Autbox ? Help!

Hi,

I am hoping you can give me some advice. I have found a 1993 Subaru Liberty Sedan Auto GX AWD with 230 000 kms on the clock. Body is in good condition.

RACV have done an inspection and that told me the following, the Gearbox is sluggish between second and third and the rocket cover/general area is leaking oil. I am not really concerned about the oil leak as the seller is going to get Subaru to fix this but I am worried as to how soon the gearbox will give up and at what cost to repair ?

I am buying the car for 6000$.

Is it worth it or should I walk away ? I am in a rush as I need a car for a recently acquired job.

Also can you recommend any Subaru places in Melbourne to have the car looked after ?

Shoot me down but seems alot for that year gx with so much on the clock. And with 200 + on the standard? box, not knowing its history, wouldnt be totally surprised if it was on the way out. My thoughts anyway..

Look in for sale dude there are some cheap Rs's 1 is $6000.

Hmmm Look for another GX, 6000 is too much
u can pick em up for like 5500-4500 these days?

I would say 230K for that year car is low to average. If its the original box then it will be getting tired. Probably $2-$3K for a rebuild or a second hand box for $1K.

Thanks for the replies, I have decided to hold out for an RS.

BTW does anybody know a SUB with the no plate DNZSUB. Hangs around Eltham sometimes. I am pretty sure its an RS.

i know the decision has already been made but just incase i just had to change the gear box in my 95 lib TT it also is an auto and it cost $1150 including install so i dare say a standard gx would be a little cheaper and for a rebuild your looking at about $2300
