I will be looking to buy a new turbo very very soon, I will be getting a GT35R with 0.82 turbine housing. Can anyone point me to where they have found the cheapest turbos for sale. I tried GCG and hp in a box and they both seem a bit much. They want 2000 for the snail, and 600 for the wastegate. I have been told I should be able to get them for 1700 and 300 respectively.
Also, how do I choose what wastegate to get? I was looking at tial, and they make a 38mm and a 44mm external gate. I dont know which one to get and what the difference is? Can you change the spring in them? Anyone got a tech link?
Cheers,
Chris

Ebay.
What size motor are you building?

Why not get a Forced Performance "red" turbo? Similar whp as 35R, but much better spoolup and torque.

The motor will be a 2.5, but people are trying to convince me to do 2.35. At the moment, and for about another 3 months, the car will just be a 2L, until the new motor is done. As yet, it is only at pricing stage, so I can still change my mind.
Raz put me onto the FPred, but they have to come all the way from the states, with about a 3 week wait. Mine has blown and I want something to put on now. There is only a 3 day wait on the 35R.
this graph looks promising though, and it may be worth the wait:

mark, you are using the FPred aren't you? Any one else? Can you only get it internally gated? Does it have to be high mounted? And if so, will I still need a custom up pipe and custom dump? Any pics of one mounted into an RS?

I was set on a FP Red, but have also considered a GT35/40R
The graph above does make the FPred more tempting, considering how much easier it is to fit.
-internal gate
-subaru up pipe flange pattern = bolts to stock up pipe
-looks like a stock turbo when fitted
VS Garrett
-custom up pipe and dump pipe plus need for external gate
-stands out like dogs balls in engine bay
-only outperforms FP Red right at top end
If I get the FP Red I will be using a later model intake manifold (97 GTB) to allow for straight entry air intake, so I'm pretty sure it will be a straight forward bolt in.

What are your thoughts on either being put on a 2L for about 3 months? Would it be unbearably laggy. I would be ok with 5000rpm until boost for only a few months.
Are you saying that the FP red uses stock up pipe? What about dump pipe?
I looked at ATP turbo for the tial gates. They have the 44mm one for only AU$490 I assume delivery is on top of that. Which is about 200 less than anyone in Aus
Also mark, was wondering where you got your headers from? And what diameter the final pipe that bolts to the up pipe is. What type of flange is on this end?

The FP red is a direct replacement on subaru`s.
About lag.

hey chris give MTQ Engine Systems a try very good prices ,they were the cheapest i found for garret gear when building my drift car ,i got a garret gt35r0.8 for around $1295 (internal gate) and the best price i got anywhere else was $1570 great to deal with also ,only downside to you is they are in perth but if you need something i can organise collection and freight to you if you like ps try nengun for tial wastegates the yen is very strong at the mo, so you get good deals

Thanks for that link legacy_turbo, I have just registered with nasioc, but they are taking til the cows come home to send me an activation email. Thats great, I want an FP green, fkn spool monster!!! but nah, will stick with the gt35R
Thanks for the tip troy. Are you serious with those prices??? Are you sure you got an internal gate garrett gt35R? Was it 0.8A/R on the compressor, not the turbine? The standard one is 0.7AR on the comp, and I have found it for 1750 and thats the best so far :(

My suggestions for what they're worth (garrett suggestions only):
2L street: GT2871 (disco potato stylz) 400hp
2.5L street: GT3076 450hp
2.5L race/3L street: GT3582 500hp
2.5 drag/3L race : GT4088 600hp
3L drag: GT4202 750hp
Insane: GT4508 1000hp+ :D

The 4088 on a 2.5 is just plain stupid. TOMO and evade have proven that a 3582 works well on a 2.5, which within due time, will be what the turbo is pushing.
So you are going 4508 then az??? :D
Anyone know what the standard turbine inlet flange is on a subaru VF? Which one flows best? Is the T3 good enough?

Troy,
Are you sure it only cost you $1300? I called them today and they said 2075, the same price as everyone else. How long ago did you buy yours? Got a contact? :D:D
Thanks,
Chris

round up all the line boys tank. We need about 10 before we can get any decent savings. When we get up the numbers, I would contact tuneagent, as they have the best prices I have seen, $1750 delivered for a gt35r. Smaller ones are cheaper. They also sell tial gates, but atm dont have any in stock.
For now I will have to live with a pov pack td05-20G :P

Iam sure correct me if iam wrong the 0.82 GT35/40 only comes

I have seen the 0.63 with internal gate but not anything above that.

I have found my best price to date: One of the pipe fabricators I went to today can get them from GCG for 1550 delivered. Thats awesome. Too bad he or anyone else cannot make up the up pipe and dump pipe for another 2 months. biznatches!!1!!oneshift7
Thanks for all your help guys, I think I found the cheapest prices of everything I could get with the links you all gave me. Will have to come back to this thread in a couple of months when I can get some pipes made up. :(
