Can anyone help me regarding converting VHS footage to MPEG(?) to be viewed on the net. I have ZERO idea about this so an 'idiots guige to.....' would be appreciated.
Thanks, Mark.

depends what kinda hardware and software u got. some kind of video input for a start. many new 3d cards have what they call "VIVO" video-in video-out. many tv tuner cards also have video-in..otherwise u'd need a dedicated video capture card. if u've got none of these then ur stuffed. get back to us with details of what u've got...if anything...and we can take it from there.

Ummm.... I'll amend that to 'Complete & utter idiots guide to....'
So I need a Video card? Don't think I have one. If I had then I would have to play the video on a VCR which would be connected to my computer via video out of VCR to video in on back of computer box?
Is that the idea, Cray, or anyone else?
Mark.

yeah thats the idea....video out on the vcr connected to video in on the pc. hit play on the vcr and then some kind of capturing software on the pc to record/encode it.

u have a video card[graphics card]...thats what hooked up to ur monitor to make all the purty pictures. but whther it has a video in option remains to be seen. if u have purchased it in the last yr or so..chances r high. but if ur plugging away on some old banger then i very much doubt it.

if u got any documentation from when u bought the pc which might list the type of video/graphics card u have. we should be able to figure it out.

but even after we get that far...it only gets harder...maybe u shold just send copies of the vhs tapes to someone who knows how to do it. if ur keen to learn thats good too, but a little tricky to teach u everything via a forum. its ur call mate.

Something like this would work well. It has all the software and hardware with it.
