    Default Auto-biography

1992 Subaru Liberty RS Turbo (Australian delivered)

    How it all began...

I purchased the car back in 2001 in Newcastle from Ross Fiddes. Ross was the second owner buying the car from a car dealer in Newcastle. The first owner had only owned the car a few months before trading the car for a 4WD.

The photo below was taken and the day I picked her up, parked at Shortland Esplanade, Newcastle. The car was close to stock, although the heads and pistons had been replaced with WRX items as part of the Subaru warranty, the standard VF12 had been replaced with a TD04 and gearbox had received a rebuild replacing 1st, 2nd and 3rd synchros. I have all the orginal paper work and all receipts.

The white RS below was owned by a friend and was the reason I bought mine.

Since then I've made a few changes...

One of, if not THE nicest vehicles on here...!

    Sooo shiney!

    Makes me want mine back.

Edit: its amazing what a pair of headlight covers does for the front end of the vehicle - so much nicer and together looking.
Subarus are like onions... they have layers... you fix one problem, and it exposes another!

Many times. There's been a few periods when it's just sat in the garage getting no attention. Like everyone, I get annoyed when it's not running right and think about selling it, but I can't decide on want else I want and I don't feel like I've finished with her just yet.

I do enjoy driving it and I like that it's a little different. I get quite a few looks from people. I doubt I'll ever modify another car so this is it.

You've gotta take the award for the most amount of number plates used Naif. Keeping all those crims busy, what a guy you are.

Car looks great still, always likes your sedan, which is weird cause i dont really like sedans (even though i drive one now). Love the white wheels.

Yes...! Unless you have the eyelids back on.

Imo libs should have either or... and eyelids are losing their popularity in my neighbourhood.

Thanks guys. I'm actually quite surprised by the response, for me it's not quite where I'm completely happy with it as it's still not "finished".

I actually prefer the 17s. I think 17s give more of a tough street look, where I think 18s and bigger is more of a bling look.

No it's not. It's the original colour but it was resprayed in June 2006.

It's had 5 different plates and been registered in 3 states since I've owned it.

I actually want to paint the wheels, either dark gunmetal grey or black, can't decide at the moment. I might spray them myself to try out a few colours before getting them professionally painted. Bought them secondhand pretty cheap.

Stereo is not quite in. Amps and subs to go.

Stand sits over the top in the factory mounts. Cover is below.

A guy on one of the forums was selling kits for WRXs a while ago. I sent him a design and he made one for the RS. The sandwich block doesn't fit with the extractors so I'm looking around for one that does. Haven't been looking too hard recently.

In progress. Trying to decide on cams and the engine builder is trying to source suitable valve springs. He reckons it'll end up somewhere up around 300kW atw. I'm not so confident as I was thinking 250kW atw as I don't want to be looking at my watch waiting for it to come on boost. Also need to decide on a turbo. The VF23 is maxed out. On 18psi at the moment. They wound it up to 20 and it wouldn't make any more power... and so close to 200!

Well done Nath, always loved your car.

You should show off the underneath too, remember us QLD boys "ooohing and ahhhing" when you had it up on the hoist at AM's Tech Day??

It's one of the most complete RS's around I reckon, nothing really blingy, top notch gear used and everything has a practical purpose.
    Kudos to you my friend

I have a list and if I get to the end I'll be pretty happy. Problem is I add to the list.

The respray cost a fair bit. They took out ever dent and to do this they took of the doors, boot, bonnet, bumpers and guards.

    And I agree.
