    Default Sprint/Tarmac rally Daihatsu Charade GTti project

    Well since it seems everyone else on daihard has a project I thought I would and mine.

    The Story goes something like this.

    Along long time ago (March 2006) a little blue GTti appeard on Diahard once owned By Rallyspeed2 (Matt).

    I was very intrested as at the time I had a genuine GTti that I wanted to build into a track car. The little blue GTti had had a resonable life as a rally car so I thought sell the GTti by the little blue car give it a coat of paint and away i go racing.
    Great Idea in theory. after purchasing the blue car and seeling everything i owned I was on my way. I organised the Beers + mates to get started. well once we had sanded throuhgt the first 5mm of Body filler in the roof. the project begain.

    Welcome to Project 993

    First step was to strip down the little blue car to its undies (I even cut the roof of to get the cage out, what a bad idea :!: )



    Next step was to find a new shell - a Aus Deliverd black 1990.

    once I had the new shell I organised FabRaication to build a new 6pt weld in cage



    I also managed to get a set of genuine GTti side skirts form NZ and the Blue car never had them !

    next step was to organise the painting and parts

    A friend of mine has repainted the shell inside and out inc cage in FORD spectrum Black.

    I then organised all parts which goe something like this.

    Engine
    No. 1 CB70 internal work unknown but was advertised to have DRS cams ECT - I belive to be stock
    2 x stock GTti turbos
    Motec M4 ECU
    cutstom dump pipe
    Ford XF falcon fuel pimp fitted in tank with braided line run inside car


    No 2. CB70 blown up fitted with 4agze throttle Body
    4agze injectors
    custom exhaust manifold for T28 turbo and 32mm external wate gate.



    Suspension
    Proflex coilovers (rebuilt by critical dampining)
    rear control arms plated and braced.
    27mm front strut brace
    power steering

    new parts
    superbro ply bush kit
    Notlec G200 rear soild dtrut tops (camber and caster)
    Driven performance Front strut tops solid - both tops need to be modded to fit coilovers
    whiteline 20mm rear swaybar - they dont make any larger any more

    Gearbox
    Ivan Albins close ratio rally box
    Kg eengineering shim type LSD, got a bag of shims (these guys where mini specilsts no longer exist)
    4.9 or 5.1 final drive

    Brakes
    brake line run through car
    hydalic and merchanical hand brake
    Applause rear hubs and disks
    vented and slotted g200 rotors
    GSL supplied QFM Pads all round

    WRX 4 pots and rotors with custom alloy hats being worked on ATM will take pics

    Body
    1990 cb23 Aus shell (black)
    6pt cage
    stripped interior
    velo seats
    spacro wheel
    MRT BOOST CONTROL TMS-3


    Wheels
    14 inch White Detoms x 8
    15 inch white csa

    - may need to upgrade to 16 for 4 pots ?

    Well a little update, Heading up to Race-Brakes in Melbourne on the weekend to get my brake upgrade worked-out.

    looks like I can use WRX DBA 5000 rotors with custom alloy hats and 1997+ WRX 4 pot rotors with custom mounting brakets. (well that's the plan)

    There is only 1 problem I can see and thats the need to upgrade to 16 inch wheels (no biggy)

    so I am getting race brakes in melb to machine me up a set of hats to mount the rotors to the charade hubs

    Then using WRX 4 pot calipers with custom mounting brackets.

    this way I only ever need to by the rotors and they will always fit

    Well I had my vist to race Brakes in Melb, they are a great place and i learned a heap from them. It was very intresting as one of the emplyees Know Bob Nicoli quite well and had pics of his works cars and I showed him mine and he thinks mine was bob built.

    anyway back to the brakes. I have good news and bad.

    Bad is WRX calipers are not going to fit with out major mods to the Knuckle
    Good though is rotors are easy to make alloy hats and guess what, early volvo 164 35mm 4 post look like they may work only need a braket. should have an idea this week when the machinist has had a better look.

    The reason for early Volvo is that they will have very close to the same fluid area as the sliding 2 pots so no need to upgrade master cylinder.

    and they should fit behind my 15's yeah !

    well my cooler showed up today and looks the goods,





    I removed the factory cooler rad-support upright and radiator fan.

    all that will need to be made up is some mounts for radiator to move it over slightly

    rear mount my spare fan rotate the comp cover and make some pipe

    Well Been a while Have not done much to the car as I have been saving and spening money on other things

    Final I have my Suspension and brakes sorted.

    Today I just organised my new tyres

    I have orded Toyo R888 in 195/50/16

    I am streching htese on 7" rims to try and get some more guard clearence.


    Also I pick it up form the Auot elec's on tuesday (Melbourne cup) and take to get finally finishing touches done

    1. they weren’t bound and re-bound adjustable and where gravel spec (to long to get low enough)

    2. and they were stuffed
