    Default Its a RS!!

Long time lurker, and i have learnt alot from this group/forum, so i thought i should share my RS to the group and thank you for all the great information kept here.
So here are some pictures of my 1993 Liberty RS Turbo.
    Factory sunroof and ABS model.
I've had it for 5 or 6 years i think. Pictures will tell most of the story.

    When I first bought it.

The plan was to get involved in local hill climbs and lap dashes.
First time out on a set of spare 17" Liberty wheels.

Then the bolt on pieces started to get bolted on.

Some proper track wheels and tyres were required, so i found some 16" WRX wheels and prettied them up.
Fitted up a set of used ADVAN AD08's and sent it.

    Time to go hill climbing.

Time to fix the colour of the lower body kit.

Then some more lap dashes at the local track.

Tyres were shagged by this stage, so bought some Nankang AR1's

Then did some paint correcting after buying the products and learning from youtube.

    New exhaust time

This brings it up to date.
After fitting the new cat back, it seems there is a leak at the dump pipe/turbo gasket.
So i thought i had better upgrade the turbo if im going to be in that area.
Found a used TD05, so ill stick that in when i get around to it.

Aahhh... I thought this RS looked familiar! Great to see the build pics in such short succession!

I need to start learning some of the stuff in the paint department too. Keep up the good work and those lap dashes ;)

    Cheers

Nice mate, love the attention to detail combined with putting it through its paces! How did you get the inside of the rim to come up so well?

Which reminds me, been meaning to make a post on this weird alien goo I found on the inside of mine the other day...

Those wheels took a lot of work.
From memory it was scotch bright, steel wool, degreaser and my finger tips.

I just watched a lot of stuff on youtube regarding the paint correcting (although there is so much info out there it becomes confusing)

So i found some time to fit the TD05H.
Removal of the VF12 revealed the leaking dump pipe gasket, and a leaking up pipe.
Found a second hand X-Force up-pipe to replace the standard one..

I did buy new gaskets and studs for the up pipe, dump pipe/turbo.
Everything all bolted up with no hitches what so ever, except i had to trim the up pipe studs as they got in the way of the dump pipe.

All back together and ready to roll.
Currently on the Liberty 17"s as it had to pass rego the other day.

    Verdict??
Definitely laggier, has more top end to the redline than the old Vf12. Still weighing up if its worth the wait though.

Big improvements i found with TD05 / VF23 or 22 or whatever i had was 16psi, front mount and a decent boost controller, the VF12 worked great with the stock WTAC, stock boost controller and roughly 14psi

Yeah, ive got VOS chip as well, currently running 15-16psi. I'll run with the TD05 for a while, switching back will most likely happen im thinking.

yep the vf23 seems the go best of both worlds keeping that midrange punch with more top end. i had a roll-on in second gear from 60 to 100 with a mate who had a td05 with no vos chip with 16 psi and front mount and was quite surprised i gapped him repeadtly. I still run the waic as well.

a 34 has great response, same as a vf30 but with ball bearing cartridge, has a p18 rear hosing, a 23 has a larger rear housing a p20, but a smaller compressor front wheel. a 23 rear housing will fit on a 34, giving great top end power.
I love my precision 6466 rated at 905hp, u use the gearbox to drive through the lag, the kick in the arse is great you have to change gears very quick otherwise you are bouncing of the rev limiter set @ 8300rpm...

great lookin RS credit to the owner

The td and vf range of turbos are very old technology now days. Best thing I ever did on my car was give my td05 an upgrade. My new Garrett based unit has 60kw more power and kicks in almost 1000rpm sooner. The price almost prevented me from going that path but I've never looked back.

Take your time to find a turbo that will best fits your needs and invest wisely. Things have come along way since our cars where built.

Also. Thanks for this thread. Your efforts are enjoyed i suspect by more people than just me.

you certainly have a neat car, this is my favourite colour,
this colour was my first RS until I punted it through a steel street light ended up looking banana shape.
don't mod it to far as it looks great
keep up the work and keep those photos rolling out..

For those still visiting, here are some pictures of my new wheels.
    Rays Gramlights 57C - 17x7.5 +48 offset.
I been looking for a set of these in the right specs for a while, eventually came across these whilst playing around on Yahoo Auctions.
They took a couple of months to arrive, then waited for the 4 for 3 deal on a set of Bridgestone RE003's. (225/45)
I bought new stickers, then fitted them up.

Very happy with the fitment and look.
