the fog light rule thingo is a bit stupid i reakon, yes, they are sposed to be used in fog or rain, but they give the extra light when driving at night which i would put it as more safer.

but unlucky mate, $77 is alright, it could of been worst

Try being on the road all night with tools driving on well lit roads & freeways with their fog lights on sitting up your date, you just want to get out & smash them. Use them for what they were designed for.

i just played dumb and still he was a dick. yeh lucky it as only $77.
hiway patrol is there to make the road safer, not to just fine for stupid stuff n make money.

But when you think about it, part of there job is to reveneu raise, so technically they are doing their job. As many people have said, if the stuff is illegal, then bare the consequences.

That said, the fog lights law is pretty stupid. The only reasoning I could see behind it was outlined by d_generate. On some peoples cars' their foglights are not positioned as fog lights (i.e. they should be facing down at the ground substantially more than your normal lights) and because of this, they have enacted laws to prohibit the use of the lights unless they are absolutely needed.

A defect of $77... you got off pretty much. Lucky it wasn't a 3 figure sum!

yay for the fog light rule! ive been hit with that one before, for any highlands members i had jus driven through Robbo the foggiest place in the world and STILL the cop delved me a $77 fine AND told me my Wing looked stupid and to take it off before he fined me for illegal protrusion from vehicle (this was on my Riced up astra, the rolling billboard :))

there's a law against having the foggies on! WOW that explains the evil looks police give me when i go past with them on.. thanks fellas, save me a potential $77 fine.

our foggies aim at the ground anyway , compared to some, it seems like some newer cars like commonwhores that the fogs are 10x brighter than the headlamps!!

i believe the wording has something to do with weather conditions that affect visibility, well night affects my visibility, so does rain, fog, etc...

have been pulled up on it on my other car, but they were DRIVING lights not Fog lights, explained the diff to him and he said just point them down a bit more as they were a little high as was all ok about it !, but he first had to stop, turn around and catch up to me (130 in a 100zone, he was in a turbo patrol 4x4 on way out of tamworth) which concerned me more but didnt say anything about it...

My old rs was charcoal (the dark aust colour) I constanty had the foggies on, for the pure purpose of not dying. I had five poeple over time not see my car and pull out on me. So i thought if i ever get a fine ill pay it because at least people could see me. (maybe the fact that most of the time the probaly thought they could get out in time , but I was under booost..ha aha.

I have them on all the time on the outback same reason, but they shine down and only beam 2-4m and are not bright. I think the guys with the snake eyes, bright as f#@k that are bolted on, with neons on the wiper blades may more so disserve the fine.

Yes funnily enough police are allowed to have red/blue lights on their cars. Hmm I wonder why.

Serves you right for having blue parkers tho!

naif
2nd November 2006, 10:49 PM
teddy it states in the vehicle regulations under lights that only emergency/police vehicles are allowed red and blue aftermarket lights.

as for fog lights, most new cars have them known as "day driving lights" they are on all the time while the car is.

think yourself lucky, he could have done you for wheels, ride height, exhaust, etc etc

wots the diff between driving lites and fog lites?
mine are no use as fog lites as they have white lite globes in them and dont travel heaps far.
was neally gunna bring it up, but he seemed cranky and didnt want him to defect my zorst aswell, im surprised he didnt tho. its dam loud:P

big_tedman

the diference between driving and fog lights is in the lenses, driving lights go long distances, fog lights are only short distance but spread the light out so you can see the road.

as far as the cops are concered, driving lights come on with the head lights and can not be switched off. eg integra

by law you must be able to switch them off,
just like wiring spot lights on a vehicle, they have to have a independent switch

mate got defected in her calibra and the cop said to her what i said. if you can switch it on or off, its a fog light and may only be switched on in poor visibility. a light that turns on when you turn on the main head lights is a driving light (usually very dull like a parker light) eg integra, pajero? cars like that. driving light you cant turn off.

they are sposed to be used in fog or rain,

No. You cannot use them in the rain.
The ammended wording states that they are only to be used in "foggy conditions".

Highway cars can have them on at whatever time they want.

Cheers,
Craig.

i guess it depends alot on the coppers where your at too , i keep my headlights and foglights on 24/7 i never turn either off even in the day, have been like that for a year and havent been even looked at once? Guess its a revenue thing , like lets target foglights today for some pocket money .. :( although im sure there is a legit reason why they arent supposed to be on.. or cops are just broke mofos lol ..

No, they are not above the law, they are exempt from that particular statute.
