Although I am a bit far away, I was wondering if anyone down under makes Carbon, or Fibreglass replacement panels for an early Legacy, pre 94 ??
Thinking, bonnet and bootlid mostly ?? Maybe even wings ??
Not looking for any fancy designs, just a lightweight replacement.

We've talked about it and discussed it before although i could never rustle up any reasonable prices...
HOWEVER
my mate just had some work done at a custom bodyshop up here and the guys there do really high quality work!
Apparently bonnets are very hard to do because of the amount of reinforcement needed. I'd assume bootlids are in a similar category...???
I was thinking a pair of pumped/flared/fatter guards would look damn cool though! :D I'll see if i can get down to the shop sometime and have a chat with them about making up a mould...

Carbon fibre bonnets have been discussed on the forum, but from memory nothing was available and nothing was done to have any made.

CF are not legal are they? Not that my ride hight or db is either
Wouldn't fancy a CF splinter through me as the bonnet shatters

So what would that do to cars like the F50 ? McClaren F1 ?? Or indeed an F1 car ?
They tend to have a few Carbon Fibre bits

mmmm... widebody car... :D
Ummm, apparently Dashboard Centre (http://www.dashboardcentre.com.au/) can do custom widebody flares, I think their prices are somewhere between $300-1000 for a pair. I enquired ab out them a while ago and was very keen at one stage! - before I bought my HIDs (http://www.rslibertyclub.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9968) and Boomerang pager alarm (http://www.rslibertyclub.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9968), which ware more useful

Straight carbon fibre bonnets aren't legal; however they are legal if they are reinforced with fibreglass.
Real carbon fibre is very strong on direct impact, however very brittle (yes the sentence makes sense, it depends on how the impact is). Looks awesome, very lightweight, but goodbye crumple zones! Especially if you have a fibreglass bodykit... like me :(

Dude are you like some posting advertisment or somthing?
Does anyone know how much a normal bonnet weights compared to a carbon fiber one? Unless there was a considerable weight difference i wouldnt bother, they look crap if not on the right car, and especially stock cars.

The std bonnet is pretty heavy. Havent you lifted one recently ??
A fibreglass or Carbon would weigh very little, so it would be a worthwhile saving.
Sure, didnt Subaru see fit to give the WRX an aluminium bonnet. That would be heavier than Fibreglass.

I am not a robot. I do not automate my messages. :D
nah, only posted Dashboard Centre because somebody recommended them to me and I had a look at them, price seemed pretty reasonable and the guy seemed to know what he was talking about.
carbonfibre/fibreglass bonnets are significantly lighter than the steel equivalent; I think a normal bonnet weighs around 30kg, whereas a CF/FG is about 5-10.
But in losing weight you also lose crumple zone... although I reckon a carbon fibre bonnet would look awesome on a white RS Liberty with gold rims... makes me wanna get one ;)
edit: an RS Liberty, that is :D

crumple zones are more within the vehicle chassis, rather than external items like wings or bonets.
Bonnets and wings offer little or no resistance in an impact.

Actually, you'll be surprised at how much a steel bonnet will crumple in impact minimisation. It's not HEAPS, true, but it does help noticeably.

So has anyone got a rough estimate on what an RS bonnet in fibreglass/carbon fibre would be worth ?
I would be very interested in one.. safety ? whats that ?

bonnets you can expect to pay around $1200
i'm ordering a second gen CF bonnet for my car next month (posted up to gather interest a while back - anyone else?).
if you can not find a supplier boat builders are the people to get in contact with for all fiberglass / carbon fibre work...
