In responce to brads broken gearbox, I thought fit to mention another broken bit of gear down here in tassie, some of you may have seen Rob's footage on the targa thread, and this is the end result:

Metal fragments...

Crownwheel... surprisingly no to badly fugged up..

Pinion...fugged!
http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u177/niggel_e/busted%20diff/100_0921.jpg
These were all inside the casing, metal bearing things... needless to say they are not where they are suppost to be.
All in all I am yet to fully determine the cause of this. All the teeth are still on the crownwheel, but there are metal parts literally pressed into the teeth on it. Looks kinda like it had metal fragments in it long before I got it, but can't be sure.
anyways happy viewing.. :D

Looks like Dr Deefa's diagnosis wasn't too far off.

Yeah nothing left going to the rear wheels, but on the way to being fixed.. I hope. Got to get in touch with JDS and see what they have to say for themselves.

Did you have to get it towed home? Sorry to see that you've only had the conversion on the road a short time and you already need major "upgrades".

I'd really take it up with JDS nige.
not only did you get a different cut to what you ordered (even though it was a better one) and they reckon they had it running?? (ovbiously didn't as when you hooked up the battery it popped all the fuses)
And now on top of that the diff is shagged and you could probably get a mechanic (brad) to look it over and say it was definitely shagged before it went in so they've sold you dodgy stuff.
Do they claim that all their parts are "checked" prior to delivery to the customer or it's luck of the draw??
anywho hope it get's sorted with as little pain as possible.
and here's the link to the horrible noises it made

Cheers mate, relativly new camera, but getting it working ok now. now I just need to learn how to drive my new phone as well.
And Rob, I have called JDS finally as I have called monday and tuesday and no one picked up. They are going to get back to me. the guy who I have been dealing with Blake wasn't there today, he seems to be a decent enough bloke, so hoping that he's helpful.

Cuising along on 15% throttle @ 120kph appears to do it... or in Brad's case a little slower and in third gear will do a box in. Moral of the story drive it nice and it brakes. flog it and it thrives. Don't quote me on that, but seems to be a trend

Niggel, that doesn't work for Rallyeee. I think he's going to diff #4 now...

hmm.. ok well that argument is shot, didn't think it would hold water for long. in that case no real good reason i can see for breakage, just one of those things i guess.

I was driving nicely when all my diffs broke, I swear. Unfortunately there's a disclaimer in the owner's manual that means I can't complain about them breaking:
"To violence against diffs Subaru says NO"

Amen to that.
I thinks Raz's car seaks for the other 50% of the argument :(
