Hi everyone,

Been here reading stuff all year and had never gotten around to introduce myself.

My name's Jase , just turned 35 and live in south east suburbs of Melb.

I have managed to get my hands on a 89 Awd Lib wagon in white for a song. Picked it up cause I had always wanted an awd wagon, but then I discovered it could be converted and a whole new world opened up before me.

I also need a decent project to keep me entertained.

Plans for the wagon are a Ver 7 Sti conversion including complete drive line.

Yes there will be pick along the way.

Oh and please excuse any stupid noob question as I am fairly new to motors but am having a ball learning new stuff every day.

Any advice on things I should look out for or budget for along the way would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks mate.

Really looking forward to it.

Hopefully by mid next year I'll be able to come on some cruises.

Welcome mate. A V7 conversion has many advantages over V1/2/3 conversions (apart from the fact you are sinking many more $$ into an older shell).

Hi yods,

Thanks for the welcome.

Who would be best to talk to regarding conversion issue to a v7.

I have read things like drive shaft needs to be looked at. Just want to go into this without too many surprises.

Thanks

It depends on how much (if any) you plan to do yourself. However I'd start searching over the basic conversion/build threads in tech and members rides to get an appreciation of whats normally involved (Liberty GX AWD just did a V7 -> gen2 conversion which is all but the same).

Some starting points

- R160 or R180 rear diff + shafts (R180 stronger, more work involved and significantly more coin
- FMIC or stock TMIC (stock tmic will need a larger scoop than is stock on RS libs)

Check out MYR58U's build (and demise) ride for some detailed pics/info on an R180 into Gen1

Thanks for that mate.

Ill be going straight to front mount and will also be picking up the rear diff hubs and drive shafts off the cut.

I'll check out those builds as well.
