Ive just sold my trusty VL turbo which had a few light mods( exhaust, FMIC,T3/T4, EMS stinger..)It was a pretty decent taxi, running a tyre-frying 13.6...but a little agricultural..
Anyway Ive always liked the look of the early 90's RS, but I don't know a hell ofa lot about them. What sort of stock power ATW are you looking at roughly, and what sort of 1/4 mile time?
I'd also like to know what sort of basic mods are the most effective, and what sort of gains I can Expect from each.
Finally, are there any real inherent weaknesses in the engine/driveline that I should know about?
Im really keen on getting one, but a few people have told me that theyre difficult and expensive to modify... tell me it aint so!

the RS stock has about 100kw atw, add some light intake mods, a $350 ecu chip and a full exhaust. and youll be set for around 145-150 atw
to get more power than that reliably your looking at bigger injectors, fuelpump and aftermarket ecu
the stock motor can put out about 200kw atw fairly reliably with a good tune. there are people who have pushed past this. but the life of the engine would be questionable.

Chech the Technical FAQ section theres some good info on buying an RS and moddifying an RS with power gains etc.
Hope this helps.

billsy, who's got 200 atw with a stock motor? and who's pushed past it? imo 200atw on a stock motor is pushing the limits of it.

thats my eventual target. though my engines not completely stock, but there are a few people with stock Ej20s on rexnet with around that figure, for engine life reasons most people upgrade the internals at the same time.
there is a guy in mildura with vf22, 440's, exhaust, avo top mount and unichip making 195atw on 19.5 psi
it definitely can be done.

Is that on a *very* happy dyno??
And in what gear?
Wish I could get that

Done in 3rd gear, and not on the Autotech dyno - makes me feel a little better :)

It's to do with the gearing. My car made 156.5 kw ATW on the same dyno, but because of my short ratio's it had 690nm @ 88kph.
There is no way my car has that much torque in the real world.
