G'day all,

Driving home from work yesterday arvo, I was turning left onto Hewish Rd from Springfield Ave in Croydon, Vic, and noticed a police car turning right into the street I was exiting.

10 minutes later, just before I reached home, I noticed a police car racing up behind me in my lane. I changed into the right lane (as I was about to turn right) and noticed that they ducked into the right lane one car behind me.

"Here we go" I thought to myself, having no idea what I may have done.
A minute or two later, they caught me and pulled me over.

I followed all the "best practice" procedure when being pulled over.
a) hop out of your car and speak eye-to-eye
b) politely deny any wrongdoing (easy because I had no idea what the problem was)
c) not get irate.

It turns out that back in Croydon where they first spotted me,I (to use their terminology) "Crashed a stop sign"... which apparently means that I didn't come to a complete stop before turning lefy. They then apparently followed me for about 10 minutes before deciding to pull me over, maybe hoping that I'd do something stupid? :?

After a bit of a lecture, and the usual "go sit in your car" waiting period, the (quite young) police officer let me off with a warning.

I wonder if this would have happened, had I been driving my old green 92 Camry... or even the old GX... Somehow I think not. :(

I have been done for that before and I was in a sigma
They followed me for 10 mins then decieded to pull me over. I coped a nice $125 fine for it, and 3 points.
I was on my P's then too.

There's something to be said for being 34 then... :-)

I think the office who nabbed me was about 19 or 20.

He also kept mentioning the wrong road name where it had happened, which confused us both, and shed a little more doubt on the indicent.

I also think he may have lost me during the 10 minutes, and just spotted me again out of luck, because I'm sure he wasn't behind me for part of the trip, as I check my mirrors a fair bit.

He looked a bit perplexed when I said it may have been another car. But we did eventually agree that I was probably the one, having driven down Hewish rd on the way home.

Anyhoo... I'm happy

Another reason for them following you for 10 mins is checking your full driving and criminal history on the onboard computer. I assume anyway.

Yeah probably...

All I have had of late is a few camera fines (66 in 60 and 76 in 70) and I also stopped to assist an MVA a few months back. Other than that nothing for years.

i think that cops have to be at least 21 don't they? :-k
anyway, they do follow you hoping that you will slip up again. if you are speeding through two different speed zones, they'll nab you for both! etc
i have been on 11 points twice, and to court 3 times, but have never lost my licence 8)
cops don't bother me now that i have my RS... used to have an E49 RT charger... burnt orange, with "pull me over" RT stripes on it!

Not quite there (a mere 3 years to go) but agree with your philosophy of talking eye to eye, being polite, and not agreeing to doing anything wrong.
I have been pulled over a few times for 'minor' wrong doings and have always managed to get off with a warning and polite "have a nice day/night sir".
Glad you didn't have to contribute to the policemans ball so to say.

But of course, we all know that policemen don't have balls... :P
