G'day guys,
As some of you maybe aware, I've recently inherited a black GT. My previous ride was a silver B4.
With my previous ride, it was easy to keep clean and looking schmick without too much trouble however, the black GT so far has been a real prick to keep clean (especially make it look "good" clean, if you know what I meaaan!)
For all you guys with black cars... how do you keep your cars clean and swirl free? Any particular products or techniques that you use?
The other question to pose, is Meguiars or Mothers polish/wax system? Which one is better and why? I've been using Mothers... but am questioning the quality now from my own experience and especially after watching the guides on the Meguiars website...
Any thoughts would be great!
Cheers,
David

I don't own a black car, but I DO know that Poor Boys products leaves Meguiars and Mothers for dead. Looks cheap and sh*tty, but it's awesome stuff.
Find it on www.waxit.com.au

Simple answer... you can't!
Wash it or paint it :P

there are lots of different techniques, etc. but make sure you always wash your car in the cool shade. the swirl marks are common, but you can get rid of them by a good polish. i use Glare Professional polish, but haven't polished my black gen4 yet.

Having owned a black taxi for a couple of years about your only option is to wash it every day, keep people away from it, keep it in the garage or.........get rid of it. It's got me stuffed why it's become so popular, especially in Australia with all the dust & heat.

You've gotta love (washing) it to keep it looking good. Don't expect it to look clean after a day though, two if your lucky. Mine even gets dirty in my shed!

I don't expect it to be clean all the time without putting work into it.
However, it seems that each time I wash it... it feels as though the wax comes off it and the paint feel "rough" again...

wrong....
doesnt matter if you use megs, menzerna or PB, its the prep that makes the look.
people use certain brands, simply because some work better with certain paints or are better suited to the persons technique etc.

Best thing I found to get my paintwork smooth was to use a "block" all over the car after I washed it. This block is like a big, cake of soap sized piece of blu tack. Wash your car with suds, then rinse. then get fresh suds and run the block over sections of the car at a time and rinse as you go. You can use it on your windows as well. This strips off all the crap on the paintwork. You then give it a good coat of polish. Smoooooooth.
Same stuff as this. http://www.meguiars.com.au/productdetail_2006.php?seq=126&category=PROFESSIONAL&subcat=Mirror%20Glaze&subsubcat=&show=2

clay bar, with lubricating spray, or car wash diluted with water...
make sure you use seperate bars for windows, paint and wheels.

how often is it reccomended that you clay-bar your car?
is it better to do it before or after polishing?
I have recently clay-bar'd my car. The results are breathtaking, to say the least!

you clay it before polishing...
you should only really need to do it once or twice a year depending how you maintain your cars paint...
ive only clayed my car once in the 1 and a half years of owning it, becasue i maintain it to stop contaminants sticking to the paint.

Black paint = learn to live with it or repaint it.

the best way to deal with your paint is 2 respray it silver..
otherwise get a buff, w9000 pad, w8000 pad and meguairs swirl remover. then use auto glym wax (ultra deep shine and super resin polish)
wax is going to always come off it when you wash it
