Welcome to the RSLC.
Yeah, plenty of people here can help you.
Post the question in the relevant topic and it can be discussed without clogging the intro thread. :)
May also be an idea to include as much info about the fault and what engine type etc.

Hi all, i'm new to this site. Just bought myself a 92 RS liberty and my brother found this site on the web and he said i should check it out, so here i am.

My RS is basicly stock except for a 3.5" stainless steel exhaust from the turbo, with 95' wrx wheels and a decent stance.

Hay wheezzy, mate i have the very same tick in my suby. must be a regular occurance, hope someone knows how to fix it.

Another Q. I have a nasty flat spot when she boosts, it happens whenever i open it up. Any suggestions? Do i just need a tune? Who should i see>

g'day all
i bought my 98rx in 2005 as my second car and have had some good times in the hills of adelaide. unfortunately a fractured wheel spacer caused a lost wheel with rear end damage and a corked piston from lean out has seen the car safely off the road for the last six months.

luckily i still kept my first car, an 89' N13 SSS, with a few cheap mods; pod, exhaust (manifold inc), water induction via butterfly and retarded cam gear w advanced timing which keeps me on the road with decent results (unfortunate for pedestians, dogs, cats, rabbits...)

from collecting bottles and cans from recycling depos and selling them back to them ive managed to save enough brownie points to buy a decent half cut :tu im currently tossing up between a liberty turbo (gt or b4), a wrx or a ra type sti halfie so ive come to the forums to do my resarch and join your community.

Can't hold a world record once beaten - is no longer a world record - hence past tense of 'former'

Seem to recall it was beaten by a - wait for it - a Saab?? Stand to be corrected on this

yeah the twins were ok for like a week until i got bored of them, I had a 98 gen 2 TT wagn in black prior to this one but i always wanted the B4 shape and when a friend imported for me i couldnt say no.
only had the single turbo for about two weeks now but the diffrence is massive there is absolutely no lag
i used to be able to make my self a coffee while waiting for the second turbo to come on boost but its definately
the way to go.

Hi all,

New on here obviously, wanted to stop piling on the kms on my AU tickford fairmont V8, have some money saved up and decided to buy a run around whilst building a monster street engine for the mont. started looking around and ended up with a 92 RS liberty.

Has had some MRT work done to it already, body is a little rough in places and some other related issues (can you say leaky sunroof). Anyway since driving this thing around, there is no way it will be a daily, as it moves and drinks better than my V8 mont!

So now the money will be spent on the RS and the mont will be put on gas lol.

Look forward to meeting other members and learning from them as i know nothing about subbies, having lived in the Ford camp for life.

Hello ppl.
My story can be summed up by "Liberty/Legacy GT conversion take two" having had my first Lib heavily rear ended by a douche bag. A couple of bruises and an undamaged engine but a severely bent chassis is what i took home.

I am half way through my new project, spurred on and guided by information available in this forum.
I'll keep u posted if you care to look. (the crash photos are cringe worthy)

Gday all,
Been scrounging on here for a while, recently just switched from a lifted gx wagon to a lowered legacy wagon, fair bit of difference the turbo makes.
Originally had planned to lift the sh1t out of the legacy and use it for beach bashing, but with the turbo only spooling at about 4000 somehow i dont think it will work...
Anyway, sure i'll meet you all soon, might head over to Dougs Friday night for the pizza meet up.

Hi all
Just took delervery of my dream car a 92 Liberty RS.
I have owned a rally GX liberty for the last 9 years and got the chance to buy my neigbours RS (oldboy's old car)
Shes pretty standard apart from a bit of suspension work and a 3" exaust and Ill get the Turbosmart bost refited so I can up the bost a little more.
After taking it for a bit of a thrash I want to know if anyone does track days?
Im a bit of an old racer and wouldnt mind punting the RS around a track. Seems such a shame to drive such a cool car in traffic having to abide by speed limits and not having the chance to give it a hiding

G'day lads and lasses,
I am in the process of buying a '91 Rs Liberty sedan.

My technical knowledge is quite limited when it comes to Turbo's, intercoolers and the like, but we all need to start some place right?

A little about myself-

I am 1/2 Norweigan,
I am also 1/2 Australian,
I love Subaru, and so the last 2 years of WRC with Chris Atkinson and Petter Solberg was absolutely great. I think the new hatch could have placed Petter in a better position until they(Subaru) pulled out.

Sebastian Loeb sold his soul "crossroads" style and should be eliminated due to his freakish ability. Great to see Marcus Gronholm back but.

My original choice of car was a 95/96 Honda Civic hatch (yeah yeah I know RICE) nice style and body you must admit!?

A month or 2 of reading on here, few trips to Mick's and by picking my brain at work, you'll know a whole lot in no time. :)

Had a '92 RS from new till it was nicked in '06 by some ******* ********'s for a Saturday night drag meet and torched when they'd had their fun.

Recently found its clone (''93 sedan, original and 175,000km) and looking forward to some more RS'ing. This one has an alarm and immobiliser!

It's bad news when any RS gets torched but when it's been your pride and joy since new it's even more tragic.
Glad you have managed to find a replacement. :tu

Hi all new to the forum, have heard a lot of good things, from technical tips to events. I live in Hobart TAS and brought my Forester new late 2004, not a Liberty, but still from the same stable. Have done a fews things since, listed below, essentially a sleeper thought, stock from the outside and exhaust is designed for performance not noise, although it makes a fair bit of that once you get obove 4,000 rpm.

Hi all,

Just popped over from the UK to say hello as you seem to have a lot more of the early Legacys/Libertys than we do.

I have a 1990 GT gen1 series 1 (just like legacy_babes car above) and also a 96 GTB that I have converted to run on lpg (that the wife and family use)

Trying to lower my car at the moment but am having a few issues. I will post a question as soon as I have access :tu

Hi, everyone.

I have the liberty gx 1997. It is coming to get nicely. Soon it will be road worthy. And I was just wondering if I could put RS Liberty Gen 1 Series 2 Fog Lights in my 1997 liberty GX. I found them cheap, and I think it would make driving at night more comfortable.

Crazy Dan
21st September 2009, 07:56 PM
Hi all Crazy Dan here! My mate had a Legacy GT wagon think his name was GT_wagz on here and now he's got an Aus delivered '90' RS. I picked up my '90' Legacy GT about a week ago and thought I would finally get around to saying hello.

Took it for my first real drive yesterday through the yarra ranges and I must say I'm really happy and surprised by what these things can do. Around corners I found it to have a massive safety net as you can break through the corner or power through it without much shit in my pant's (lol sorry 'bout that) I'm happy with the stock power for now but next year I have plans for a good everyday driver plus occasional hill climbs fun machine! By that I mean a respray so I can drive in style :P a bit more boost just so It can spool up a bit earlier (probably a MBC) and most likey a chip or new ecu.

At the moment It's a stocky with WRX gold rims and poddy. STI CF strut brace and I think it's got stiffer springs because I'v driven the import and aus delivered and it's hard as compared to these.

You'll see me cruising around in the SE suburbs of Vic.

Thanks for letting me be a part of this group and I'll try and get out on some cruises.

Dan

Hey guys.

Im migrating from the Toyota family here. Had my simple gx wagon for a while. Recently had some problems and found this forum.

Believe it or not, some random dude i saw in the beach carpark after a surf told me about the forum. After the always cool stranger conversation of 'you have a lib too...sick, how your suby going?'.

Cool stuff when u can just say hey to another suby enthusiast!

I know alot about toyo's but am sooo keen to learn heaps about subarus. I love the fact theres so many engines and options. First came across this when i worked in a subaru dealership workshop. Was really interesting to see some non dodgey (to a point) part swapping/integrating.

Seeya round!

I recently purchased a 96 Legacy GT-B wagon. Have been a long time subaru owner but this is the first of the turbo variety. Looking forward to doing some runs etc. I need to fix my rocker cover gasket then I will get some pics up.

On another note I am not sure if anyone on here is also a member of the ozliberty forum but when I try and register there I get an email to my account but there isnt a hyperlink to activate my account.

Hello everyone, I'm Brandon. Just signed up here so I can look at all your awesome ADM parts and cars and be jealous. I'm from Denver in the states. I've got a 91 Legacy SS (I think you call it a G1S1, not sure how your model years work, might be an ADM 90) as well as an 08 STI.

I managed to find some EJ20R heads that I plan to put on my Legacy, but while I get more parts worked out I'm simply going to throw on an intercooler, 16g turbo, some injectors, a downpipe and a chip.

Nice forum you've got here, glad to be a part of it.

Little annoying.

Either way, I'm Moska.
I recently acquired Gen2 liberty to join the family with my GC8 WRX and my girlfriend's Gen1 Liberty.

To quickly run down the cars without too much detail :D

Shit where to start.....

Rolling on 18's most of the time
Recently did a big end bearing during the tuning of the PFC, fail, made 170kwatw pre-tune off the street, was going for 200. Now it's getting a forged STI block, STI injectors, Walbro fuel pump and I'm hoping for a smidge over 200 once she's done.

Finally the Gen2 which I only bought last wednesday
1997 RX

2000 STI 5spd and diff
Forged bottom end
Wiseco Forged pistons and H-beam rods

Came with a busted slave cylinder, which I swiftly replaced, only to find the clutch fork had WAY to much play, after dropping the box tonight we found the release bearing was smashed to bits and was detached from the pressure plate, luckily, I had my old WRX pressure plate on hand, snap the bearing off that, snap it on the Libs one and viola, it drove under its own power for the first time tonight, runs a bit rough and rich and is LOUD AS FUCK with just the dump pipe attached but all things will come together quite well :D
You guys would never believe how much this car cost me. Bearing in mind it didn't drive, needs a new front bar (has a hole in it), new bonnet (RS spec, I don't want a scoop, sleeper spec FTW) and new boot (fist size dint in it) I picked it up for the sum total of $2800 :D BEST BUY EVER! Couldn't say no!

Hope that wasn't too much detail, I'm sure I'll just copy paste this in to my ride thread when I eventually get to make one :D

hey all, got my first subaru last week, its a 92 rs lib, loving it too, im also a member on calaisturbo but i sold my 87 calais (hence my username) to get into a factory turbo.

id spent over ten grand on my vl, however things just got to the point where i was over it, i had all the turbo gear ready to go but decided to unload it as i wanted a factory turbo. after a bit of a look around, i decided on an RS lib and im sure glad i did, the cars are awesome.

i used to work at a car dealership which had a lot of wrx's come thru, and having always admired them its nice to get into something which is more or less the same drivetrain wise, but has somewhat more of an older cult status, just like the vl calais.

anyway, i look forward to my time on RSliberty and im sure im gonna have a lot of questions, because as i was just compliling a wealth of info on the vl, i switched cars, so now i have to start over! cheers all.

Hey all,

Just slapped a deposit down on a mint 91 Liberty RS. 180,000km, 2nd owner 100% stock.
I caught up with one of your members at an Oran Park Driver training day earlier in october, had a turbo'd wagon that ended up on a tilt tray home coz of big end troubles, I grilled him about a few bits and pieces, very nice bloke! If I see his username I'll remember :P

here are a few pics of my new toy... which I'm yet to take delivery of...
I dont have any serious plans, perhaps a set of later model rims, and a 2.5inch exhaust, its going to be the daily for the mrs and I, so I want to keep it as clean and simple as possible.

yes, we know lots....
but unless it has had forged pistons dropped into it, you shouldn;t have piston slap in a healthy motor.
and with forgies it should only be for the first 20 seconds or so when cold

Stock turbo, gearbox, clutch? That's a mighty good time if so. If you try and match it though I would expect the engine to end up the same as the last one. Might want to get the tune checked out.

Im 33 and new to the subaru scene, always been interested in cars tho. Currently driving an turbo mr2 sw20 and am making the transition to an awd subaru turbo. Just bought a 91 legacy wagon so thought I'd come and say hi, I reckon I may need some help before this build is finished ;c)

Thanks to Dan and Ben for the promised help so far in the build.

I work with Dan, and he has advised me to jump on the forum and get to know you guys.

I'm thinking of coming down to the nationals if car is ready...

Hey guys, I have had an 84 Touring Wagon, and a 90 Liberty GX, but I am now about to buy either an RS Liberty or a Legacy GT, so I am going to say hi, I know how tight-knit Subaru owners are, but lately I have been naughty and driving a Cressida (could not afford a Liberty at the time I bought that.) I hope I can help and I thank you all in advance for any help provided.

I am going to go over to the relevant place and discuss some of the potential buys I am looking at.

Sean.

Just saying Hi,

I currently do not own a subaru, at the moment im in a 1970 Mazda 1300 Sedan, stock. So if you know anyone who wants an old Mazda in very good condition, let us know!

Seeing as im married with 2 kids the mazda is just not big enough, im after an RS Wagon or WRX Wagon. Im trying to get as much information as possible about these cars so thats why im here.

I used to own a 94 WRX Wagon which i sold about 3 years ago, and a 04 Forester XT which someone thought it would be a good idea to pull out in front of at 100kph. Im not new to subaru's, so you can understand why i would like to get another one.

My name is Adam.

Hi all, big Subaru fan here in Brisbane.

We own,

MY03 Forester X
MY07 Liberty 2.5i
MY09 Impreza RS
MY03 Peugeot 206 Gti

I have the Pug, it's my stay-stock-drive-normally-car before I am on my opens and can afford something with boost.

We love Subaru's because they are reliable, drive really well, look good, etc etc etc.

By the time I am on my opens in two years, I will probably be looking at a Liberty GT or Forester XT.

Thanks
Tim

Howdy,

I'm Mark and live just outside Canberra.

I am seriously thinking for buying a new 2010 Liberty 2.5 GT Premium Sedan and joined up to get some impressions for other owners.

I had a good look and drive of a 2010 Liberty 2.5 Sports, as my mother takes delivery of a new one this week. I loved it so much it started me thinking and working out the finances.

My current drive is a Ford Territory that I brought new in 2004. I will be keeping the Territory as I have modified and blinged it a fair bit, well a lot really and it will be my travelling drive and the Liberty GT will be my daily drive.

Looking forward to participating in the forum and learing from you guys.

Mark

Howdy Mark, remember me from Aus Ford Forum... Probably not... welcome to RSLC.

I'm not sure how many 2010 owners you'll find on here. Most of the guys on here are into the older models.

Just had some bits I got from Darren @ FTG fitted. Trying to sort better wheels.

Just as well Darren only sell bit for Fords or I would go broke twice as fast if/when I buy the Liberty.

Your Territory looks good with those wheels and the body kt.

Hi all i just thought i'd introduce myself, my name is Gary i'm from Queensland but have lived in Perth for the last 15-16 years. I bought a g1s2 GX wagon about 3-4 years ago and since then have fell in love with the Liberty way of life. My step son named the car Liam when i first bought it and the name has stuck ever since. The previous owner run up the arse of someone but luckily most of the damage was only superfical (ie.bumper, headlight, blinker) and the rest of the body is in fairly good nic. I have recently done the turbo conversion and have to say even though the engine is a stock 96wrx the power difference compared to the 2.2na is quite impressive. I plan to do a few more things to Liam in the future but no rush as i have no plans of getting rid of him in the near future, anyway thats my intro and i hope i can contribute to the site as the site has helped me. Cheers Gaz.

Hi everyone

I am in brisbane and I brought a 92 Liberty RS Turbo. It was stock standard when purchased and now sports a 3" exhaust (muffler only), upgraded BOV and an free flowing air filter.

I am trying to keep it as minimal as possible as its a daily drive but i have the need to mod it more. :D

Hopefully willuse this site alot for my research.
