Latest update.
Coilovers went in last night, and front mount was mounted today. I have to say the car is now sitting pretty damn low!
First stage will be finished by december and she will be back on the road for a little while. The rest of the list of things to do will be completed early next year and now includes a complete colour change respray. Here are a few latest pics....

on my mates 99 sti they did something pretty werid
used like 2.5" piping from the turbo the the intercooler then 3" from the intercooler to the engine, the piping might be diffrent sizes, but i was just having a guess, but there is a size diffrence, the piping from the turbo looks similar to the size of the outlet in the turbo

he says it spools up pretty fast, faster than stock, still has the stock turbo on it but

Ruf20L,

Very nice piping...I'm also looking at FMIC, but using a Volvo's current model to fit.

I see their end tanks are pointing toward engine, but I will most likely change to a slightly shorter radiator, so the end tanks can clear the sides, and I have shorter pipings.

SC00BS
2nd January 2005, 07:13 PM
Thanks coolhand. Out of curiosity how big is the volvo intercooler? As for the radiator, I actually changed mine to an MY95 radiator. It is the same size and has the same fittings as the RS one but bigger cooling fans

Coolhand
2nd January 2005, 07:25 PM
Ruf, it's as big as the radiator...haven't gotten measurement though...can get it done easily.

It's wide, but not thick...I think the connecting ends are 2.5 max.

Otherwise, I'll go Ebay and hunt down some old Porsche's unit or a medium sized IC...I'm not targetting high HP, coz my engine is high compression built.

SC00BS
2nd January 2005, 07:31 PM
High Compression?? Why is that? To give you an idea mine is 600x300x76 and I had problems with headlights. I am actually having the inside corners of the lights slightly filed so they fit properly. Just make sure you cover all angles and measure everything before you buy it. the last thing you want is an intercooler that won't fit

Coolhand
2nd January 2005, 07:39 PM
High compression engine is for good low - mid range.

However, I find the current water intercooled setup not sufficient enough. So, I'm looking into few options...

bigger radiator, water pump and a spare water tank for current setup, or just go FMIC.

Looking at the Volvo's I got good idea...least piping work and headaches, but the radiator would be chopped slightly to accomodate.

Or a straight end FMIC, with some longer piping...

SC00BS
2nd January 2005, 07:42 PM
I have noticed a tad more lag with fmic due to the longer piping but when it comes on boost it loves it, I get a much bigger kick in the ass. But it will all be a thing in the past after the new motor is finished

Coolhand
2nd January 2005, 07:48 PM
Yeah, with your new engine, it'll be better.

In fact, with your current, it could not be worse off, maybe a 500+ rpm lag? All you need is a programmable ECU to alter the fuel dump and timing down low to rid the lag...

SC00BS
2nd January 2005, 07:59 PM
Yeah I know. But with what I'm spending it's not worth getting the ecu reprogrammed or chipped. I'll just wait till I fit the M800

hmm thats certainly alot of suspension modding . I hope it turns out good for you because sometimes it is not a good thing to do it all at once! This was suggested to me once at a suspension shop and i sorta agreed in a way. Basically the idea is, if you don't like the setup when everything is in, you won't know WHAT you don't like, cos sometimes some things can be more necessary than others. Maybe it would be a good idea to take it for a spin after a few mods first? Just a thought...hey it may turn out real sweet for ya!

Sounds the goods, getting there with the suspension, as you i have done alot of suspension mods, and as suggested i would put things in slowly over time as you might not like the feel of the car when it's done ... everyone has there own driving style, one question though , have you got any info on the rear tow lock kit ? ... also have you got adjustable strut tops on your coilovers !? ...

SC00BS
23rd June 2005, 04:10 PM
Yeah Jel, they came with the coilovers.

Alright guys I can't keep the secret. Here goes :-
I have just purchased the following
V3 STi motor(206kw JDM version ut of limited edition wagon) motor is being rebuilt with new bearings.
It has a VF22 standard and will most likely get it modified to a PE1820 later on
Twisted up pipe and custom down pipe air filter is also being moved to inside the guard.
It will be running the JDM ECU with a Wolf 3D plug 'n'play which allows me to get rid of the afm
I'll be running the STi 5 speed box
Sti brakes front and rear(4 pot front :D )
New clutch pedal assembly

All being done the master himself - King Al :P

Take into account I have already fitted :-
JIC coilovers
Apexi AVCR
Bosch HEC716 coils
Bosch 600hp fuel pump
Malpassi rising rate fuel regulator
600x300x76 fron mount intercooler
3" exhaust of the turbs with a 3"hi-flow cat

I can't wait till it's done. And Brendan - Dubs pfffft :g you know I'm not into that shit. I'm designing it for street and track work, I'm not that interested in the drag strip. I've put the respray on hold at the moment and may just stick with white. I have a few body adjustments that I think a lot you guys will be interested in(something to do with my front bar). I don't have any info on the toe lock kit Jel just the part number KCA377. I told the guy from whiteline I want a list of everything I replace suspension wise and he sent me the list, then I ordered it from Tim at a cheaper price :D

I hear there isnt much of an advantage to reversing the manifold. There is a comon perception that it will reduce lag but not sure it is worth the effort as the alternator needs to be relocated etc. Does the V3 STI EJ20T have a closed deck block?

Damian they are open deck. To make sure it's genuine check the valve lifter buckets, there should be no visible shim between the cam and bucket, if there is it isn't an STi engine(Thanks for the info Al).

Sepsis, power hmmmm well it's a jdm motor out of a limited edition wagon. It was rated at 280-300hp and had 206kw in standard trim(That is flywheel of course), taking into account its being rebuilt and there is a fair bit done to the car I will be happy with a figure around 200kw at the wheels

It will be a while whitey. Had a little run in with a 6ft roo on the way to dropping the car off, so now it needs a little more than the engine work. But it's in Als extremely capable hands now. Haven't seen the car for a couple of weeks and Im already having withdrawals. And with it being over 1000km's away I can't just take a drive to see the progress.

SC00BS

Well the V3 motor came with forged pistons and sodium filled valves in standard trim. The heads and rods have been sent away to be machined and the crank has just been linished. This motor is the limited edition 280hp motor that was in the limited edition STi wagon. It is getting new bearings as well, then take into account everything else thats getting done(On one of the other pages of this thread) and you will start to get an idea that thing will f@#king hammer when it's finished. I haven't designed it the car for drags, it's for track and twisties

SC00BS

Dude it's an STi motor. That's why it's red. It's a GFB pulley kit that is going on the motor and they are definitely the right size

sepsis
19th August 2005, 06:29 AM
definitely looking good scoobs, any plans to reverse the inlet manifold or too ricey for ya? ;)

that lightweight pulley kit should help the rev happiness for sure, they receive mixed reviews though, apparently heavy duty belts are a good idea, any thoughts Al? I'm also looking at these next year (but have heard some horror stories)

aww c'mon now is she staying white mate? or something a little more special? (although white definitely looks the buisness with gold rims!)

Al
19th August 2005, 10:18 AM
The manifold is actually a GTB item that has been painted. The reason for this is that the STi manifold has been brutally gernied by quarantine and the paint is flaking off it. Because it would need respraying anyway and cleaning all the old paint off is time consuming I used the GTB manifold instead and painted it. the manifolds are identical except there is more vacuum outlets on the plenum and it has no coil mount(which isn't needed) so is cleaner looking.
The pulley kit is bound to have it's compromises but time will tell whether they are acceptable or not.

pulley kits have their uses, but you need to have some weight on the crank, so its best to leave the flywheel a bit heavier.

Thanks for the sympathy -- being hit by a car being driven by a p-plater busy looking at the beach and not watching where they're actually driving really hurts!!!

Oh well, my birthday present in a couple of weeks is to be able to walk again! :D

When the car gets back to us from its little kangaroo-induced makeover, I'll be able to polish it don't you worry. Yes I will get sick of polish in the end (I realise those darkish colours need to be kept very very tidy at all times) -- I won't get sick of it looking so shiny and new though!!!!

If that is the case Jason(it does ring a bell now) then I am sure they will supply a replacement. When I was working there I used the cooler from your car a few times and replaced it when another arrived but I didn't realise you had bought it from Joel direct.

There was no intentional dishonesty involved, everyone there would have loved to see the car finished and delivered to you. A lot of work went into it(especially from me) and I am sorry you weren't able to enjoy the result. The new owner will definitely do it justice though, you can be assured of that. :)

Ok, so this is where it's at. I've been working 7 days a week lately (5 days at work 2 days with Al) so not much time for my own projects unfortunately:P
The updates i have is that i have sold the engine and driveline out of the car and Al and I will be shortly fitting it all to another Gen 2 RX sedan (the new hotness :tu) at the end of the month. In its place will go this:
'01 STI donk with unichip:

http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m268/stints-RSLC/WebbyRS001.jpg

which came out of this, which inturn received this, an early RS engine with a VF35 turbo and 16bit WRX ecu with chip:

http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m268/stints-RSLC/WebbyRS002.jpg

Vehicle already had the FMIC and 3" exhaust fitted. Car is running 15psi and hammers!!!! I was pleasantly surprised with the result considering the engine that came out of the car! :P

This car is now Mum's taxi (sorry Bron:P) so therefore the go fast engine was better placed in the car with all the bell's and whistles:D I will be hopefully dropping the engine into the black car this week (in my spare time!) I will take some more pics tthen and post em up.
Cheers Miles:D

isn't that a rex bov?

Al
6th November 2006, 10:46 AM
Allow me to elaborate.
The lucky owner of the RS in the pics will soon own Scoobs as well. The red car had an 02 STi engine in it, much good. We figured the race engine should be in the race car(scoobs) so we convinced him to fit a stock engine to the red car and put the sti engine in scoobs.

He came across a new VF35 cheap so we fitted that to the very low km jap RS engine along with a very nicely tuned ecu and some BIC 800 coils and the result is a very healthy and surprisingly powerful red car.

Yes, the owner of Red car and scoobs is a very lucky man(and wife).

Capiche!

Scoobs' engine was never going to stay in scoobs, it is going into a gen 2 RX where it belongs.

The bov is from the STi engine. The pipe work had to be cut and modified because of the throttle body location difference(closer to firewall on RS engine).

Hot side piping is now half the length with the rotated compressor housing.

Yep you've dead right Tim :) I was trying to keep it quiet but stints has let the cat out of the bag. Most of the QLD guys would have guessed by now anyway. Got the car back yesterday arvo and it drives very well with the 35 on it. Goes better than I thought it would. Big thanks to Stints and Al for another job well done :tu :tu . Bron is happy with the car but she'll probably want some more power at the end of the week :D

I'm going to have to wait a couple of weeks for the black car to be finished :( Not long now anyway, be a great Chrissy present!! Hopefully Stints will be able to have a break for Christmas and New Year, he certainly deserves one :tu

Hiya guys, It's been a busy few months with work etc, but here is some pics of the car as it is now. Yhe engine that has gone in to it is an '02 sti. I have fitted the 600x300x100 i/c and with the help of Al, re-routed the piping. I have left the twisted setup for the turbo which came off the Ver 3 beforte it was sold to 2boosten.
The only things left are cut, fit and paint bumper, cut and buff paintwork and a bloody good detail!!! I haven't had much of a run it yet, but am looking forward to giving it a squirt:P

what sort of power output are you looking for? howcome you didnt invert the IC if you decided to change the pipe route?

Probably the same as it had before, around the 200kw mark hopefully with a re-tune. There were holes already cut in the inner-guards for the way it is mounted now. I think that the intake manifold on a V7 is slighly different than the V3 that the piping was originally made for. So to invert would mean to try and patch holes in the guards, tidy up, re-paint engine bay, get Al to make up another set of pipes.............basically heaps more cash which I don't have!!!

Well, it's been a long time coming, but it's finally finished.
I am delivering the car to the new owner tomorrow night and it should be seen cruisin the streets of Brisbane very soon! The car runs sweet, The power is very nice and managable and the car handles very well. Unfortunately the coilovers have gone as 3 of them were leaking and it is not cost effective to overhaul them, so i have replaced all of them with a set of bilsteins from a Gen 2 GTB and fitted GC8 rear springs and top spring mounts and bearing plates. The abundance of whiteline goodies make this car a dream to drive and you don't realise how quick you just went through that last corner until you glance down at the speedo:P It sticks like sh*t to a blanket!! I hope Jason (scoobs) is still floating around the forum so he can see the finished result. Anyways here are the pics:D

Took delivery of the black beast last night, very happy man :D Good to feel the roar of that Sti engine again! It has been along time coming, nearly 4 months with a few hiccups along the way. It goes hard and handles very well, can't wait for the next cruise to give it a flogging. The car ended up finished minus some bits, like Jason(Scoobs) I have run out of available funds. Hoping to add some bits over the next couple of years as a work in progress. I would like to thank Miles and Al for building a fanastic car :tu :tu . They both have poured a lot of time and effort into and it is much appreciated :D

All in all a fanastic result. :tu
