Default Wisdom Teeth.... Buggers of things!

Is it just me, or is it a fashionable thing to get your wisdom teeth out these days?! Seems like everyone is doing it now. I just had mine done this morning, and thank goodness that only has to happen once!

Have to admit, no where near as painful as I thought it would be, so for those of you out there getting it done, pi55 easy!

mine have been coming down for the past 5 years. 3 are all the way down. the other one i think will come nicely when its ready. no pain yet...from them. I do however have another tooth that is growing behind a baby tooth which is the 3rd one across from the centre on the top. It hurts **** loads...I gotta get braces and get the baby one removed. I am getting braces on the back cos I am 24 and a 25 yr old with braces just looks stoopid There goes $5k of my engine building budget

All of my wisdom teeth have been slowly coming down the last few years, but thankfully they all fit so i dont have to do anything about them.

I didn't get my wisdom teeth out, I got the 4 back teeth out to accomodate for the wisdom teeth coming through because they never would have fit. My mum drove me out there (didn't want to drive back high). My mum and the dentist got carried away chatting for ages, meanwhile I'm hyperventilating with the happy gas on. I was a messs, I didn't even realise the teeth came out and the dentist was getting angry because I would keep my mouth open .

my bottom left was the worst...
was growing kinda sideways so dentist had to remove a small piece of my jaw bone to get it out...
felt that a bit the next day when the drugs wore off...

Hey naif, make sure you clean that back one as well as possible, as when they retract back into the gum they can take bacteria with them and cause an infection. And that isn't fun.

I hate teeth in general. I got 5 front ones knocked out by some f_cking idiot at a party on new years eve 3 years ago. Didn't even see him coming. Ongoing dentist trips is a pain in the ass...

best thing to do is wait for them all to push through, halves the cost of getting them pulled and halves the pain as well later on. ive got one 3/4 through, and one pushing through, no sign of the other 2 yet.

They don't get removed for no reason. Many people's wisdom teeth won't come through properly and will result in far more pain than the operation. If they come in wrong they can effect other teeth in your mouth because they will all try to cramp together.

Ahh, the joys of working in an operating theatre, I get to see some interesting things...

With wisdom teeth - If they're not bothering you, leave them be. If they are, get 'em out!

I must reccomend that If you have the opportunity to get them out under a general anaesthetic, (ie in hospital) then go for it. (thats if the waiting lists aren't too bad...or you are deemed a medical emergency when your whole jaw/face is infected...) If you're having them done in the chair, ask for a script for adequate pain relief (no, panadol/panadeine isn't adequate!)

I've seen teeth grow in all sorts of directions. One time, I saw this poor bugger who had his canine teeth (the sharp pointy ones in yer mouth) grow literally upwards into his nasal cavity...

I had a good look at my x-ray, the bottom 2 were growing forwards, as in they were following my jaw line, just never wanted to straighten up and come out, so I think you have the same problem Billsy. Had an infection about 4 months back, then it happened again just before Christmas... Not much fun let me tell you, so if you think you need 'em out, do it!

Billsy, let me just say that Panadeine Forte is my new friend! You'll love it! Ahhhhhhhhhhh

Yeh +1 for going under. General anaesthetic for the win. You'll be dribbling blood for a day or so Billsy but it's more of an inconvenience than super painful. Panadeine forte for the win.

My surgeon did about four wisdom teeth removals at the same time so we were all sitting in the recovery room trying to eat our jelly and ice-cream so we could get the hell out of there. Dribbling everywhere. Musta looked hilarious.

I had all four removed 2 years ago, Hospital job. The Dentist that did the job told me they had to hack out a section of my top left rear gum because the wisdom tooth was growing 45 degrees down and outward. It was all sweet until the nurse gave me a lemonade with a straw - now that was a messy experience.

I'm annoyed they didn't let me take them home in a plastic jar. :p

well here i am post op, surfing the forums on my Xda from the comfy hospital bed. had all 4 wisdom teeth pulled and the airway in my nose cleared . i had jelly and cutsard for dinner, with a side shot of morphene to kill the pain, its so far been good with little swelling and no bruising showing yet after 12 hrs.

Half a bottle whiskey ,a set of multi grips and a competent mate gets them out ,just dont snap the tooth..$140 for the dentist to remove $200 for them to remove the roots after its snapped off....

i was in overnight for the nose job and the related injections that were given every few hours for 24 hours.
the wisdoms havent even swollen up and basically no pain with them at all.
even started solid food again already.

as far as teeth go, get a good surgeon and its relatively painless... in my case
