well recently a purchased a nice looking rs-ra from down in sydney, went well, had plenty of power and sounded awsum. after about a month, some of the lifters smashed, dont know how but they did.
had a GTB engine put in, so had no car for like a month and wen i finally got the car on the road, it lasted a week, now this engine has died :(
a nice loud rattle coming from somewhere internal.
lucky the engine is under warranty, well i hope.
i had been taking it nice n easy of this car.
my last gx never died, dam turbos :P

Man that must really suck. That'd get a bit annoying. Where'd you get the engine from? Hope they're helpful with warranty.

engine was supplied by BMI in brisbane,

they would want to replace the engine, and id be speaking to the dept fair trading about labour costs teddy.

I would also entertain quite seriously that there's a direct cause for two engines dying in short succession. There may in fact be no luck element to it at all.

Yeh good point Jarrod, sounds like a good possibility.

Just not exactly what i needed to hear considering i've got a halfcut on the boat from them as we speek. But i do feel pretty confidence in the service and warranty i've been offered. They do seem very genuine.

But, back OT, good luck sorting it out with them tedman, please keep us updated.

Nick, Al has done how many conversions? You need to be a QLDer to have enough fingers and toes to count them, and most of his cuts are from BMI.
It does make you nervous though I will agree, it is a big investment.

Yeh yeh i know Jarrod, that's one of the main things that sold me on BMI, Al's recommendation. I'm not concerned with their quality or warranty. Dave even told me they'd rebuild it if there was low compression or similar problems so i'm fairly confident. I can't wait to get it out here all done... the wait is killing me.

But like you said, big investment and to see a GTB motor go within a month is a little disconcerting, would love to find out what was wrong with it.

yeah id like to know too considering both of the twin turbos where siezed......

i know the feeling going from a bulletproof GX to a troublesome turbocar!

i'm sure they be able to sort you out, ej20r's out of GT-bs are know to have piston slap issues and big end problems, some of them its only a matter of time before they blow, and everyones heard stories about japanese servicing intervals on these things!

good luck mate

yeh they seem very good with their service, and in no way am i doubting their quality of engines.
but i had the engine put in by my mechanic that knows his subarus well, and he said the engine looked good.
it ran fine, i took it real easy on it since i have had it, so i dont know what happened. i should find out soon.
i hope :P

Keep it, Obviously this car will be worth more money down the track with it's original goodies intact (or at least available to refit if required)

questions....

a). how do multiple lifters die at once? and what happened to them

b). while renowned for piston slap in higher k motors and big end bearing issues due to running 98 or 96 RON fuel on their jap 100 RON tune, what went wrong in the EJ20R?

Im guessing detonation caused both, but why?.....

Before you go ripping the motor out make sure they didn't use the round engine mounts from the TT, they have a habit of splitting & sounding exactly the same as a big end going, I know of two cars this has happened to.

my last engine the lifters were noisy, i dont know why they just broke, but they did.
this engine i dont know what is wrong. it has a loud rattle coming from inside the engine. the ej20r ran fine for a while then died so we hopefully i know next week what went wrong.

hey bills, in regard to this, have you ever actually heard your car ping? i've never once heard it, and both dyno runs the thing has been running pretty rich, plus i get the black smoke out the exhaust on a hard booting...

?

well i should get the car back next week.
its getting a full forged rebuild by bmi :D
i am paying the difference between the standard n forged costs, which isnt much, but since its gettn rebuilt id rather do it properly
bmi have been excellent so far and i cant wait to get the car back. yew....

That's good news mate. Did they find out what was wrong with it or what caused the problem? Was it the engine, or something to do with your ecu/fuel system/other?

thats coz you dont run the jappa ECU.

Smidge, i have heard it ping when ive been messing with it, its never done it audibly in stock setup.
but the knocklink sometimes says otherwise though.

yeh im certainly happy shes all goin good. been takin it easy but :P
yeh found out what went wrong. the big end went cause of crap in the engine and starved it of oil,
id say just because it had been sitting for a while. but im glad it was nothing on my behalf :P
jsut gota rack up more kms now so i can boost her
