I'm Adam, an electrical engineering student at UWS Penrith (my last year this year). Currently working at an electronics store with rec01l on the weekends. Looking for a first car and he suggested I get my hands on an early subaru liberty. Went for a ride in turbo-wags and loving it. Was originally looking at a suzuki swift GTI or Mitsubishi Mirage, but have been converted.
Main interests are electronics, esp. audio, but I want to get more into the mechanical side of things. I'm 24 this year and have been on my L's since June 2004. Lazy, I know. Now I have to get my P's soon as my girlfriend is possibly losing her license for 3 months for speeding on the October long weekend.
Being an engineer, I strive for efficiency and will be modifying the engine to increase airflow and cooling.
Being a student, I'm teh poor. Looking (hoping) to pick up a well loved manual gen 1 liberty GX for $1-1.5k :(
Never been much of a car enthusiast, but always willing to learn and ask questions. Thanks for taking the time to read this. :D

Hey Sine Wave, welcome to the club!! A man after my own profession!! Nice! So you wanting to get into power engineering... comms... RF?
Oh and excellent choice in car ;)

Haha, no way! Surprised someone knows about this. I actually did my assignments in Digital Signal Processing using the audio from this and similar sites, applying different filters to identify the components of each type of phenomena. Very cool stuff indeed!

Not a big fan of power engineering, helped wire up the three phase power in a factory that makes generators in Appin for the mines once... lol. Can do it, but not my cup of tea. :P
My major is in wireless communications, but I'm also good with programming. Ran a tutorial group for first year students in C++ and Matlab programming, lotsa fun. Where do you work? I actually need to do some work experience at an engineering company if anyone knows of any places hiring.

yeah its cool isn't it. i do audiovisual crap for a living now so i don't spend as much time getting into the nerdy stuff like i used to, in my free time I try to avoid anything with wires or power haha

Yeah, it's crap for anything but solving high level maths equations in uber-fast times. C/C++ and assembly are my main cup of tea. Been buggering around with Microchip PICs and Atmel AVRs for a while. What part of Campbelltown you from? I live in Mac Fields or at my bro's place in Ambervale. Catch up for a cruise when/if I get my car. :)

You should get back into it, hehe. Get some of the kits for cars from Jaycar/Altronics and put an Air/Fuel Mixture Display in your car. :D
Do you do hifi installs for homes or businesses? tv's or projectors? :)

sold my turbo car, don't have to worry about AFR's anymore!! :)

i do maintenance and upgrades etc for one site only. so yeah projectors/monitors & all the various display technology like big crt screens and LED walls. also run a theatre and few theatrettes' with decent sound setups, and dabble in all the rest of the signal chain inbetween from media authoring to the rackgear to cabling/fibre/dmx/lighting etc and all of that joy.

good while im young but i reckon i will get over constantly having to learn new things and stay up to date with technology rapidly changing.
Plus the A/V/entertainment industry will have to be one of the first to disappear when/if econonmies and stuff change with the 'climate change' etc when power and everything becomes expense.

bet mine goes under first! recording engineer, about 50billion people that wanna do it, and about 5 jobs - that all pay crap!

welcome to the club! prepare to spend loooooots of money...

if you don't wanna spend lots of money, buy something smaller cheaper and less complicated..

Thanks, mate. I don't mind spending justifiable money. Once I've left uni and gotten a real job, will be able to blow a bit more on it. :D
Complicated I don't mind, it's been really good learning all these mechanical things coming from a purely electronic background. Helped my mate rip his dead automatic transmission out of his VR Commodore and looking underneath at the transmission fluid routes is like looking at a circuit. Restrictions in the flow = resistors, small reservoirs = capacitors, regulators, valves for logic... Incredible stuff. :D

hasn't it already gone under with the onset of home studio recordings? but i spose just cos every cat out there has pro fools doesn't mean they know how to get a good recording done ay.
there is always advertising!

and yeah sinewave, just buy an RS turbo! A fast one! You will love learning about the way the ECU and sensors all interact.
If you buy a standard RS get the SubDataScan (search the threads for info about it) or go one better and do it yourself with a cable and a laptop.

yep there is always advertising, next time you hear a dick smith ad on the radio think of me!

anyways... hell yeah buy an RS, or any liberty, but the RS will give you warm fuzzys with the cleverness of how a little 20 year old designed motor goes so good

I can't afford the RS, let alone a turbo one. It would be wasted in my case as while I enjoy being jolted back in my seat in mates cars, it just doesn't feel right for me when driving. Who knows, maybe after I'm on my P's I'll get the turbo bug. ;) :P

You do the recording for tricky dickies? If so, for shame! Nah, hehe. Whatever keeps your fridge full of bacon. :D

I've learnt a lot about the EJ20T this week thanks to Nath, letting me watch a swap over in an RS. Having never really dealt with or seen boxer engines before this year, it's been a lot of fun. :)
