View Full Version : Had a dyno run today

Some interesting things with the TD05H-20G.
9 psi which crept to 12 psi netted 175 kw atw.
20 psi that dropped to 18 psi netted 205 kw atw.
23 psi that dropped to 21 psi netted 224 kw atw.
I am quite amazed at the boost change and the kw change... 8 psi change for 30 kw... then 3 psi change for another 20 kw....
Obviously some MPH at each setting will be more of an indication but still very consistent with the other Adelaide dyno. So the other interesting thing is that my previous tune was 225kw (roughly same boost) with STOCK dump, small FMIC. Timing hasn't been touched.
Which means the STOCK dump and small FMIC VS the AVO dump and massive FMIC has lost 1 kw (or really had no change) .... maybe when the turbine housing flow is improved and the heads ported and the cams changed we will see more...???!!!?!??!
The limit here is the TD05H 7cm^2 housing which is creating restriction and backpressure at high boost. So the 8m^2 housing is being bolted on Monday (from GT PUMPS) and will post the differences. (Had a good chat with him yesterday and he has confirmed this choke point issue which explains 12 psi making so much and 20+ psi struggling a bit.)
A VF34 / P20 netted 224 kw atw on 18 psi (2.5L) and is hitting the same choke point in the exhaust housing restriction...???!?!?!?!
Food for thought anyway.

well done , one of the higher atw readings ive ever seen! What mods are you running apart from FMIC and TD05?

What ECU you running??
And did you do each run quickly? (Heat soak issues)

HTF do you get 185kw at 12psi on a 2L?

i have a gtps01, just got an accurate boost gauge on her (broke a couple of them) she hits 14psi in fifth at 3000 rpm. what ecu you running bazza, im yet to get an ecu in her to get seom serious numbers on paper

HTF do you get 185kw at 12psi on a 2L?
Secret :P
Also no heat soak after a few runs (the FMIC is rather large and I have a few other bits which minimize the engine bay heat soak) ... if anything more power as the exhaust heats up :)
The ECU is a Microtech LT10S. I've got a wideband hooked up now so I am working out the cruise and mid throttle tuning to get it more efficient.
The mileage is getting quite good as well. 360 km for 42 L (11.6L / 100 km) and that was after the dyno runs this morning, the cruise with some of the SA boys this arvo and a cruise last night - READ lots of WOT and boost.

Sorry Chris, wrote down the wrong low boost figure... it was 175 kw atw... not 185 kw.

If you have money get autronic, haltech, if you have heaps of money get motec, if you have limited money get microtech :) Just make sure the AWD tuner in the area knows how to tune whatever you get. However the more I see and learn about the ECUTEK, the more I like.... cept tis quite hard to setup in a non-wrx but could be worth it.
I'll post up the graphs when the power side of things is complete (exhaust housing + maybe ported heads / cams and extractors) and I have some qtr mile times / mph's to see how things really compare, hopefully sooner than later.

how do you rate adaptronic....brownster was telling me about them when I went to look at his wags with my mate...apparently operated by a bloke who used to work for autronic

I've never actually used one so I am not sure.... I can't think of anyone off the top of my head who uses one.
I do know that AdrianVos loves his Haltech's and Raz / Mark love their Motec's so they might be able to help with those ECU good points etc.

Also quite impressed with the fuel economy you are squeezing out of her, must we getting close to a really good tune.

Is the exhaust wheel in your 20g back cut Bazza, or still stock?
Do you have a link to gtpumps, i could be really interested in the 8cm housing for my 20g too :)

The exhaust wheel is still the stock 1994 TD05H one (13 years old and still kickin) ...... I am hoping the 8cm housing will solve all issues :)
www.gtpumps.com.au from memory, Mark is very good to deal with... top fella.

mark from gtpumps is great to deal with. very helpful and delivery time was great. i just purchased a 20g comp wheel from him and the whole order took only 3 days from start to finish.

when i bought my gtps01 I needed to have the comp housing modified to twist it 180 degrees, needed lugs welded onto it for the wastegate relocation, he even gave me a spare turbo less the core to test fit to the car to get it all right.... then took the modded housing back to fit it for me same arvo service at no extra cost...highly recomend byuing off him again.

Geachy, I've just got ported and polished stock extractors all heatwrapped.
Mitch, I got the Walbro Hiflow 500 hp pump... the 250 lph verison.
Have been doing a lot of research (and speaking to a lot of professionals in the game and viewing a lot of dyno graphs) and the next issue will be cams and heads which probably won't happen (maybe a better up-pipe)... so I think realistically 230 kw atw might be the upper most limit I can safely achieve without going above 24 psi or getting a bigger turbo :) . From all the dyno plots I've seen people with the same turbo setup AND headers AND V5 STI heads are getting the same results already..??? .... so spending $800 for maybe 2 kw is not really a smart thing to do and the car needs some coilovers / suspension improvements so it can join Sam, Hendo and Geachy in the hillclimbs and chop Mark on the racetrack :P: :P :P :P :)

Will let you know how mine goes with the headers, am running 4 into 2 into 1 42mm ones on my car now.
Just working on the wiring at the moment, removing all wires i dont need and re doing the engine loom minus all the plugs not needed with the Link.

I've just whacked the 8cm^2 housing on this morning... and did some testing and took some video and the boost is going off the 20psi boost gauge scale at 3500 rpm.... so much for the 8 cm^2 making it laggy!?!?!?!
At 12 psi the engine was revving nicely to 8000 rpm ... booked into the dyno again tomorrow will see how she goes at the higher boost levels :)

Nice power figure by the way, much like mine except the number is much higher.
I'll have to come for another spin sometime.

I will have a major chubby if I can achieve that sort of full boost RPM. Very interested to see the final results especially with that new housing!! $380 FTW, hope your top end improves!!

24th April 2007, 12:09 PM
The final tune results are in:
175 kw @ 11 psi
210 kw @ 18 psi
232.3 kw @ 23 psi (still dropping to 21 psi)
So the 8cm^2 really has improved 11 psi and 18 psi.

Thats some nice power mate. Anything over 200kw below 20psi is a real acheivement as far as I'm concerned. Scary how much difference a good tune, bigger turbo, bigger injectors, and better cams will make. My car would struggle to make 150kw at 18psi with my TD05h haha
