I assume everyone has read this.... but Ill post for the newbies

as I posted in MRT in response to wannabe record breakers.... wankers.

an interesting article.
http://www.subaru-global.com/about/history/1989-001.html#subhead-001
in 1989 a stock std RS liberty averages 225km/h over 100000kms on an oval circuit average includes driver changes and refuelling.

in 1993 a stock legacy gt sets world land speed record for a wagon at bonnyville salt flats. 250km/hr.
http://www.subaru-global.com/about/history/1993-001.html#subhead-002

in 1998 a stock legacy gt breaks the 24hr land spped record for a wagon!
average 270km/hr!
http://www.subaru-global.com/about/history/1998-001.html#subhead-001

300 for a modified rex? pfft.
or maybe you need a liberty?

hmm Julian Edgar did a few tests from south australia to western australia if i remember, he had over 200KPH average speeds and around 10L/100km fuel economy!
this was standard RS i think

Did anyone mention without the RS winnig a WRC round the WRX would have not made it to the track. Colin had to win in the legacy before he was given the WRX. They have forgot there past really quickly there.

But I wonder why they do use the legacy now and not the WRX? Maybe the legacy has a bigger market outside of Australia that we don't know about.

The legacy is subarus mainstay, if this generation of legacy had of been a flop subaru wouldnt of been able to handle it, unlike when the MY01's came out and sales were poor, it wasnt that vital.

Also subaru just wanted to prove the legacy could win before they used the impreza, so prodrive got a move on so they could start using the impreza. Some ppl say that if prodrive hadnt of won with the legacy during 93 subaru was going to pack up there WRC dreams, wouldnt that have been a shame!

i will bet all the left nuts in the galaxy that the kind gentlemen who started this thread will not go for this top speed run and secondly will not come close to the target speed!!! i know from experience that this guy is full of more wind than than sense and reality, even more than me :D

Az

huh?
SLEPT, do you have a question?

just pointing out that the majority of WRX owners have no idea..

they are talking about how hard it would be to make 300kph, when a stock GT-B can do 270 off the factory production line....

?????

was going to have a bite, but refrained

I have a video with the '89 record attemt on it, all very good. \
and the legacy would have won in greece in '93 if vatanen hadn't chucked it off a cliff, we was winning comfortabley.
i think they would have used the impressa even if the legacy didn't win... didn't stop them from going back to the legacy for australia after the impressa's brilliant showing at 1000 lakes, cheaper post i guess. the legacy, by '92 was fast and reliable (mostly) but not really good enough against new gt4/cossie/delta/evo's, the impressa was. no matter how many crap vids lapworth will tell that story, the impressa was due for 1000 lakes, it the legacy didn't win they may have kept it till the end of the season but you wouldn't really kep using it when you have a faster car with $$$$$ of development just because you had to win with old one before you could use new one

sorry to confuse you aaron i think my post was a little confusing, i was just hinting at the fact that the topic on mrt forum is all talk and in particular the guy who started it is never going to try and do a 300kph run at all anyway. its seems more likely that he is posing and blowing his own trumpet rather than proving his theory on a track of course. hope i did not confuse you not much that i write is of a serious nature :D I know the guy well and he is one strange cat!!!!

Not that there's a track in Oz where you could do 300kmh in a car anyway.... you would have to have some VERY serious power to hit that figure as well to overcome the aero drag... consider that most supercars that can clear 300kmh are all wedge shaped!

Considering those Commos/Falcons in the V8 Supercar series going on the conrod straight at 290-ish before they brake for the corner, I don't think a Rex or a Liberty can make 300kph there unless there're some very serious mods (including brake)......Remember they've got 620bhp......

Exactly my point... more like 280kmh before they brake. Once you get to a certain point it takes a lot more horsepower to go only a couple of kmh faster due to the massive wind drag.

Mat

The fastest i saw on the weekend was 291 in qualifying, buggered if i know which car tho. No lib or rex would get anywhere near that in street trim. And the guy you are refering to according to secret sources cant drive his finger up his bum anyway.

the video i have is a Best Motoring video, they comare the RS to the VR4, toss about in the snow, 1/4 mile etc have a look at the car and there is the bit about the record atempt. All in Japanese so i don't actually know what the're saying but there you go. also according to them the bog standard Jap RS has 220 PS and a 9000rpm tacho and a nice and noisy exhaust note...

Mat :shock:Spot on, Its been proven time and time again that it takes 600+hp to make 200mph at bonnevile in a normal shaped sedan. less for the supercars because of there so much better areo as u said.

i dont know ifIm dreaming this but did Glenn Seton do 300km down conrod about 5 years ago? I didnt see anyone get near that this year though. I dont think these WRX guys have any idea how hard it would be to get 300km/h !!

the only reason they dont do 300 now is they have to drive back UP the other side of the mountain..

gearing is a compromise.. with taller gearing, the v8's would hit 300.

there used to be some real weapons rolling around that track back in the day... pity.

I'd like to see a demo round of the Jap gp series held at bathurst, gtr's, full house wrx's and supras.. that would be cool.

DRMAT

Yeah but they are running the tallest gear sets they can and the lowest diff ratio as well.... and only hitting the limiter just before the kink in conrod.

Mat
