Spotted a brown wagon with the plates taken off it on Homebush Bay Drive this morning. There were a couple of other cars as well with the plates taken off them parked in front of the wagon. The cops were there early this morning doing the radar trick and I imagine they caught the wagz as well as a few others doing big speeds... Soon to be impounded :(

Anyone here?

they have this new radar that zero in on the plates and check not only the speed but the rego status and a few other things like if the car is stolen. Was on 60 minutes about 3 months ago

And if youre doing 30+kph over the limit, you get pulled over, your plates get taken by the cops so you cant drive the car anymore, and depending on your driving record and the seriousness of the offence you can lose your car for between 1 month and forever....

Wouldnt it be more effective taking the whole car rather than just the plates, had to drive a new van across town today with no plates/rego for work since i forgot to bring the trade plate *doH!*

Chris its basically 2 cop cars with a radar bout 500m apart so they, basically the plate is scanned an by the time u get close to the next cop car, they no whether to pull u over or not.

They take the plates off the car on the spot, and the then flat-bed the car away later in the day...

whatever it is called it is also the wrong way to deal with the issue of speeding et al. Impounding the cars for a given period is one this but confiscating them permantly is just Nazi-ist.

Also, they confiscate them, impound them, then sell them for whatever they can get. It is just palin fked up. Nazi government for sure. They will sell it ala NRMA insurance auction style, under the hammer to the lowest bidder. So it may sell for $5k where you could get $10k if they let you register it for 2 months and let people test drive it. Its just plain unfair. I had a mate have this happen to him once. Luckily, he knew the guy that bought it, and they worked something out:D

They've been confiscating cars and selling them at auction in NSW for ages, gotta be over 10 years now. If you get caught street racing (or are in the vicinity of street racing), doing burnouts and basically hooning around, then you get your car impounded. Do it again, they sell it.

Newcastle was one of the first areas they trialled this approach on in the 1990s.

you would find they dont just take plates off cars for first offence (or impound it) over 30 but less than 45, as i have a friend who was cought over 30 but under 45 and the finded him took his licence, told him to drive home and not any further untill his suspension had been lifted (3 months )

if you are a regular of known for those offences they will, or if your doing over 45 they will or if the cop is a prick he will but more than likely they wont.

yet again its more nazi revenue rasing BS and they still wont put in for driver education or training, like with the recent knee jerk reactions in NSW with those kids who died (4 north coast) they are wanting to stop P platers from driving at night and in the wet and with X amount of passsangers ...

so one night when they are off their P's and its raining and they have a car full of people they wont know what to do will they ???

yeah I know they have been doing it for a while. They probably started out at Kooragang drag strip, ah I mean island, it doesnt make it all okay though. It still sucks ass to know that you could get double what they are selling it for.

Do you actually get the money from the sale? Or do the wankers keep it?

No. You get nothing except a fine and some nasty writing on your record.

Not sure if it was Yods'... It was dark brown with tints, standard RS rims, looked like standard height and a cannon zorst, had a fairly big sticker of some type on the tailgate glass...
