hell no Aaron
take a look at TPG's offerings
I think they have a 1500 unlimited plan for about $70 at the moment..... with some virtual phone card thing too......
www.tpg.com.au
i havent signed up yet...... too lazy and too slack.... but it looks like the go
otherwise, you can check out... umm.. i think it's whirlpool.com.au or whirlpool.org ..... something like that.... theyre forums about checking out the latest offerings on broadband... pricing, deal, connection speed, etc, etc
try to avoid telstra if you can... i've heard nothing but bad reports from them.... and optus
cheers
Dave
PS: i should slow down my typing... i'm going for the record for owner-edits of the one post :P

im with iinet, have their iiphone as well, but i dont use the local phone much, my daughter uses it more than me :) but yeh, $49.95 for the bundle. 1500/256 20gig/20gig downloads, and when they upgrade the dslam Q4 this year, ill be broadband 2 speeds, so up to 12000/2048 speeds for the same price ;)

Telstra are a rip off, tpg are actually slow most of the time (you don't get 1500/256) IInet or internode are very good, I think with iinet you need local calls to get the dslam upgrade, and I believe it's available in a lot of areas already, so check

if you want real braodband look into ADSL2, like you said, but there there are only a few ISP's out there setting this up, but for like $59.95 a month from adam internet in adelaide you can get 24000 / 1000 and a 40gig download limit a month. i am planning on upgrading up to this very shortly,
http://adsl2.adam.com.au/
the reason for it being cheap is that they are setting up there own exchanges in certain areas, so they dont have to go through telstra, hence it is heaps cheap and hell faster

Have the same deal with iinet but I'm paying $69.95 with iphone :? cruiseEH do you have an inside contact
BTW I point everyone to http://www.whirlpool.net.au/ for unbiased opinions for Internet access in their area's. Last 3 people I sent to whirlpool just signed up with the same plan as me with iinet. (I should be getting a spotters fee 8) )

TPG @ iinet are definatelty the pick of the pack at the moment in terms of price and speed. TPG suffers a little pingwise if you play a lot of online games (CS:S, etc), but their "pay as you use" option is quite good for people that aren't addicted to the net.
iinet are also offering free upgrades to adsl2 on some of their 1500mb plans - depending on when the exchange in your area supports this. Bigpond used to have reliability as their drawcard, but this has been slowly but surely burnt away with average service and average customer relations, as well as their horrible downtime record.
Whirlpool is an excellent resource, but remember it's a forum not a bible, and there's a lot of idiots out there that like to blame ISPS and equipment for their own shortcomings.

been with TPG for over a year now and havent had nay problems. i am on the older 256kb plan though. the newer 1500kb plan sucks in my opinion, they used to offer it as totally unlimited for about $80/month. guess they got sick of all that pron coming through their servers.

I have TPG 1500/256 20gig limit and pay 49.95/month
I still don't think its fast enough for online games, yanks still get to host most of the games.

George,
Yes I do work for iinet..
I use iinet adsl at home and have never had a problem with it.. I hear about a lot of people complaining about tgp's service (or lack there of) but none the less its advisable that people read unbiased opinions on whirlpool forums..
When adsl2 comes out its gonna be interesting, as iinet will basically have their own dslam's in place around most places..
