I had mine at 16.5yrs.... i got it right before we moved over here from South Aust. If you get it you are posed with a problem though as if you convert it to Victorian then you won't be on P's anymore... you are only allowed 3 months before you have to convert it over so if you get pulled over and the cop remembers you you might get in trouble but otherwise shoudln't be a problem. As we still had a house in Adelaide i still had a legitimate mail address there so i just said i was on holidays. But if you want to get insurance here you might get stuck a bit with an interstate address?

acutally my best mate's little brother just did it a week ago. also have about 4 other friends that have done it.

like mat said, as long as you're not getting pulled up by same cop you can get away with it.

I got mine in NSW when i was 17.
its a fair fuk around to do, and tbh it wasnt really worth it, coz i ended up driving to all the parties that i went to and couldnt get drunk
we have a holiday house in sydney which is where i was registered to.
you have to get you r L's and P's at the same RTA office, or close to it.
ie: you cant do your L's in Sydney and then go for your P's in Albury (i tried this, but it didnt work)
Insurance wasnt really a problem, because i was driving a company car which was registered and insured in NSW.
but you'll find you have alot of issues. and its not really worth it.

Laws have changed recently in SA and we have to stay with the L plate for at least 6 months (even you've passed the driving test) regardless the age (16+ of coz) . P plate period = 2 years and 19+yo only if you're free of demerit points in that period. If you've got 1 or more points then another 2 years or 20yo whichever is longer.......

I'm agree with the P plate period but the L plate 6 month period is totally pointless......

That's not recent.... that was around when i got my P's!! Thus why i got them when i was 16.5yrs cos it was the earliest i could get them... and that was almost exactly 10 years ago now.
But yes 6 months on L's is bullshit.

Yeh the "16.5yo+ to get a P" law has been there for ages (I believe, as at the time I came to Australia it's already there) but the rest are just being introduced last December......
