Awesome dude! Thats a good start! Man i never new two cars that look so much alike could be so different? I know that the ECU is different...... Series 2 has a 16bit wheras a series one has an 8bit.
Hey do u know if series 2 headlights fit the series one front? Also did they make any changes to interior?

There weren't any chassis changes from s1 to s2 so they fitting them shouldn't be a problem. Though you may have problems when you want to close the bonnet - keep in mind the s1 headlight aren't level on top, they have a slight angle which is more pronounced the closer you get to the centre grill. the s1 bonnet is matched to this shape. The s2 lights are straight on top so it could foul on the headlights.
(have a look at an s1 and s2 car head on and you'll see what i mean)

Yeah i thought that might be the case.... I brought a series 2 grill 4 my car and it was a little short and it sat up too high!! Man to the uneducated eye they look identical its amazing how different they are!

Series 2 Headlights will fit on a Series 2 BUT you need to chage the blinkers/guards/bonnet grille and front bar. Everything bolts straight up except for the headlights, you need to drill a couple of new holes to mount them but its pretty easy to do.
The series 2 front end actually sits out about an inch further than the series 1. when i did my front end swap i left the series 1 bonnet on to see if it was any longer with the series 2 parts and just as i guessed it was.
Difference in length of the series 2 compared to the sries 1 here:

No the bonnet wont fit, it if about an inch longer and it doesnt have cut outs to fit the headlights, the series 2 bonnet is straight across.

It does cost a fair bit... you have to replace the front guards the blinkers the headlights the bonnet grille and front bar. then you have to paint the whole front end. Because my car was silver and silver being a mettalic colour you had to paint the whole front then slice back the front doors to blend the colour then reclear the whole doors. i got quoted $900 to do the front end thats why i got the whole car painted again.

It's interesting to see where Subaru made changes
(cutbacks to save money) between models. Quite
a lot were made between the Series 1 and 2 in
the Gen1 car, even though the basics were the
same. Using the GX AWD as an example - Just
looking at the interior, the Series 2 missed out on
forward/backward adjustable head restraints, map
pockets on rear of front seats, auto dimming roof
light, soft touch centre console lid, aux-in jack in
stereo, quick adjust/memory for rake on steering
wheel, fresh air to main vents on heating button,
coin tray by the drivers right leg, recepticle for
centre rear lap seat belt. And there are probably
some more I haven't found yet.
+ light in footwell by the fuse box (in Series 1, not in Series 2)

Note my car is s1 GX with "bits" - the grill i believe is JDM and supposedly reasonably rare...luke should be able to confirm or give more info
oh and just in case theres some confusion my car is the one on the right. people may get them confused : P

Possibly that grill is rare in AUS, but in NZ every turbo Gen1 S1 has is pretty much

Holy crap! if all of this is tru. I converted my Series 1 GX into a Series 1 RS, completely buy chance. I went out and just asked for the vented RS bonnet and a RS front bar. i bought each part at a different wrecker. and they fitted perfectly. what are the chances.
