Default What Have You Spent - Honestly??

    Hi All,

I sat down and added up what my RS owe's me tonight as the car is starting to give me the s*its as it's not running right, I nearly had a heart attack when I got the total.

I've done this as selling the car has seriously crossed my mind as I've nearly had enough......

    ∑ CAR PRICE $12000.00
    ∑ BRAKES $ 2130.00
    ∑ PAINTING $ 700.00

I should clarify that actually, this included :-

    . Sard Fuel Reg
    . Doing Parallel rails
    . Front bumper lip
    . New power steer pump
    . Replacing all vacumn lines
    . Bosch coil conversion

And other stuff I cant remember.

If I sell the car it's getting stripped and sold as stock, try to recoup some money....

    Way too freakin much

    5200 - Genuine 1992 RS wagon (330,000ks)
    1200 - stereo
    3000 - EJ257
    1000 - forged pistons
    1000 - STi clutch
1100 - WRX heads (brand new and some port work)
    600 - 650cc injectors
    200 - Walbro fuel pump
    800 - Power FC
    200 - EBC front discs
    400 - Wilwood Superlight 4 pots
    400 - Wilwood Ultralight 4 pots
    650 - Brembo 4 pots
    650 - GT30R turbo
    850 - AVO 450 turbo
    650 - GT35R (copy) turbo
    650 - 3" SS exhaust
    1200 - Buddy Club Coilovers
    600 - GEX Coilovers
2000 - ROH Modena 18" wheels and tyres
    1300 - Prodrive 18" wheels
    350 - window tint
150 - towbar (don't laugh - need it to tow the jet boat )
3500 - straight cut dog box
3300 - DCCD box with controller
    120 - alternator
    120 - radiator
    400 - recond Legacy heads
3100 - STi RA front cut (another DCCD and controller incl )
    450 - SS extractors
500 - gaskets and seals etc for EJ257
650 - diff, shafts, hubs and brakes from 05 Forester Turbo
    650 - 50hp Nitrous kit
and probably 1000 on other sundry items.

Now almost all of this was bought on eBay or this forum so they are nowhere near retail prices and they are all still sitting in my garage waiting for the big transformation so I am actually still driving a std RS but the total stands at just over :

    $40,000.00

    OOOOOOOOOPS

But I will have 2 turbos, 3 gearboxes, coilovers, a good RS engine, RS diff, 1 set of wheels & 2 sets of calipers etc etc for sale afterwards and hopefully get about $20k back.

So about $20k for what will hopefully be a low 12 sec car is not too bad.

Its not hard to spend heaps without realising until after you finish.
I spent around $80,000 all up including purchase price of $24,000 back in 1996.
if I did it all again, I could build the identical car for under $50,000 as you learn what not to waste money on.(bear in mind I do the majority of labour)

My new drag car has a target all up cost of $20,000.

Lets see how close I get.

too scary to contemplate really. lets see

$7K for the car back in 03
    $1.6 K for the GX 2.2 98 model motor
$1.2 K on the front cut
    $500 on sundries
    $1K on the VTD box
    $1K on the wheels
    $1K on suspension
$1.8 K on WRX half cut for gearbox, turbo and ecu
    $150 on a vf8 that exploded
    $900 for exhaust
    $400 for FMIC and piping
$1200 for a V4 STI gearbox to go in soon
$500 for RS rear bar and garnish, diff and other bits
    $150 for RS front bar

    all up

    $18400

not as bad as i thought actually, but more than id like. take a grand or so off that figure for the 4.11 5 speed and diff ill have for sale in a few weeks, and its back to looking half respectable...

    car $7,400 - damaged
parts inc tow bar & repairs & roadworthy $4,000
front cut with rear end, wheels , bonnet, tail shaft etc $6,000
conversion with clutch & oils $3,500
    zorst, $1,750
    walbro, $180
    boost guage, $28
shift light, $75, not in yet
NOS kit $700, in but not used yet
    brass & copper radiator, $620
    rear sway bar, $100
    blown head gasket repair, $1,200
rear window with wiper inc. fitting & tint, $300
So I've spent $25,850 roughly in total
    .......................................BUT........ ..................................

Minus $3,000 worth of bits left over from conversion that I've sold

I also decided when I bought it, to buy & fix up & sell some cars so it owed me less, plus the sale of my old Landcruiser = to trade in
    Landcruiser $6,500
    & so far "profits" are
    94 Impreza gx, $4,000
    92 Liberty gx, $2,750
    98 Impreza WRX lookalike, $6,000

So minus $22,250 from sales & profit, it owes me a grand total of $3,600.

But at least another $20,000 profit to come from 3 other cars

    .........SO...........

I've got a fast, economical, comfortable 13ish sec freak which has, VF23, 4 Pots, 4.44 gearing, alloy swing arms, NOS, rear wiper etc etc, virtually free, not too shabby eh?

    wow you guys scare me.

    92 Rs - 7750
    SDS - 250
    Jason's intake pipe - 50
    General rubbish - 200

    8250, and i haven't even really started.

The cheapest looking option so far is to wait for a rediculously cheap front cut like pd rs ra picked up off ebay for a conversion. Then a bit paint here, couple wheels there (ok make it 4). Bit of stereo here. Bit of suspension there. And i will have waved goodbye to about 20k

Bought car for $17000 in 2000, (gen2 AWD manual GX sedan). Spent $400 in 01 for a set of MY00 WRX rims which are still on it. other than wear and tear items I spent nothing on it until january 06.
I got a trade in wholesale value on it late last year when I was going to trade it for a B4.
Changeover I considered to be too much, so all up in my conversion to do absolutley everything to get it where it is today has cost me $5260.

you are forgeting one thing all these parts are not nersesitys, they are performance modifications. would it be any cheaper to do this to any other turbo car? no! if you had spent all that money on just getting the standed car to run right the be pissed off and ready to sell up, you have just entered the lovely world of turbo modifications.

had subaru wrx hi performance valve body for auto transmission about $600.00

then done left and right drive shift and had paid $700.00 which i got ripped off by subaru in mornington.

then 7 months later right hand drive shift went, cost $169.00
then had a major oil leak which we didn't know where it was caming from started from pully seals and then had to get a new radiator $375.00
    total $710.00
and then more oil leaks ,so it was the the rocker cover and gaskets$163.90
    dosn't stop there!
then done the diff and the transmission so got a reco transmission and diff for $2,000.00
and found out today i have done a left drive shift which i know about, soooo a another $169.00 this is only in two months

    total at the monment $1450.90

there more but only little things didn't want to bored u's all.
