Hey dudes, I need HELP!!!
Ive had my motor fully rebuilt 3000ks ago and now its stuffed and needs to be built again.
My car seems to be doing some crazy boost spike problem where the boost rises out of control way past its maximum setting and has now damged my new engine.
DTS here in canberra have no idea what is causing the problem have replaced the wastegate actuator and had turbo checked all seems fine. Could it be the factory boost controler? Car is also running very lean and now is burning oil. Ive spent over 7grand with rebuild and dyno time and still have a car i cant drive.
Ive lost my confidence in DTS can anyone recommend another tuner in ACT area. ??
Any help much appreciated, thanks y'all!

Thanks Turbo man!

Are you still running the stock ECU? If so there isn't a whole lot a tuner is going to be able to do for you that many other cheaper mechanics / backyardies / other members on here can't.
Where abouts in Canberra are you?

Should have mentioned, im running a haltech interceptor. Im in the belconnen area.

Ah ok, sweet.
If you want to do some boost trouble shooting yourself the following is what i would do. You need to take care if you are also having a leaning out issue though. Do you have a boost gauge of some description?
1) Try to operate the wastegate lever by hand. Can do this with the actuator unattached to get a good feel, or just leave it attached to check it is working. If the waste gate isn't moving there is your problem.
2) Connect the wastegate directly to the compressor outlet, this will skip your boost control and should run 6psi boost. (or probably 9psi if you do not still have the stock turbo). If it is boosting 6psi boost control is the culprit. Check vac hoses etc, if you can't find anything i would just install a turbotech boost controller: ebay link (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Turbotech-manual-turbo-boost-controller-THE-ORIGINAL_W0QQitemZ190312145699QQcmdZViewItemQQptZA U_Car_Parts_Accessories?hash=item2c4f7ce323&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l1262&_trkparms=|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A30) directly between wastegate and compressor hosuing like so: http://i498.photobucket.com/albums/rr345/scooby_001/DSC03636.jpg

can you list the details of the build, what motor turbo etc you have.
also is it the Haltech controlling your boost through the standard boost solinoid??

Yea its leaning out aswell, runs rich on idle then leans out on boost.
I had the waste gate actuator replaced with a new one, as thats what DTS thought was wrong with it. But it hasnt solved the problem.
I dont have the knowledge to do much trouble shooting stuff, and the car is stuck at DTS now as they said they cant even tune it enough for me to drive it.
Thanks for your suggestion dude, im trying to get the bottom of this bcoz DTS dont seem to be.

Rich as at idle then lean out under boost - have they checked the fuel pressure regulator is working properly and has a good manifold pressure reading? Bridge the wastegate line from the housing to the actuator to eliminate any issue with the boost controller.

Ok swags this is what i had done in the build,
EJ20T original RS motor from 93
I originally did the rebuild as lifters were getting VERY noisy after having done 260.000ks
New lifters
Bearings everything that usually gets replaced in a build was done water pump, timing belts etc
Hypertech 20 thou oversized pistons/rings
Bottom end balanced
vf23 turbo
Hybrid FMIC
I think the haltech is just using the factory solenoid, i dont have an aftermarket boost controller.

Hey Lay i dont know if they've done any of those checks, problem is i dont have the knowledge to drill them about what they've done and not done.
But i will make a list of things it could be from what you guys have told me and ask them.
They seem to be befuddled by the whole thing.

Sounds like DTS saw you coming mate.
i would be going through your 7k of receipts and seeing what exactly they did, because if that was me, i would lose my nana.
List all the mods etc, also like advised give ESp a call, and see if they will look at it for you.

DTS didnt actually do the build, Berco in Mitchell did it DTS have just tuned the car since ive had it. Before this i thought they were ok.
This is everything ive done to the car:
Turbo Back/E
front mount
Haltech Interceptor
Malpassi Fuel Pres Reg
Blitz Turbo Timer/Boost Guage
KN Pod
Hypertech Liquig Forged Pistons 20 thou Oversize
Balanced
VF23
(Still running standard injectors and fuel pump) I was told thers no need to upgrade.
And yes Dj i lost on Wednesday when i went to see what goin on wif my car. They didnt even think of the standard boost controller maybe beeing the issue.

mate that should have been the first thing to upgrade. i would take it somewhere else or maybe get some of the guys from ACT to help you out to diagnose the issue.
hopefully you don't get ripped off anymore. goodluck.

Stock pump is worth upgrading, but doesn't sound like it is causing your problems.
I am not sure exactly how the interceptor ecus hook in, but if you can just remove the interceptor and run off the stock ecu you should be good to go. Ask them to set the fuel pressure to 36 PSI without the vac line on and run the wastegate actuator straight off the compressor housing. This should at least get your car the **** outta dodge.
I am happy to come and help you out, there are far more knowledgeable members in Canberra then me also.

$7k to rebuild Standard RS heads? you know they are just going to get noisy again? next job for you is to ditch the $hitty RS hydraulic heads and go for some wrx heads at least!

it was 6k i said 7 including dyno time. Yea your proly right but the old hydraulic lifters lasted 260 thou so they'll do for now. I didnt wana change the heads as i had previuosly done changed to oversize pistons and wanted to keep the set up .
I'll have to chuck a pic of the old RS had it for abour 6 years.

you havent mentioned WHAT has actually failed in the engine, has it dont a piston/ring or has it blown a big end? more information is needed.

I dont know as yet what damage has been done, as i wanted to get this boost spike problem resolved before i go back to berco and tell them that the engine they built 3000k's ago needs to come out again.
And thers no point fixing it until the tune is right or it will blow again.
Im stuck at the moment, i lose my job in 2 weeks i dont think i can afford another rebuild. :(

yeah mate, esp are the the only tuners in canberra i trust, all of my own cars and customers cars are tuned at esp with great results.
as an add onto pauls offer, i'm also more than happy to help having a look and sorting it out.
I cant believe places like DTS can continue to do this sh1t.
