View Full Version : I'm a Cbr noob too!

g'day all.
as mentioned, I'm a canberra noobie to the subbie. I've had a MKII supra with a 7m-gte in it for the last 8 odd years. but with the addition of two little girls into the family, the missus has said it is time to change cars into something more family orientated. "Ok" i said, go find me a RS then! So she did!

so what has the missus gone and gotten me? Well as mentioned in the canberra thread, the nsw rego papers say it is a '89 liberty. I had a quick rummage thru the car at 8.30 last night and it does have a cruise control button, and from the research I've done I know the LX model didn't have that. so over the weekend will be looking at finding out for certain what she is.

I am keen to learn more about the RS in general, so I'm sure I'll be on the look out for info from you all. Unlike poor R Yes, I was given a loud warning to stay away from DTS with the supra. So I know Glen and the boys over at ESP. From what I've read, Datman seems to be another person of interest to work on the car. What other people/businesses should I be on the look out for here in cbr? I like to support those that support us, so point me in the right direction! :P

First thing, where is the best place to have the car checked for act rego? I'll be looking to have keyless entry and car alarm done asap, any suggestions there?

anyway, I do hope to meet up with some of you guys soon. always keen to go for a drive, so if anyone wants to go to the cotter or whatever, I'd be interested. besides, gives me a chance to pick some brains when we stop and go over each other's cars!

cheers

Welcome to the club mate, got pics of the mk2?
Mick is definately a guy to hit up for work to be done, for the most part the guys of the ACTRSLC will can do just as a good a job as any of the workshops but without the cost and with a better knowledge of our cars speciaifcally!

Welcome diRtyS.

Really the main ports of call for any RS stuff (or Subaru for that matter) are Glen and guys from ESP, Datman (Mick), cruisEH (Paul), and Bruce at Capital Subaru in Fyshwick..... Subaroo out in Mitchel can sometimes come through aswell.... but not really for anything modified.

Check the "Suggest A Cruise or Event" for a cruise comming in the next few weeks and line up to come and watch the skidpan day on the 15th August.

The ACT group is pretty good and quite welcomming.... some with families and some that just drink to much :) .... just get out and say G'day.... whereabouts are you?

Oh and a very good idea to get an alarm sorted very quickly..... these cars are currently being picked on in the ACT.... even a simple kill switch untill you can get a full alarm/immobiliser aswell...

welcome aboard :)

yeah definitely check the ACT upcoming events stuff, we will be doing a cruise in the next month sometime and a skidpan day as well.

is your car definitely an RS turbo not a GX?

agreed about the workshop stuff - Mick @Techworkz (Datman) for performance upgrades or general maintenance, ESP for dyno or tunes, bruce @ capital subaru in fyshwick for any spare OEM parts, and of course these forums for 2nd hand gear!

Cheers guys. always nice to be welcomed. the ACTSupra boys are all like that too.

I do have pics of the MKII and of the subie. but they aren't online. so how do I get them on here?

thanks for the advice on the businesses. does anyone know if Datman can do ACT rego checks? might as well introduce him to the new car!

i'm on the northside, but work at forrest. always happy to drive around tho if necessary.

i'll check out the events part. I saw the skidpan day.

yeah, as I've said, not sure 100% on what model it is yet. The missus did all the organising and picked her up yesterday. hopefully all will be revealed over the course of this weekend! :tu

cheers

Mick (Datman) doesnt do rego checks.

welcome to the forum. youll meet a bunch of good people here in canberra, some of us longer term mebers dont get about as much as we used to. we were thinking about getting the old crew back together, so might organise an event soon. wish my RS was close to being ready to go back on the road, but it is still on stands :(

anyway, welcome

Datman has however organised rego checks for many members, worth going through him IMO.
