belkin wireless pci card (modified to fit case)
a carpc enclosure (that will be hidden eventually in the boot)
bu-353 usb gps reciever
ebay spec usb bluetooth adapter
screen is a ebay 8" touch screen running 800x600
software wise im running windows xp with road runner front end.

Staggs, how is the lcd? are you able to see it properly in that location?
Staggs

hey, yer the lcd is easily viewable from the drivers seat, that photo above pretty much shows it from the drivers seat angle. my only issue i have found is in direct sunlight its a bitch.
also the screen is very bright at night, almost like having an interior light turned on in your car. i have fixed this by installing a switch in the centre console which turns it off when
ever i want. and the touch screen itself still works with the screen off so i can still adjust the volume and click it to the next song if i want because the volume and track buttons on the screen are along the very bottom.

Wow that looks great! Was that hard to do? If my screen doesn't sell i might do that, although I would have to ditch my headunit.

I couldn't resist, I went out to my car and measured it all up, and yes it does fit perfectly behind the stock dash trim, but you would have to take off the back of the screen, and maybe remove the mounts for the metal case that usually holds the head unit (i have no idea whats its called)

yer its not an easy fit, but if your brave enough to cut the crap outa your dash it does fit...just. i think i spent about 3hrs sitting there with a hacksaw, sharp blade and some side cutters to remove enough plastic to make it fit, then had to make some custom brakets and modify the old headunit bracket to hold all the circutry for the screen. and i lost teh buttons that from the front of the screen. they are now in a little jaycar hobby box thingo in the glovebox.
if i wanted to put a headunit back in the car i would need a whole new centre section of the dash. as there is now way its goin back to factory now.
but im sorta over the carpc now, and am saving up for a conversion, which if i can save enough should be about january next year.

Damn i dont want to cut into my dash so I can take it out again to sell the car. What software do you use on your car pc?
Staggs
5th August 2008, 02:10 PM
i just use windows xp with roadrunner front end software, works well enough i find

That looks pretty cool. I may use that untill I finish programming my custom one. So far it only plays music but its getting there.

the car in its current state
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b326/Staggs/DSC00761.jpg
currently pulling all the stereo, amps, carpc, screen, dash and crap out and sticking my old cd player back in with a new dash carved up dash and then selling the car off in the near future to get something newer and faster.
reason im pulling the dash out, was because in order to fit the screen i had in there i had to do alot of cutting and removing of plastic to make it fit. and now im trying to return the car to a more normal state i couldnt use the old dash. plus the old dash was faded like buggery and my brother had carved his name in it one fateful night. so its getting replaced.

oh damn i got all excited thinking it was another conversion in the making haha :P
Staggs
29th September 2008, 04:52 PM
i was gonna convert it, that was the plan for the last 3 years. but now ive started to realise the money i would spend converting it and then modifying it further could be spent on a much newer car that would go just aswell but be alot newer, less km's, and have less issues.
