think they join up the two sides with a crossover pipe just for the fun of it!
I'd be doing a lot of research into it before i got it done. HITech Mufflers in sydney have a bolt on system for the B4, give them a call cos they research their systems well before selling them, they may have tried this already. Sounds like a lot of trouble for no gain if you ask me but it will be different i'll give you that much :D It will cost you more as well you realise... using twice as much pipe, twice as many bends to do, twice as many mufflers etc.

the best thing you could do is stick with the stock down pipe on the primary turbo, then have 2 mufflers behind that, but have 2.5 ince downpipe on the second turbo and join that behind the 2 mufflers.
also externally vent the waste gate

Thanks man! I went and read your other post.... I'm thinking I might ditch the twin setup idea... it's starting to sound like the Legacy really isn't the kind of car that it will work well on...
Might just have to go find myslef a Fujitsobo Legalis R muffler and get the rest of the system custom built...
Pity HiTech are based in Sydney.... I don't really like the idea of having to drive all the way to Sydney to get an exhaust system fitted.

Give HiTech a call anyway, they shoulod be happy to advise you i would think, then again they may be total assholes as well :?
No probs with advice etc dude, i just don't want to see you rush into something that may not work out!!

you deffinately can't run two full systems. as was said, do some research, but you'll most likely be advised to run both turbos into one 3inch pipe, through a single cat, then through a single resonator and split just B4 the mufflers. my advise is to run a ress cause it's primary design is to lower in car noise, rather then change the exhaust note

I thought that a resonator also reduces the overall oise of the exhaust system? Am I wrong in thinking this?
I want to make sure VicRoads and the EPA can't f**k me over this time. I don't really want the system to exceed the 90db limit.

Keeping it under 90 is bit hard with any decent size full length exhaust on a suby.

This is what pisses me off... basically every other country in the western world has a 9db limit. 96db isn't really that loud and it certainly allows for a good range of exhausts... most of the Jap Spec systems are designed for around 96db.
** sigh **
This state blows.

You should try to make a group n wrx stay under the legal limit! We got pinged up at Rally Queensland in 2001 at 134db. The only way we could get the damn thing to shut up was to put steel wool in the system. No muffler doesn't help much but it sounds damn horn, especially on anti lag.
And all these problems were with our 'quiet' exhust

You can hear it coming for miles :D
But the sound isn't its best feature. Its excelleration is bloody unbelivable, on dirt too.

Squall my system is well under 90db but still has a great note and makes the noise when you want it without the drone etc when you are cruising!

My zorst tops out 94 db, it aint too loud either, but has a filthy sounding burble when u stomp on the loud pedal, i think its a good balance between all out ponies and quietness.
