Not much jarrod waiting on the important stuff to come , ie engine, coil overs, cv shafts and a quote from a panel beater.
Minimal stuff done, engines running as best as can be expected , solved misfiring issues, got rid of pod .. blah bla. January holidays should have alot more progress and pics.
Cant believe your sellin the wags... youll be back

Karl, go down to 1/4 Canterbury Rd Braeside to a place called DBJ Chemicals. Buy 4l can of Engine & Parts Degresser. Its about $20-25 cash from memory. Put it in a spray bottle and clean out that bay...this stuff is way stronger than the pressure pack or the concentrate you can buy from Repco etc...

Karl
24th August 2008, 08:45 PM
Couldn't get to it, had to work and was fiddling around with sh*** passenger side rails. Thinking i might get the car cleaned up and resprayed before engine goes in as well.
On a good note though block is pretty much finito, just needs the headers on. Lined up a turbo too which has been proven to make a pretty nice figure, so i'm hoping he holds it for me.

Karl
2nd November 2008, 06:45 PM
No real updates to speak of Jarrod, just doing little things to the get the car rolling and ready for engine and gearbox to be put in. Then It has to go to AVO for twist mount , exhaust a few other bits.
Just alot of messing around at the moment trying to get my Diff, shafts and some wheels organized (because some cnut bought STI rims at rampant around the same time i needed them. You know who you are.). Cars suck.

Umm incase you didnt realise that was my motor (see post I made above)....just an RS block (closed deck) with WRX heads. I chose the RS cam gears as they were metal not plastic like the WRX ones I got with the heads Hodgey. So in fact the heads are not sh1t. Unless that makes everyone with WRX heads on their rebuilt motors sh1t then...

PWNED by RSLC.
When will you learn?
There is no love for some.
Was that the motor that was rebuilt to stock specs with dollars tha could have produced something that performed alot better?

They're only early WRX heads, which are only marginally better than RS heads, IMHO. However, 97/98 GTb, STi and WRX solid lifter heads are much better. I for one would never rebuild a motor with early WRX heads, as for not much more you can get 98 WRX heads which are a fair step better.
But this is not a thread about your motor Jarrod, it is about Karl's monster 2.5. Go you good thing!

Maybe you should learn to read...Im not going to hijack Karls thread into a sh1t fight with you as there is no point.
But as far as I know something that started with RS heads and RS pistons and ended up with WRX heads and WRX pistons/cams is not a stock rebuild.
As for performance...no one on here went in it when it was running at its best so no one can comment on what it performed like.

Hodge I am aware of who the thread is for. I wont get into massive detail about my motor, I used what was available at the time and at my budget. Remember that motor ws built over two years ago and parts went as cheap as they are now.
The picture was a demonstration of how clean a new motor is and should look...well thats what Im expecting Karls to look like. Now back to Karls updates.

Im not going to hijack Karls thread. But you have anyway
But as far as I know something that started with RS heads and RS pistons and ended up with WRX heads and WRX pistons/cams is not a stock rebuild.Pretty much a Subaru recall build of an RS. Hardly a performance build
As for performance...no one on here went in it when it was running at its best so no one can comment on what it performed like.I cant think of too many members here that would want to be in the same car as you.

Remember that motor ws built over two years ago and parts went as cheap as they are now. From what Ive heard you could have had a very good performance build for not a great deal more.
But you wanted to keep the same engine block number and were on a budget, hence why you didnt get Phil Lowe to build your factory recall spec motor
The picture was a demonstration of how clean a new motor is and should look...well thats what Im expecting Karls to look like. Now back to Karls updates.Stop stalking Karl asking for updates, he'll post them when he has them.

Pretty much a Subaru recall build of an RS. Hardly a performance build
Which is basically what I wanted. Something new not over the top. Why risk $1000 on an import with no history and only the kms the wrecker says? Blows up and Im up for another engine at $1000 or a rebuild.
If I had the money and wanted some horsepower hero engine I would have built it. But could I justify it for what it needed to get there...no I couldnt. And I wasnt going to borrow money to off the bank to get it there.
I cant think of too many members here that would want to be in the same car as you.
Well from where I sit some feel the sameway about you.
From what Ive heard you could have had a very good performance build for not a great deal more.
But you wanted to keep the same engine block number and were on a budget, hence why you didnt get Phil Lowe to build your factory recall spec motor
You wernt even a member when I built that engine so all you have is hearsay...passed on from person to person to person and what is written in a thread 2yrs old. That engine was well and capable of making good power if I wanted it to. Injectors, bigger turbo, air intake etc is all it would have taken.
But Im sure in stalking and sussing out on here in threads and from members everything that I have done is some sort of pleasure to yourself. Like I said you were never in that RS so you have no right to comment on the performance. If you were then I would have no argument for your opinions of it. But you wernt.
hence why you didnt get Phil Lowe to build your factory recall spec motor
Oh its funny that you mention Phil Lowe. As he and I use the same engine builder/workshop. So if they are qualified to machine is engines/heads/cranks etc for a 600hp Wrx and balance tailshafts for 5 or 6 v8 supercar teams, I think they are quite qualified to build my engines any day.
And that is all I have to say on that matter. Its long and gone. If you have anything else to say about it take it up via PM Darren like the admin will say. Leave this thread to Karl. As it is about his RS. Not yours, not mine not what we have done in the past/present or future.
GL with the build Karl I cant wait to see this thing finally hit the road. After all you did outbid me on eBay for it didnt you :P
