View Full Version : My RS wagon

It all began 4 years ago when I found the car in Victor Harbour. It was totally stock and had just had a new radiator and Legacy motor put in it. It had not been treated particularly well by its previous owners so I set about righting the wrongs... and there were many.

Top notch! This car has come a long way (especially since you upgraded it from you EA82T wagon)!

LOL! my L is still in adelaide and afaik the new owner loves it.
the RS will have a 'wagon wing' and new front bumper skin by the end of the week. the current skin got mangled with the old FMIC pipe setup.
see hendo's car for an old pic of my car, pre 17's, paint, coilovers and inverted fmic.

the car has come along way from what i've seen, you've done a top job.
Geach
15th February 2007, 05:07 PM
well - the gearbox case is the original - inside it has MY01 WRX 1st/2nd (30k old when they were installed), MY99 WRX 3rd/4th (new), GT foz 5th (0.738) with NA lib 4.11 diffs. the 1:1 gears were probably from the foz too.
custom enough for yah?
oh and the reverse idler has been machined down to fit because late gears in early cases don't line up properly due to wider gears/twin syncros.
can't forget the 'custom' :D plates [RST 092] - all for $71, thanks Transport SA.

mud flaps were a bit fugged and the paint shop guy didn't think the paint would stick too well. they were in a box with my reo bolts.... seem to have disappeared when i moved house...?
the line looks cleaner without them i reckon.

Very nice Geachy. Good to see you out on the track there mate. How hard did you have the coilovers set up? There is still a bit of body roll there ey, I'd hate to see how much there would be with my car lol
Geach

There is still a bit of body roll there ey, um i guess?
they were set at maximum attack. you realise coilovers aren't going to completely eliminate body roll by themselves - nor would you expect or want them to. as i understand it that's what swaybars/braces/etc are for. i have a h/d adj rear s/b with h/d links, the front s/b is OEM and all the bushes are shagged. its on the to do list. i'm going to buy h/d links and replace the body to s/b bushes and see how it feels.

small update:
the wagon is now packing a LinkG3 and 440's - running about 20-21psi through the midrange. needs more though. an EJ22 build beckons - got heads, block and rods at the moment. aiming to have the long motor ready in the new year.
Also added whiteline extra heavy duty alloy front and rear swaybar links. replaced the front sway/chassis bushes too. tightened up the handling at speed, nose sits flatter through corners. very happy with them

lol at the grass. put that one up just for you :P
black rims.... i don't think it'd look right on a rim with round edge spokes that intergrate smootly into to rim, if you know what i mean? black on squared off spokes/rims looks better to me.
i'm thinking TE37/Advan RG time attack stylz.... might have to wait until after i get back from europe though.
i've long held the belief that the best looking car/rim combo's have rims that are a big contrast to the body colour - eg nathan's charcoal with white TE37's. HAWT!!!!! or the blue evo VI in SPEED with white Advan's.
just my opinion though.

Thanks for the shot geach, it looks shmicko.
However, is your car sitting higher than it used to? It could just be the angle of the shot taken, but I could've sworn your tyres were about 10mm up into the guard, or at least level with it.

what like, ebony and ivory? i like that idea. Maybe when we have twin CD2.2's under the bonnets?
The best thing about those rims on your car is the fact that there looks to be a bee's dick in clearance between the rim and rotor (diam).... = tuff.
I think it would be cool if you could stretch the rims like in Need For Speed and make them 19's... i would then proceed to dry orgasm.

I'm going to step out on a limb here and say that as hot as the new rims look, I liked the old B4 rims better. But that is my personal opinion.
As for brake clearance however, I agree with Jake, in that minimal brake clearance looks tuff as!
How far off is the 2.2 to being completed Geachy?

the motor will be finished in the new year. mark's picking it up for me shortly, then its just a case of strapping some GTB heads on it along with the essentials like oil and water pumps, as well as a belt or two. i've got a sump lying around here along with some ARP headstuds.
so really there's not a lot holding me back from getting a long motor together. i just need to decide how much further i want to take it and that comes down to how much coin i feel like throwing at it!

well, for the first time since i've owned it my AC holds gas and is working well... in summer too :P haven't really worried about it before now because i drive it on weekends.
in the last 12 months its had a new evaporator (out of a wreck), new O rings all round and new TX valve. had some small issue with the compressor not turning on - turned out i needed a digital input enabled in the Link.
nath, i didn't have stickers with the wheels, hadn't really thought about it... where would you get them?

Custom made FMIC kit Geach? I'm thinking of going down the front mount route soon and want to use a gen2 airbox and I have ABS like yourself...
The wags looks good as ever!
Cheers
PS you list legacy taillights in the spec, but the RH light still has the red bottom section a la Aus-Spec

Sounds good, mental note made.
Ha I thought there may have been some sort of trickery going on there. I'm sure they make it look that much more even in the ar5e. Everyone seems to clear the orange bits, but I'm still not convinced that they look too bad.
Keep up the good work anyway, one of these days my car will be clean enough to be able to have its own club rides section.

I took the dash out on wednesday night, started out chasing an issue with the aircon related to the Link, then found a few more jobs. I replaced the crash pad with a much much better one I purchased last year.

no more dash mat for me. :)
I also rewired/shortened my stereo loom and put in a relay to prevent the link turning on my fans with accessories.

My Haltech does that too, do you know why they're wired like that?

My Haltech does that too, do you know why they're wired like that?no, i don't understand it at all. Link tried to get around it in the adaptalink board by cutting a track, but it didn't work.
i guess it grounds the fan signal wire through the ECU regardless of the ignition position and power is supplied to the fans from the word go?
Al's idea to use a relay to cut the fan signal wire until the ignition is on worked perfectly.

when i was building the motor billsy welded up a new crossover and up pipe for me. we used the original flanges for the cross over and i had new ones made up using a CNC for the up pipe.
cross over is 1.75" and the up pipe is 2". i heat rapped them both and ported the legacy collectors to match the heads.
