G'day Ryan.
Can we get some better pictures of the wheels?
What plans have you got, conversion?

The car looks neat, I've always been a fan of the Black on white theme.

and a conversion i would do right now if i could, but unfortunatly its a long term plan, being an apprentice i just cant afford that at the moment, so for now its just to lower it, paint the side strips and mirrors, then rx kit and go from there

Personally i wouldn't be to worried about an RX kit.
It can be quiet expensive ($2500 unpainted for new bars and skirts.)
Focus on suspension components for the best bang for buck.

Upgrade the sway bar links, as the OEM items like to snap.
Front and rear 22mm sway bars are the go also.
Then perhaps hunt down some Bilstien or STi struts.

For any suspension gear, Hit up Datman. He's a vendor hear and can supply White line items for very reasonable prices.

looks tidy as dude, i am just a year older than you and only got a G1S1, big fan of your lib... i agree with LE94CY..i have just saved up my dollars and put them into handling: currently fitting 16", new shocks, camber, strut brace, 2 pots!! and eventually a rear Sway bar and links...but being a student budgets are tight!!!, good luck with the mods

yeah sway bars were also on the cards, thanks for all the advice, but i got 1 question, what would you guys suggest i use to lower it, i was thinking king springs, but im not to sure?

and Kez i deffinatly feel for you with the money situation, sounds like you got plenty happening soon though, good luck with it all

I personally don't like King springs.
I find them to be very rough and unforgiving.
On standard KYB struts they just plain blow, and you can expect the struts to die a fast horrible death. (Speaking from experience.:))

Having said that, they work for your budget and there are people around who will say they're fine.

Another option maybe to find some V4 STi struts. On the gen1's they tend to lower the car by about 10mm all round. Which may not sound like much, but try driving a dumped car around all day everyday, it soon grows old.

In any case that's just my 2c.

Cheers, Paul.

yeh buddy..i just started full time study again..hopefully get a good job in no time hehe...
yah i got king springs "low" in mine..drops it to make it look a bit more serious and helps hold the road alot better.. but one thing to not is if you have the money have a look into new shocks/struts cause they can be all put in at once with a lump sum price...
i stupidly put king lows in, and found out my shocks were ***ed and the car scrubed massive grooves in the tyres and eventually blew out one !!
cheers
kez
ps. king springs are pretty reasonable, like 200-280 for a set of 4

the only thing thats leaning me towards the king springs is that i can get a brand new set for about $200 and my guards rolled for a carton of beer

now you have me worried about the struts but hey theres always something to worry about isnt there, thanks for your opinion mate, everything helps

i did a ghetto style guard rolling (i jacked it up, and got a solid bar, and smashed the **** out of it...haha)...yeh if you car is a 97" it shouldn't be that worn out, in comparison to mine 1990" GX.. just get it checked out, should be all good buddy...once you fix one you'll want to change another- but that's the way it goes :)

yeh man, ya gotta do what ya gotta do (rocky quote :P )...once you get some kings in there it'd look mint...
since you got an N/A like myself, you can't really extract too much power from them, soo best piece of advice to give is... make it run perfect and give it a nice muffler for that awesome boxer note!!!. and a Cold air feed (should be on a thread : use search function) and lots of aesthetic touches to make it look super sexy :P
and get that turbo when you can afford to crash it !!! woot. hope this helps
good luck bro
cheers

Quick tip:
Jump on Ebay and grab your self a set of those extractors.
You'll gain a wee little bit of bottom end torque and throttle response. But with a decent sports muffler on it you'll get a very nice sound from the wagon.

Welcome to RSLC mate, nice little car you have there.
its been explained, but quality lowered suspension, followed by a rear swaybar, and front strut brace would be first port of call.
As for extractors i wouldnt waste the money(but to each there own) a diff back exhaust would be enopugh for what your after, without breaking the bank.
I own an RS and a wags the same as yours, recently put some GF8(wrx wags suspension) in it(gen2) with some 16's. Changed its handling dramatically. this would be a good start for you.

Gen2's wont sound the same as a gen1 NA.
Because the exhaust manifold is different, horrible even.
The exhaust gasses flow back into each other. Also they're even length and sound utterly shite (Like a Lancer with a hole in the muffler).
You do get a small noticeable improvement with them.

Listen to this and make your mind up.

The above mentioned extractors and a 2.5" press bent mild steel exhaust system finished with an aerospeed SS oval sports muffler.

Sorry, just wanted to get it clear. I want o spruce up the GF's Gen 3 RX (auto), and I heard Rhys's (buddylove) car on a cruise as well as the last dyno day
and it didn't sound as good as the one in the clip and he has much the same setup.
I'm thinking just a change from the diff back with a better Muffler as well as the extractors should do it, don't want it as loud as my wagon.

Steve

If you just put a loud muffler on it, it will sound like a Honda just like the Gen2.

i actually did :P ... as rough as it may sound !! (i found a rounded head bar, and bashed the sharp edge up, and kept hitting it to arc the edge...cause the tyres tore off rubber lining, and started tearing little strands of rubber....
it may sound rough, but it actualy works fine, its rounded, sanded back and primed atm :D
