(seats here waiting for new pic's with rims on etc) still an't seen you driving around & u only live around the bend lol i never knew u would buy a lib, atleast u went for a newer model anymore plans for it?
smoov
15th February 2007, 08:58 PM
Yeah, Chrome wheels had to come off. I was over them all together. I only took them as they had decent tread...
I haven't seen yours or your missus' cars around neither, and I am literally around the bend..
Lib? What lib??? ;)
Plans: Fit wheels (still deciding whether to paint darker or not), few tweaks here and there, hoping for about 160-170kw atw, get the thing to handle like the beemer did, and enjoy it.
Marv
15th February 2007, 09:08 PM
At the moment Alex, I'm saying leave them unpainted for a while and see what you think until after you've had them mounted up and on the car for a while.
Photoshop will be your friend, I reckon ;)

Although it seems to be sitting a little high ;)
Did you powdercoat the wheels?
smoov

Thanks for the positive feedback guys!
Wheels I got for a reasonable price. They are genuine Enkei STi wheels, not the ebay knock-offs that are currently selling on eBay.
Jaz - That chop alone is enough convincing!! I'll get to it!
The nuts are also worthy of a mention: They're aluminum TurboXs ones (http://www.turboxs.com.au/product.php?id=49), Black anodised. At 17g each, each nut of the 20 is a locknut, a strange triangular shaped pattern. I bought them from Unique Autosports (at Seven Hills) for $90.00, although the TurboXs site lists them as $120!
Now for some bushes..

cant be serious........... they do look good though, might get a set for the 18s.

Al - They're the Liberty STi Wheels. +55 offset. I originally got them in a silver finish, but against all efforts for me not to, I've decided to have them professionally painted.
Funny story with the colour too. I walked into the paint shop, told them I'm painting a set of wheels for my subaru, and I wanted a "charcoal" colour. Guy tells me to hang on a second.
He walks out from the back in two minutes, and brings out a sample of the colour you see. Apparently a near black/dark charcoal, with heaps of metallic in it. Looks tits. Got them painted professionally, and the paint is an almost match with centre cap!
Cheers yukky :)

how much did the TMIC set you back?
$180 from Just Jap in Kirawee. I couldn't justify spending around that for a second hand one at a wrecker. This one works a little better than the OEM one, but there was some minor dicking around with the BOV. Spent more on the BOV than I did on the TMIC! Does the job, and I'm happy with it for now.
6000k Make much difference?
Yes, they did. A lot, actually. Works brilliantly with the Projectors. No scatter at all in the light pattern. If anyone is after a cheap set of good HID's, in most sizes, and most colours, PM me, and I could point you in the right direction. (~$170)

Thanks guys.
For now, I think I'll put off increasing any more power. Now that I have decent tyres, and lightweight wheels, I think I may put more improvement into the handling department. I have high expectations, as my previous car was a joy to punt through the hills. Using benchmarks like Paddo's old wagon (OMG did that handle!) and Reggy's freak, I think I may get mine to handle almost as good as theirs!

All you need to know is this... its bloody good!
I recommend anyone with the projector headlights, to fit HID's. 6000K is a teeny weeny slight bit of a blue tinge, but I've seen factory fitted HID's that looked more blue.
Pics as requested (note - no flash)

This picture was taken with my hand on the camera out of the driver's side window.
http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/4508/dsc00282smallvd3.jpg
this image was taken with the camera resting on the dash, through the windshield. Windshield is a little dirty, but I think you do get an idea as to the characteristics of the lighting beam.
One thing to note though, I needed to adjust the beam something severe when I first fitted the HIDs. They were pointing high up into the trees. Definitely shedloads more light is emitted from the HIDs.
Now... to find an adequate solution for the high beam... the latest autosalon magazine has a rather comprehensive guide to globes....:D
I'll be upgrading the foglights soon also.....;)
cheers

Not in the high beam. HID's don't like to be flashed on and off, and they also have an "ignition sequence" before they're illuminated at maximum brightness.
at the moment, looks kinda funny when high beaming...the low beam is brighter than the high beam.... :P
If you want, I can help organise you decent HID's for 170 bucks... :D

Small little mod of late, that would interest some Gen2'ers...
I ordered a new gearboot from http://www.redlinegoods.com
I ordered it on the 17th of May, it was made from scratch, sent from Poland, and arrived on the 28th May - 11 days!! Not bad at all!
Nice fit and finish. Extremely high quality. And the smell of fresh Italian leather now fills the cabin.
Looks good. I'll have to have a fiddle with it to get it to sit nice. The vinyl one just hung there, looked unexciting. The leather one now adds a touch of class to whats essentially a bland Japanese interior.
Pics:

Sad looking original. New gearknob courtesy to Mickey.
http://img184.imageshack.us/img184/8476/newvsoldjpgox9.jpg
New vs Old. The retaining ring was glued onto the old vinyl boot, and was a bit of a challenge to remove off the old boot.
http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/9366/gearboot28thmay2007006snp7.jpg
Hit it up with some of the good shizzlenit, Renapur.
http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/8872/gearboot28thmay2007009shq9.jpg
After installation, here's the finished product.
I highly recommend this to anyone contemplating replacing the gear boot, even if its for an OEM. Cost was $60 posted. Subaru wanted about $70 odd for a vinyl OEM one, which is currently a 6 week wait from Japan, as there is none in Australia ATM.
Click here for the Gen2 Listing (http://www.redlinegoods.com/Legacy9599shiftboot.shtm), and Click here for installation instructions (http://www.redlinegoods.com/Legacy9599install.shtm)

Blowing the dust off this thread...with some new mods of late:
Walbro GSS341 255L/min Fuel pump. Might need to readjust it soon, as I'm only getting 350km out of a tank before the light goes on. No biggy.
Nolathane bush kit front and rear, is in. Front kit went in like a dream. Rear didn't. So its a hybrid bastardisation up back using nolathane, super-pro and noltec bushes. Its all been replaced. Rear diff cradle bushes are the only ones remain. Also, the whiteline Anti Lift Kit, and steering rack bushes went in no dramas. A big thanks go to RSTurbo (Tim) for the sweet hookups. The remaining bushes that didn't fit, I'll eventually flog off on rexnet, as I'm sure they'll fit on a WRX. NVH is a little increased, but I'm used to it. Actually, I'm liking it - handling has improved a lot, and I now have a better feel of the road, as response and feel is much more sharp :)

Speaking of the powers of suggestion, Damian - My Girlfriend suggested that I get matching silicone hoses for the radiator, whilst I was emailing you. (p.s: what colour hoses did they end up being? blue? not that it matters terribly much....!)
Well, tonight, the top radiator hose went bye bye. :( 1000mph tape was my saviour! managed to limp it home, was only 5km away.
Off to autobarn tomorrow....
Anyways, I've been meaning to tidy it up a bit under my bonnet, because it looks a bit grotty, especially with the messy hood liner. Once I've fiddled with hoses, I may even give her a bit of a clean under the bonnet, and I'll take some better pics of those struts.

Try punching in the part number (Part Number: 403-A970 Mechanical Boost PSI Black ) into the US ebay, and you may yield a result... mine ended up costing about AU$200 to my door (after four days, mind you!) Shipping was about $65 to Australia.
Remember... these are a USA specific item in PSI. If you want them in KPA, get them from Japan. If you want PSI...USA!

This year has been a bad one for me, as some of you may already know, and consequently, the development of my Legacy wagon has somewhat suffered.
But fear not.

Was fiddling with the car today. Fitted the Zerosports TT Controller.
It works well, but personally, I don't like the way it works on my car. It'll be coming off soon, and will be for sale (hai Mickey!) I like my changeover savage, whereas this makes the changeover more subtle.
I also got around to fitting a GFB MBC onto her, totally bypassing the factory boost control. Hello 20psi! (no boost cut!!) :P
Seriously though, I've wound it down, and I have found gains all round the rev range. She boosts better, stronger from lower down, and has further reduced the VOD :) VOD is now merely the slightest of hesitations. I think I've pretty much got it as good as she can get for a TT :D
And that'll be it for now, apart from some coilovers and some new speakers. My priorities will be shifting elsewhere in the not too distant future.

Will give you a bell next time im in e ping. Car still looking mint, love it. All the best for the priority shift :D

New spare wheel that clears Brembos.
After relentless searching around wrecking yards in Australia and abroad, I decided to bite the bullet and buy through Subaru Australia. Wheel was ordered through Subaru for around the $200 mark, and a two week wait just before Christmas, but I had to source the tyre separately. Bridgestone wanted something along the lines of $250-$280 for a 135/70/17 space saver spare.
Then a friend put me onto a wrecking yard out South West Sydney way. They had more space savers than you can poke a stick at. Managed to pick up the wheel with a new tyre for a $100, and got the tyre swapped over. Only catch was that the tyre bought was a 140/70/17. No biggy, I reckon.

Nick - Yeah, I'm a wee bit picky :P
Wheels were painted a two-pac. Funny story, walked into a paint shop, told them I had STi Wheels, and wanted a charcoal metallic colour. Guy walked out the back, and came back 10 minutes later with the mix it has now. Charcoal metallic, with a gold metallic flake in it. I love it. Paintshop is:

Guys. I'm on limited data here. And I can't upload decent pics just yet, but all I can say is "wow". The thing is a monster! A little loud, but I'll be addressing that when I return to Sydney. It's so nice having boost on hand when you need it. No VOD, obviously, just makes the driving experience so much better. Geach said it well when at changeover (4k rpm) is when you should be pulling like a freight train, not changing over turbos. Al and Miles have done a fantastic job with the car, and I'm absolutely elated. Sure a few things didn't get done due to a lack of time, but they're little things I can do, back at home in Sydney.
It was great to finally meet Al and Miles face to face, and their services are nothing short of highly professional. They run a tight ship, and the work is just magic. I was lucky enough to see a couple of their conversions, and bloody hell, it's jaw dropping!
I'll write more and upload some pics when I'm back in Brisbane (tomorrow). Man I love Noosa. Wish I could stay up here! Al wasn't wrong when he said this is "Gods Country"!!

After my trip up to Noosa to see Al & Miles, I got my wagon converted to single turbo, and had a few other things done too.
Front mount intercooler + piping to suit in stainless steel
Single turbo conversion including V3 STi ECU repin
Twisted APS SR30 (Garrett GT2860R)
3" Bellmouth dump (Six speed ready) in Stainless steer
3" Exhaust including catalytic converter and resonator stainless steel
Parallel fuel rail conversion using SARD Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator
SARD High Volume fuel pump
Installation of Phenolic Manifold spacers
and probably other stuff I've forgotten to mention.
My shout outs:
Big thanks to:
Frank, for the photos and the night out tonight.
Stavros, for letting me crash at his place for a couple nights in Brisbane.
Jarrod, for letting me crash at his pad for a couple on the Gold Coast.
The above three get a special mention for force feeding me the world's hottest burger!!
