View Full Version : Finally Got it Tuned

After all the problems with my old external gate the car has finally been tuned. I got a new TiAL 38mm gate fitted and since then there have been no more boost problems.

There are still a few little things to fix up but overall im really happy with the way it goes.

I had a run on the local dyno which was using a motec air/fuel meter (its really quick, that why the A/F curve is so up and down) and here is the sheet:

They thought there is a little miss so I am trying some new colder plugs with a smaller gap. Gotta sort a few more things out and then take it back to the dyno. I think the timing is pretty safe so hopefully there is some more power left in it.

Boost is set at 22psi with a GT30 turbo.

Modified cars are so much hassle and sometimes I wonder if they are worth it. After driving it I reckon its worth it!

Nice result mate you would have to be happy with 220kW at the wheels? Anyway congrats and best of luck in future attempts.

...92 Lib on the dyno sheet.
Must be a fair step up with the GT over the TD05.

Looking at the AFR's is there any room to lean it out any more in the upper revs?

Kenny, thats awesome!
Did ming/dts do the dyno run in third or fourth?
Just curious, as when some of the other ACT guys ran their cars at the wrx club dyno day, the guy from ming/dts was doing all our runs in third gear.
Bloody great result though!

Yeah its a very big difference. With the TD05 it made 168@wheels. A bit more lag but a lot more topend.

Im not sure how much more it can be leaned out up top. Will have to fix everything up first and see what the AFRs are. I don't really want to run it any leaner than 11.5. The turbo is just getting into its efficiency range so I am keen to try and squeeze a pound or 2 more boost into it as well. I don't want to run anything higher than 23-24 on pump fuel.

The dyno run was done in 4th gear. I don't know why they would have run them in 3rd. Most places run them in 4th.

It drives really nice and the throttle response is good. It is a bit laggy but it makes up for it when it comes on fullboost. Everyone said the turbo was too big for a 2L but I think its quite driveable.

your car is pretty much exactly what im starting to build now.

couple of questions

1. how much did your autronic set you back?, are u happy with it and whats it like to tune??

2. what are your wiseco pistons like and could you point me to any more info about them?

3. what are the argo rods like and what kind of dollars would i be shelling out for a set?

cheers mate congrats on the great car

Hi Matt

1. Probably best to talk to an Autronic agent. I got mine at trade and wired in for free. I think Autronic do a plug in one now. I think they do them fitted and tuned for around $2600. Tuning takes about 3-4 hours with the autotune chip and costs about $700. They are a great computer with lots of features. They are as good as Haltech and Motec.

2. The pistons are very noisy because they run large clearances. I havent had any problems with them though and they seem to be doing a good job. Next time I would go for CPs pistons which should be a lot quieter. www.serco.com.au are the distributors for wiseco. I think I paid around $800.

3. I had a look at the argo rods before they were installed and they are a work of art. I believe evade also uses these. I had another brand lined up to go in before I got the argo's but they were so bad I sent them back and got a refund. There were issues where the rod bolts go and they were generally crap. I wont mention the brand though.....Stick with Argo, cost was $1320

Check out MRT forums. Someone is selling Pistons, Rods and metal headgasket for 2K which is pretty good.
