Default RS Turbo Wagon restoration - a work in progress

Havent gotten around to posting up pictures of my "new" daily following the the demise of:

    http://www.rslibertyclub.org/forums/...ad.php?t=66290.

So, we stripped out the White Whale and migrated all the good bits across to the Phoenix.

    Why the Phoenix?

Because it rose from the ashes of the Whale.

So with the help of Raz and Jellis, I purchased this in September 2007:

    Another absolutely stocko RS wagon.

NO head conversion, and would only boost to 4 psi, and still running the original coilpacks.

Took a risk buying it from afar as Jelly said it had a misfire = no surprises there!
Oh, and it also had a noisy gearbag.

Drove it from Sydney to Melbourne with copilot Jaz, and we returned 8.4 l/100 km = gotta love cruise control, eh Jaz?

With the parts out of the old and flambeed Whale stored at Jaz's parents property, we proceeded to migrate all the good bits across to the Phoenix.

This is what she looks like today:

Specs for the Phoenix are as follows:

Been waiting a while to see this up on the club Dave. About time mate. Are you going to keep the 17"s? Or just going to borrow them until the tyres wear down

    J,

I have 2 complete sets of WRX 6 spoke 16s, from which I will select the best 4 rims to be powder coated. I prefer these to 17s as, in my mind anyway, they better suit the car. I'm sure others will have a different opinion - besides the tyres are cheaper!

Havent selected the colour yet, but I do like the titanium colour on the 03 Rexy wheels.

The 17s then go back to Nige to be fitted to his Legacy.

The trim bits I bought off you look "the duck's guts" after I threw out the old stuff and fitted them. Interior photos soon.

    Quick update.

Front guards, bonnet scoop and tailgate spoiler going to painter next week hopefully.

    EJ22T on hold for now.

I plan to fit recoed heads to the original RS block (good compression and no blow by) and I have a lead on some upgraded cams.

My bonus from work will come through early September and I will then get the rest of the painting done!?!

    Another update.

Changed painters and met with the new one today.

Agreed a price (within my budget - w00t!) and week after next:

    Front bumper
    rear bumper off the Pointer
    bonnet scoop and
tailgate spoiler all go in for a lick of paint.

All detachable panels that will be done as an infill job.

Then the car goes in to have the rest of the tailgate, front guards off the Pointer, and rh rear quarter panel done.

    Quick update.

Paint retrieved from previous painter and additional paint purchased.

Parts to be removed this coming week and taken to painter.

Awaiting somewhat reduced size bonus from work and then the balance will be done.

Meantime, I'll start work on the side skirts, wiper blades and area behind the front bumper

ABS kit to be installed at Christmas when heads are replaced. Removing ABS from BJMs spare shell this coming weekend.

Wifey drives the car and has no idea about threshhold braking.

Besides, I plan to make it switchable = OFF for dirt, ON for road/wife use!

Anyway, alarm install was sooooo bad, all underdash stuff needs to be redone anyway.

    No drama

    Much appreciated mate.

I'll let you know after I do some investigation.

The ABS I have now is from Brent's AWD GX.

Includes 2 distinct wiring looms = forward loom to connect up ABS block, G sensor ahead of firewall and the loom that includes the underseat computer, plus hubs, sensors and all the pipework.

Default A painting we will go!!!

With thanks to pritchy, I have now installed a temporary front bumper on the wags so mine can go to the painter this week.

    So, for painting are:

    front bumper
    rear bumper (off White Whale)
    bonnet scoop
    tailgate spoiler
both front guards (off White Whale)

    Second installment will be:

    tailgate
    rh rear panel
    lower half rh rear door.

Then a good claybar of the original painted surfaces to see how close a match the new paint is. Followed by a cut and polish.

BTW, I actually have enough paint to do the whole car which is what will happen eventually.

New stickers and stand back and admire!!!

So, today I picked up the front and rear bumpers, bonnet scoop and tailgate spoiler and fitted them up.

Also fitted the rear bumper protector that I won on trademe some 18 months ago for NZD20.

I have to say it "Farque it looks good"

Heaps of painting still to be done, front guards to be fitted etc, but I can now see the potential.

Still tossing up what colour to do the wheels.

Ethan, is that offer still open?

    Piccies tomoz.
