Hey guys, picking up my RS liberty today actually so thought i better join up quick smart.

Im selling my 1979 xd V8 to swap over to a wagon for practicality purposes and decided on an RS for some fun.

Looking forward to being a part of the club.

Chris

ps two questions:

1) I am buying the car with a noisy 1st gear which i am going to fix straight away. I have been quoted $2650 for a rebuilt new gearbox or around $1500 for second hand box and diff.

is it possible to get a gearbox specialist to just replace 1st gear? the rest of the box is fine and thought it might save some pennies for now.

2) it is stock except for 3 inch exhaust and k+n filter, whats the best way to bump up the power a little without going crazy?

thanks again - chris

did you buy that wagon off ebay?ring up ichiban and just replace the whole box mate. by the time you stuff around its just not worth rebuilding the old one

hi chr!s.
best option to bump up power is to add a vos chip. for $350 it cant be beaten for bang for buck. do a search and you'll find heaps of info.

i would like to know wat box r they replacing... 2000 model would be the most strongest box for OEM for the rs. after 2001 and its a differnt story

a boost control would be bang for ur buck..

scrim

how much are you willing to spend? VOS chip and a TD05 would be a good start.

Welcome aboard Chr!s.

Who have you consulted in regards to fixing your box?

Perhaps you could contact these guys:

http://www.alldrivesubaroo.com.au/

The specialise in replacement and repair of gearboxes. I had my gearbox repaired almost a year ago, they did a top job for a great price :) Give them a call. I'm not affiliated with them, just a satisfied customer. :)

And bang-for-buck mod? for the RS, It'd have to be the Vos Chip!

2000 model of what car? Are we talking just wrx 5 speeds? If so, STi stuff is stronger and the ratio makes a difference too.

There's a lot of gearbox options available for our cars, and rebuilding the stock box is probably one of the least reliable and more costly options. If it's the wagon is the one a few people think it is, you got a great buy!

personally i would look at getting an aftermarket gear set

ppg or par i think for around 2k fitted (par) you could have 1-2nd straight or helical

and not need to worry bout them again for a while to come just another thought

Congrats on the purchase mate!

Whereabouts in the 'gong are you?

For a bit of a power increase i'd suggest a boost controller (mechanical or electronic) to increase boost up to about ~15psi (obviously depending on condition of the donk) and a Fuel Cut Defender.

chr!s
25th March 2008, 06:49 PM
i bought the one off ebay...

It is this:

1993 rs liberty wagon.
152000km
ABS option
4 new tyres
3 inch exhaust
K+N filter
lowered
alarm
air cond just been regassed.

got it for $3500

i put 12 months rego on it and so it has cost me $4300...

once i get gearbox done then im up to around $5500!!! not a bad buy hey?!?!

chr!s
25th March 2008, 06:51 PM
also when i give it to it in third it sneezes massive sometime as if it has just **** itself? is that the boost cut? why does that happen and how do i fix it!!!

i think ill go a cheap mechanical boost controller first and sort out the boost cut.

then if funds allow ill try one of those vos chips... its an everyday driver so i just like it standardish...

Maybe that was a photo he took while he was looking at the car or just got it home?

that is correct - its the number from the dude when i bought it... i had to take some pics fast cause Shannons would not insure it for more than $3500 (what i paid for it) until i sent some pics in... now its insured for $10000 with them.

so im not bloody selling it (no offense) but i am getting asked a lot if i am, a few guys have pm'd me asking if im gonna selling it and when i first bought it i considered selling it straight away for more cause i dont need a wagon worth this much (i bought it cause i have two germans shepherds and didnt want them going on the backseat of my v8 xd fairmont...) and it was a bloody bargain...

but now ive driven it and enjoyed it - im in love.

keeping the RS and looking forward to being part of the forum and the first wollongong cruise this month.

How'd ya get it for 3.5k?? Thats a steal mate! Nice work.

chr!s
9th April 2008, 09:06 PM
the guy had it for sale for $8700 (i think) and then he got noise in 1st gear. then he put it in the garage and left it. and advertised it on ebay a few times i think?

then he put it on ebay for $3800 and i saw it, called him up, drove around there (5 minutes away) offered him $3500 and he took it. he threw in a pinkslip with it.

so now i am buying a gearbox and diff off dan for $1500 on saturday, fitting it that weekend and then will have a decent rs liberty wagon with four new tyres and all the works for $5000...

If I managed to steal one for that much I'd look at putting a 6-speed in if you've got the time and the know-how or know someone who does.

It was a good deal though mate, well done. I wish I could find one for that sort of money.

they are good fun the old v8 falcooons. but to combine a wagon for practicality, comfortable interior, all the accessories youd ever need, all wheel drive and a turbo hanging off the engine... from a true blue ford fan: "im impressed"...

Hey guys,

I too am a new RS owner, from Canberra. Bought a 1992 RS Sedan yesterday. Over the moon with it, just a few bits an pieces to sort out to get it though rego (its just a bit loud :P, and the horn doesn't work) but am absolutely stoked with it.

hey darkrs, thanks for the welcome. I wont be able to make the cotter cruise this weekend, because I have a soccer game :(

I had my car checked today, the exhaust was 115 dB :( and apparently the springs aren't legal, and I need to either buy or borrow some new tires.

They didn't mention the BOV and pod, are these legal in the act? also, do i have to post a certain number of times to be able to send pm's?

I can see the hp power figures now or is that the dollar signs...

Talking about fuel pumps, twice now ive gone aroudn a left hand corner and booted it and its kind of misfired?

do rs's have trouble picking up fuel or could it be something else?

chr!s
19th April 2008, 09:20 AM
pulled out my fuel pump... uniasia jecs... dang it... ok so fuel pump hey.... she said this car would be a money pit...

"darling, i think my fuel pump is on the way out...."

dja
19th April 2008, 10:30 AM
when you change it mate, you can lower it a bit so it picks up from lower in the swirl pot, this, with a walbro, and a genuine fuel sock, zero fuel pickup issues with low fuel and cornering hard.

Hi guys, looks like this is the place to boast about being a proud new rs owner. I just got myself my first 92 rs. Im new to subies, and new to 'real' cars in general, so it's good to know there are a bunch of good guys near-by to help me out with my stupid questions when I start to get my hands dirty (cant wait!!).
