thanks

Select your turbo based on your fuel system. No point sticking a turbo on that can flow heaps of air when you can't supply the fuel to go with it. Both the VF34 and TD05 are capable of more flow than the factory injector on an RS. A VF24/28/29/35 will provide better bottom end power, and similar top end power with stock injectors. That is not to say the larger turbo will not work well.... they will provide as much power as the smaller turbos.. probably a little more at the same fuel flow, but they compromise the lag and throttle response.

Of course... if you have big injectors... none of this applies!!

Adrian, if a TD05H outflows RS factory injectors (380's) wouldnt that mean it would outflow early wrx standard injectors? (presuming they r the same inj.)

or do you mean once boosted above 15 or so psi the injectors would max out?

would the RS fuel system keep up until 15-16 psi with a TD05H?

You can run a TD05 with the stock injectors at 16psi as long as you have a good tune.

It is at this point when the injectors are maxed out.

V1/2 WRX inj are the same as the RS.

THe TD05 will do 200kW ATW at higher boost on a 2.0L.... the stock injectors are good for about 150kW ATW. A stock early WRX is about 115kW ATW, so obviously not using what the turbo can do.

The early WRXs have identical fuel system to RS.

My point was that with a TD05 you can only run it to about 150kW ATW. and it will not make 16psi until about 3500rpm. With a VF28 you could also run to 150kW ATW, and have 16psi before 3000rpm. The car would have noticable better throttle response and low down power, and still the same top end.

I recommend you size a turbo to utilise its full flow capability, and that way you maximise bottom end. No point sticking a 400hp turbo on when you are aiming for 300hp.

thgt as much.. cheers for confirming that guys..

i for one would use the $$ saved on the TD05H (over the VF series) and upgrade fuel system

if only i had the ching$ ching$

Unfortunately the fuel system upgrade is much more expensive. The only way to do it properly is:

* Replacement injectors ($500-1000)
* Fuel Pump ($200)
* Full replacement programmable ECU ($1500)
* Installation/tuning ($500)

I have been involved with alot of these cars over time, and I strongly recommend you aim for the limits of the fuels system unless you are willing to kick in alot more money. Law of dimishing returns..... You can get to 150kW ATW for around $2k starting from a stock car. It takes alot more than double that to get to 180kW ATW safely and reliably.

Hey
Thank for all you replys and help. Well what im doing is getting all the stuff I need first and then getting it all fitted.
Im getting a front mount,twisting the intake manifold around and then upgrading all the injectors for the bigger turbo....etc....

Thanks

I have found with the TD 05H that you can run 18psi reasonably safely provided you have an aftermarket fuel pump.
I have had my car on a dyno and running 19psi with stock ECU and injectors and bosch fuel pump the air/fuel ratios were fine right up to redline.
Infact with stock ECU the car was very rich up top - around 10:1.
There is an RS in Adelaide with a link ECU, TD 05H, upgraded fuel pump and stock 380cc injectors that has been running 18psi all day every day for nearly 3 years and never had a problem. It has run a 13.2 at the drags as well.

mark.

I speak loosely in terms of boost.... 16psi on one engine may be less air flow than on another. Injectors are rated on air flow... not boost.

16psi on a stocker will be significantly less air flow than 16psi with the same turbo on a car with good exhaust, front mount intercooler, and free flowing intake.

18-19psi is probably fine with a top mount running 60-70C intake temps.

What do you think about the VF37???
I could get this one for $1000 NZ....What do you guys recon???a Good deal???Here is the iffo:-

This Turbo needs no introduction as to its benefits ! 2003 SUBARU WRX STI V7 Spec C IHI VF37 Twin Scroll TURBO .Twin Scroll design means faster spooling than the VF34 therefore LESS TURBO LAG ! This thing is in MINT condition and should be good for 400 HP plus ! , 6000 Kms are very low Kms and condition shows ! .No Unusual wear !

Thanks
Mike

Twin scroll requires mods to exhaust manifolds, uppupe and downpipe to suit. It has less top end then VF34

PS: it's been a long wait for these mods

cheers :wink:
