Was out at the cotter with a few mates following a couple in a sprinter and i ended up hitting a wombat because i didn’t want to go off a cliff or hit a wall, some how it didn’t do massive damage. I think i just missed running a wheel over him causing suspension damage and i think he went under the front and out just behind the front right wheel. Ended up cracking the front bar and all the paint on it. Smashing a spot light, some metal behind the bar bent, paint on the front right side of the car and a few other things like the right hand side splash guard. I was sure it would have done more damage. We went back and cracked on the wombat and luckily he was dead. I hate killing animals. We dragged im off the road and then check on the car.

Are there and better front bars i can get for a 1992 libs wagon, especially one with more room for a front mount as i have one and am too slack to get piping made up and use the welder to make some mounts.

hmmm oh well, good times lol give me motivation to do stuff to my car

i hit a emu at 160kph once, it was about a meter tall, didnt do **** all to my car!! surprisingly!! i wasnt swerving for **** at that speed! it went straight over the bonnet and launched it sky high (no sh*t like a good 5 meters up i rekon) cos i looked in my rear vision mirror and just saw feathers, then the emu coming crashing down seconds later, crazy! felt sooo sorry for it, but somehow it made me laugh wen i realised my car was a-o-k! :S

was cruising through my suburb and someones cat decides it loves subarus, I saw it coming as it was on the path running behind parked cars on the side of the road, then chucks a right angle turn and tries to hug my front bar lol. no traffic so I swerved for it to go right under the middle of the car would have went under bother passenger wheels otherwise, wasnt there when I u-turned to see if it was on the road, only dented my number plate lol.

i was driving up my road once, and saw this plastic bag on the road. at about 80ks. then i got closer and it was a cat. too close to slow down or swerve for a cat. and then at the last second, i saw it was an owl :( i stopped and got out. had a look at it, poked it in the wing, and it gave me a funny look, then flew off. almost got a roo once, driving out west. 120kph, jumped on the brakes, pulled up and i could see a clear square of light on the roos ass. i reckon the headlight touched it. so lucky.

Talking about roos, i managed to hit one just the other month, doing around 100-110kmh. Clipped the damn thing just as it went for that last jump, it landed on the bonnet squashing the drivers headlight quite nicely, denting the front quarter panel and then had the nerve to bash it's head on my roof as it went over!! bugger left a nice dent right above my head! scared the crap out of me, all happened in what seemed like 2 seconds!

I've hit more roo's than i'd like to remember, worst was coming down from Port Hedland back in 75, was at about 3 in the morning driving my mates 3 week old TC Cortina, he was sleeping in the back & the stupid bint we were giving a lift to was trying to fill a gas cigarette lighter, could'nt do it so I grabbed it & started filling it, looked up at the road & there was this 6 foot boomer, they make a real mess at 130kph, luckily the car was towable so I spent the next 3 hours behind a drunken truck driver on a 20 foot chain getting lurched all over the place, punishment I suppose, when we got to Carnarvon there were no radiators available so I then had to spend about 5 hours sitting in the car on the back of another truck till we got to Geraldton. Ah the good old days.

110km/h into a 40kg Doberman....dead of night & the silly bugger tried running across the highway in a rural area, saw him *just* as he got into the headlight beam sprinting from left to right.....didn't even have time to lift off before I hit him square in the middle....didn't kill him but he needed to be put down....broken back, hips, jaw, etc, etc, etc.....can't say I've ever heard a dog scream before that night and I don't ever want to hear it again.... :(

We hit a big wombat about a month ago when my mate and i were out pigging, he was a big bastard,
we came around this sharp bend on a dirt road and he was just standing there, didnt move an inch,
hit him with the front right wheel, at about 60km/h felt like hitting a bloody big rock, there solid bastards.

no other animals will eat wombats as theere skin and flesh is too tough, heeps of dead wombats out west near Walcha.

i guess were lucky Hilux's are tough :D

ohh and we have run over an Echidna in my suby, was like a speedhump.

ohh I have the best one here. just remembered it when a horse came up lol. so an old mate from work was cruising up the road to work one foggy dark morning I usually do 100 on there I guess he would have been doing 80......BAM!!! hits a horse AND a donkey in his ute. wasnt a good looking ute after that with the engine in the drivers seat and all. from memory im pretty sure the donkey did a double front flip over the ute perfect 10 point landing onto the tray as the car crashed off the road, then went on his merry way lol.

Heh... one afternoon I was cruising out to my parents place out in the sticks, doing about 110, when this cloud of sparrows decides to fly accross the road... I swear it was one of the funniest/nastiest things I've seen - I could hear all these little bodies going thunk thunk thunk thunk and then see them rolling off the back and on the road, just little balls of feathers...

Damn suicidal birds...

EDIT: oh, and speaking of birds, was driving the ex-gf's 4runner accross the states and hit some little bird in atlanta, had a look and he was sticking out of the lower grille, waay back, so I couldn't be bothered pulling him out... well, he was still there when we got to los angeles, and I believe he was still there when they got back to new york! thats one very well travelled dead bird...

I cleaned up a rabbit a few weeks ago while heading back from Budgewoi, stupid thing ran straight out infront of the car and felt the wrath of the front right and rear right wheels and the 4WD wheel on the trailer I was towing...I didn't bother stopping.

I killed my 99 rex (good!) by landing on a big forester kangaroo.

Doing just on the old ton (160kmh) on the Lyell Hway going to Strahan.

Full whack, wheels just chirping as I crested a hill.

Pushed drivers side wheel back 25mm.
AC into Radiator into fan into timing belt covers.

Airbag deployment

Very crooked indeed, $12K damage.

Thus I have created a wildlife proof vehicle.

Brings to mind another incident, this time on my way back to Port Hedland (we used to knock off work on a Fri afternoon, drive 16 hours, sleep for a while, do the lap in the city, sleep for a while & drive 16 hrs back ready for work on Mon, earning way too much as an 18yo)in my 302 Worked XT Fairmont, we'd been sitting on about 140 - 160kph & saw a flock of sheep crossing the road, being young & stupid I decided to slow down to about 5kph & give them a nudge, well after traveling at those speeds, what feels like 5kph is actually about 25kph, car jumped about 4 feet up in the air & stalled, sheep "rolling" every which way, we got out to inspect the damage to find nothing but a sheeps foot hanging out of my brand new Hotwire mags (reason for trip to perth) then about 50k's up the road we spot a roo sitting on the side of the road, stupid me decides to slow down & chase it, got about 50m up the road & the bloody thing decides to do a 90deg r/h turn & jumps straight across my newly painted bonnet leaving some nice big scratch marks on the way........hate roo's

I managed to hit a kangaroo five days after I bought my first car. stupid thing jumped out in front of my mini when I was doin 70kph. I hit the brake but it didnt help. smashed entire front right in about 5 inchs. twisted subframe. then spun me around going backwards where my car tried to 50-50 grind a fallen tree. exciting stuff. kangaroo wasnt in the best shape so had to help the little fella off to kangaroo heaven with a big stick.

^^^ a gun would've been a better option... bludgeoning a dying animal is cruel and inhumane.

Lethal injection would've been even better.......but I suspect that Sti wagon had neither a syringe or gun in his mini......

Will have some pics up tomorrow after i take my front bumper off to test fit a front mount. It looks a bit sketchy bhind. Hopefully nothing too bad. They are some pretty amazing stories. Its amazing how some cars get writen off and other get away with almost nothing.
Im just glad i can still drive it.
